Chapter 416 Dormitory Horror

Alice didn't hold back much with her roommates; she told them everything she could.

What couldn't be said, he naturally didn't say a word about.

After all, if she even knew about the parts outside the virtual world, that would be too much of a God's-eye view. Alice knew very well that Mary was an ambitious but also prone to overthinking little girl, and if she said too much, Mary might scare herself to death.

Watching Mary and Chengzhu digest the explosive information, Alice poured herself another drink.

The virtual world is incredibly realistic; if you drink too much water, you'll inevitably need to urinate. Back when Alice played simulation games on Earth, she found these overly detailed game mechanics annoying, adding a lot of trouble for players. Games with mood, fatigue, and fun stats were especially frustrating. Playing the same game for extended periods to improve mood would even slow down the rate of mood stat increases as the game became less engaging…

The more complex the data and information in a game, and the closer it is to reality, the higher the barrier to achieving a good ending becomes.

The virtual smart city is like a large game. If you drink too much water, you will really feel your bladder is sore; if you fall down, you will really feel a stinging pain in your injured area; if you don't replenish your nutrition for a long time, you will really feel so hungry that you feel dizzy.

Therefore, Alice especially likes the study space.

Here, no matter how much greasy, sweet carb bomb you eat or how many delicious drinks you drink, you don't need to worry about metabolism. This is a low-end version of a virtual smart city; it can only simulate some of the five senses, but it doesn't simulate or record actual changes in human data.

After discussing the specifics of tomorrow's operation and what might happen, the three left the study space to do as they pleased.

Cheng Zhu was about to go downstairs to get some snacks when she arrived at the kitchen and was about to open the refrigerator when a series of piercing alarm sounds emanated from her body, or more precisely, from the back of her hand.

Then, Ya appeared before Cheng Zhu and read out the rules expressionlessly:

17. The refrigerators in the student dormitories will be unusable. Do not consume any food or drinks found in the refrigerators. If you find food or drinks growing in your dormitory refrigerator, please throw them in the trash can. The dormitory manager will clean them up.

I almost forgot about this rule.

Cheng Zhu withdrew her hand, abandoning the action of opening the refrigerator. The prerequisite for "food growing" in the refrigerator is "discovery," and without opening it, and without X-ray vision, she simply couldn't discover whether food had grown in the refrigerator.

The dormitories at Slote High School are very high-tech; the lights automatically turn on wherever a person goes and automatically turn off when the person leaves.

As I passed through the living room, the lights in both the living room and the entryway naturally turned on.

Cheng Zhu paused for a second, then suddenly lowered his head and slowly moved his feet, trying to return to his bedroom on the second floor.

8. The dormitory is monitored by the dormitory building's AI system. When someone is present in the five common areas—kitchen, dining room, living room, entrance hall, and bathroom—the lights in that area will automatically turn on; when everyone leaves the room, the lights will automatically turn off. If you notice the lights in a common area are on but no one is there, please quickly look down and stare intently at the ground, then slowly move back to your room on the second floor.

In other words, when Cheng Zhu arrives in the living room, the entryway light will not be on!

Although he didn't know why the rules emphasized that students should "move slowly," Cheng Zhu knew that following the rules was the right thing to do, so he could only try to minimize his presence.

As Cheng Zhu, head bowed, moved to the top of the stairs, she suddenly felt liquid dripping from the ceiling onto her neck. She held her breath, reminding herself not to look up no matter what noise she heard, and to stay calm.

"Christine? Why are you moving as slowly as a tortoise?"

Alice's voice suddenly rang out from upstairs, followed by a series of footsteps coming down the stairs, seemingly heading towards Cheng Zhu's direction.

Cheng Zhu quickly pulled up Alice's message box and sent her a message: "Don't come any closer!"

The other party replied quickly, seemingly unaffected by the text message: "?" The next message from Alice was even clearer to Cheng Zhu, indicating that the voice coming downstairs might not have been Alice, making Cheng Zhu's hair stand on end: "What happened to you? I'm in the bedroom, I didn't go over there."

If Alice didn't come over, then who came downstairs?

Before Cheng Zhu could figure it out, the voice was already beside him. At the same time, Alice's third message arrived:

"[6. If you see anything in the dormitory's common areas that doesn't belong to the dormitory, please pretend you didn't see it. If a strange creature appears in that scene and tries to attack you, please believe that it poses no threat to you, and minimize your fear; this might save your life.]"

This is the sixth rule of the dormitory.

Although she didn't know what had happened to Chengzhu, Alice could figure it out even if she were scratching her toes—it must have been a ghost encounter.

The strange occurrence in the dorm, instead of asking for help, led her to distance herself, which most likely meant she was experiencing hallucinations. Therefore, she should be reminded not to take it too seriously. Alice promptly sent over the dorm rules, unsure if it would be too late.

Upon receiving the message, Cheng Zhu immediately lowered his head and continued to stare intently at the ground as he climbed up the steps one by one.

Tick-tock.

Another drop of liquid fell, but this time it landed on the stairs next to Chengzhu, making a clear sound of water.

Cheng Zhu slowly moved up to the second floor, and the monster that walked up to her didn't do anything. Seeing that the distance wasn't far, Cheng Zhu rushed towards her bedroom. Hearing the "tap tap tap" of something approaching her from behind, Cheng Zhu's heart pounded faster and faster, but after her personal information was swiped on the bedroom door, it opened very slowly.
