This is the unspeakable fifty-seventh year since I left Earth.
Steaming white vapor rose from the teacup, the green tea leaves lying quietly at the bottom. Beside the tea table, an elderly man with white hair reclined lazily in a cushioned armchair, gazing at the developed city outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, his cane casually resting on the table, within easy reach.
The old man suddenly sighed with emotion: "If Yin Zhu were still on Earth..."
"Given her personality, she'll probably find a deserted place to live in seclusion. After all, people are still going to read her unfinished novel. I recently saw someone online asking, 'Was this really written by the legendary hero of China? The writing style is like that of an elementary school student.' If she knew, she'd probably dig a Forbidden City out of the ground with her toes, haha... She didn't even try to hide it when she wrote it. Her classmates exposed it all after the selection process. You can't blame the think tank for not keeping it a secret for her."
Another elderly woman with faded hair walked in from behind her and took the liberty of sitting down in the chair next to her: "Please sit down, you don't mind, do you?"
"It's alright." The old man smiled, his wrinkles becoming even more pronounced. "What brings you to visit this old man?"
"The research institute has finally made a new breakthrough, regarding the unspeakable matter." The old man smiled and poured himself a cup of tea. "You're not an old man, you're a hundred years old. In the past, that would have been considered a long life, and we should have erected a monument to honor you."
"You guys... cough cough cough..."
The old man laughed so hard that he couldn't help but cough, which made the other person stand up quickly. Two young people also came anxiously into the room.
She waved her hand, indicating to the young man that it was alright, then looked up at the visitor: "Xiao Zhang, in the blink of an eye, you've grown old too. In another hundred years, when all the insiders are dead, the strange tales and unspeakable things will probably become just legends... Has the research institute made any breakthroughs?"
The person who arrived was Zhang Baye.
The white-haired elder she visited was none other than Ms. Anzhi, who had led the think tank of the Dragon Kingdom back then.
Over the decades, countries have actively developed science and technology, restored the environment of Earth, taken in refugees who survived in restricted zones and took the opportunity to annex land. The world order has changed to some extent, but overall it remains peaceful.
The nations that continuously cleared borders in the past all saw a significant increase in their national fortune. Although this intangible phenomenon was invisible and intangible, it quickly became apparent in the new generation. The probability of highly intelligent children among this new generation increased significantly, while the probability of children with congenital diseases decreased dramatically. Coupled with new discoveries of resources, Earth finally had hope of reaching the edge of the world.
If the live stream recording hadn't been mysteriously damaged with the unspeakable departure, many people on Earth would have suspected that simply watching the recording could have enabled Earth's technology to achieve a great leap forward.
In the past, humanity dreamed of climbing the world's highest peaks, diving into the deepest oceans of the planet, and flying into outer space to search for other planets with life. Today, humanity dreams of breaking down the unspeakable barrier between itself and humanity, and narrowing the gap between the two.
Any seemingly unattainable goal challenges the limits of human capability.
In the pursuit of this goal, humanity's technology in all aspects has also been developing continuously. Fourteen years later, the research institute of the United States of America first touched upon the existence of "rules." This once filled Earth with both fear and elation—fear that humanity might use the rules to harm its own kind, and joy that humanity might have the power to protect itself when faced with such a situation again. However, this was like a fleeting dream; for more than twenty years there was no further progress, and any subsequent discoveries were extremely faint.
Anzhi had heard the claim that "the research institute has made a new breakthrough about the unspeakable" far too many times, and was already immune to this news.
It's good to have it, but it's okay if you don't.
After all, the unspeakable is like a nightmare for Blue Star. If they never meet again, it would be a good thing. But if Blue Star accidentally brings the unspeakable back, it won't even have a chance to regret it.
In the first decade or so after the Unspeakable left, Blue Star was extremely enthusiastic about the research on the Unspeakable; however, enthusiasm fades with time.
Some people began to strongly oppose research on the unspeakable, arguing that Earth had finally driven away the behemoth, and continuing the research would only bring about another catastrophe. They believed that the funds for research on the unspeakable should be used to give more money to the people. This quickly led to the emergence of related cult organizations that claimed the unspeakable was a punishment from heaven for humanity's attempt to offend the gods.
If the emergence of the strange rules has brought any major change to Earth, it is probably in the fight against cults.
Back then, all sorts of cults were invaded by the "Death Blue Cult." The nations of Blue Star spent a great deal of effort and energy to "clean up the house" and create a favorable public opinion environment for the Chosen Ones. Now, seeing the resurgence of these cults among the people, the authorities decisively took action and subdued them completely.
As time went on, the research made no progress, and countries began to realize that their concerns were unfounded.
After all, how could something that directly reduces dimensionality be so easily understood by humankind? So, several decades passed in the blink of an eye. An Zhidu retired, and the original think tank of the Dragon Kingdom also entered old age. Humanity's understanding of the rules remained extremely limited.
However, this time, the news brought by Zhang Baye was genuine progress.
"The research institute contacted the Unspeakable and got two sentences from Yin Zhu." Recalling what he knew, Zhang Baye felt a little dumbfounded.
*Smack*
An Zhi was so shocked and excited that her hand trembled, and the teacup accidentally fell from her hand, hitting the carpet and rolling a few times before coming to a stop.
