Bai Sang nodded.
"Then I'll be going now."
She took a few steps, turned around, and looked at the dog-headed man nestled beside the man.
The dog-headed man, taller and stronger than the thin man, leaned against his master with a satisfied expression.
The man stared intently at a sliver of light shining from somewhere, his eyes filled with a maddening intensity.
As we stepped out of the tunnel, it was already getting dark.
Bai Sang hadn't gone far when the kobold chased after him from behind.
"Here, so people won't smell that you've been underground."
The dog-headed man handed over a brocade pouch.
Bai Sang stuffed into her pocket.
"Thank you. Do you have any other companions?"
The dog-headed man had a sad look in his eyes.
“Something was wrong at the manor during that time. My companions all died trying to protect their master.”
Bai Sang was silent for a moment, then said, "I'm sorry."
The kobold twitched its ears.
"It's alright. I'm usually the most useless one, but I didn't expect to survive. I just secretly protected my master. As long as my master is alright, that's all that matters."
Bai Sang suddenly raised his hand, squeezed the kobold's paw, and handed him a bag of dog food.
"You didn't eat much today, did you?"
The dog-headed man grinned, took the dog food, and ran off.
They give all their food to their owner, so surely they shouldn't give them dog food too.
When I saw the mermaid again, she had returned to her carefree self, splashing water and humming an unknown tune.
"We meet again."
Is there anything you want to ask me today?
Bai Sang went inside and found an empty chair to sit down.
"I don't want to ask anymore, I just wanted to come and see you today."
The mermaid laughed happily.
"These past two days have been the happiest two days for me since the incident at the farm, at least you've been there to talk to me."
Bai Sang looked exhausted.
"I also feel happier here with you; it's so tiring outside."
The mermaid lay on the glass, looking at Bai Sang.
"Then stay and be with me."
“I used to envy the days when all these machines were shut down, but now that they’re all shut down, I feel bored.”
Bai Sang didn't speak, but just quietly watched the mermaid.
She looks like a content, protected, carefree little girl.
Emptiness, boredom, naivety, and a longing for contact with others.
They are the best prey in the eyes of evil people.
