As Yin Zhu slowly recounted her story, the receptionist suddenly turned his head and glanced at the security camera.
The next second, a call came to the front desk.
He turned around and went back to the front desk. After saying a few words on the phone, he bowed deeply to Yin Zhu and said, "The manager hopes you can go to the thirteenth floor. There are some things he wants to tell you in person."
"If I go, can I extend my stay by one day?"
"It's possible for you to pay extra."
“…Okay.” Although she really wanted to say “I’m not going,” Yin Zhu still agreed without any backbone.
An administrator who gives new citizens three days to adapt to the environment is unlikely to have much malice towards humans. If the rules are strictly followed, nothing will happen. If they are not followed, it's up to each individual to decide what to do, and it's not necessarily a dead end.
From any perspective, this manager should not be in danger.
The only strange thing was the thirteenth floor; Yin Zhu remembered that the rules initially stated that tenants should not go up there.
In response, she asked an additional question: "Would it be a disturbance if I went to the thirteenth floor?"
"You are the guest the manager wants to see, and no one will make things difficult for you in the temporary apartment." Although her expression still had that formulaic smile, Yin Zhu could sense a hint of respect in it.
Back in the elevator, Yin Zhu this time directly selected the thirteenth floor.
The elevator stopped briefly on the sixth floor. A man with an upright demeanor entered the elevator and was about to press the button for the twelfth floor when he suddenly paused. He glanced at Yin Zhu with a slightly nervous expression, then hurriedly pressed the button for the twelfth floor and stood aside, trying to get away from Yin Zhu.
4. This apartment building does not have a 13th floor, and the elevator does not have a button for the 13th floor. Please do not attempt to go there.
If you encounter someone going to the thirteenth floor in the elevator, please do not speak to them or inform the temporary apartment staff.
The rules were indeed described in a mysterious and cryptic way, probably because he had imagined some terrifying things, or even thought that Yin Zhu was a monster. However, we still don't know exactly what he was thinking.
Yin Zhu ignored the man, only feeling that she vaguely remembered him.
The man nervously made the sign of the cross, seemingly a follower of a well-known religious sect. Coupled with his previously upright expression, he could easily have been mistaken for a priest spreading love and peace. But in Sin City, good people don't receive messages, so his normalcy was the most peculiar thing.
Upon reaching the twelfth floor, the man hurriedly left.
Looking at his back, Yin Zhu suddenly remembered that this man's code name seemed to be "Sheng Hui". The reason she remembered him was because he was the first one to finish filling out the form when they were filling out forms in the office building.
And what he filled in for the crime was "none".
"bite."
The elevator reached the thirteenth floor, interrupting Yin Zhu's thoughts. The layout of the thirteenth floor was different from the other floors; it was more luxurious and comfortable, seemingly originally prepared for the wealthy.
A waiter who looked exactly like the receptionist on the first floor was standing at the elevator entrance. He wore a black vest and a white shirt and extended his hand to Yin Zhu: "Please come with me. The manager wants to see you."
Yin Zhu glanced at his white gloves, but instead of touching him, she put her hands in her pockets and said, "Let's go."
The waiter didn't say much, and quickly led Yin Zhu to a room door, knocking lightly twice: "Manager, your guest has arrived."
"Come in, the door's unlocked."
The waiter opened the door for Yin Zhu and then stood respectfully to one side.
Inside the room was a desk, next to which was a glass-fronted bookcase with a view of its contents. If Yin Zhu had ever been to a property management office, she would have noticed that the layout here was exactly the same. However, since she had never been to a property management office before, Yin Zhu made no comment on it. She simply walked into the room calmly and greeted them politely, "You must be the manager. I've heard so much about you."
A strong man sat behind the desk, making him seem more suited to be a fitness instructor at a gym than an office worker.
The man smiled and pointed to the sofa next to him: "Sit down. I didn't know what you like to drink, so I only prepared herbal tea."
"It's okay, I like it very much."
She picked up the cup, touched it to her lips as if she had drunk from it, and went straight to the point: "I wonder what you want to talk to me about?"
“What are you talking about… I’d rather say welcome to Sin City.” The supervisor smiled and quickly took control of the conversation: “You are the fifth new citizen to be invited to the thirteenth floor in the past ten years, and of the previous four, three have become supervisors in different areas of Sin City.”
"And the fourth one?"
"He seems to have died somewhere, but who knows? In Sin City, everyone tries to finish off their share of the food."
Yin Zhu toyed with the teacup in her hand: "So you have high expectations of me too?"
"Three days free, let's make a good connection." The manager pointed to the map in Yin Zhu's hand. "That map is a record I made when I explored Sin City back then. Some of the information in it may be outdated, so you need to be careful when you look at it."
"Is this Sin City a place where warlords rule?"
"I guess so."
Does Sin City have a city lord?
“There is one, but I don’t know his location. Perhaps you’ll have to ask the other supervisors. However…” the supervisor of the temporary apartment drew out his words, “that city lord seems to have lived for a very long time.”
"How so?" Yin Zhu asked, intrigued and ready to hear the story.
However, the supervisor had no intention of telling her a story, but simply gave a brief introduction: "Sin City appeared fifty years ago, and I have been in Sin City for twenty years now. When I last saw him, he still did not look old."
