Chapter 21 Mountain God?

We must be extra careful, otherwise even a small action could cost us our lives!

Back in his room, Jiang Ran felt like someone was watching him.

He turned around abruptly, and there was a staff member standing right behind him!

Based on the reasoning, the rats are the staff members. So, in my current state, would the staff members attack me like rats?

"Sir, I'm just here on routine to check the rooms. I hope I haven't bothered you."

The answer is no.

The staff member simply nodded slightly in apology and then walked towards the room door.

"Sir, if you are injured, please disinfect it as soon as possible."

He pushed open the door and walked out of the room, even grabbing the rat by the door to prevent it from rushing into the room and harming Jiang Ran.

As Jiang Ran sat on the bed disinfecting, he pondered the events that had just transpired. He had witnessed the staff member turn into a rat without a doubt, which meant there must be some connection between the staff member and the rat, but their behaviors were completely different.

I think I've been "infected" in some way. If I don't disinfect myself in time, I'm afraid I'll undergo an irreversible transformation. Let's just call myself an infected person for now.

Rats attack infected people, but staff do not.

This is very important information. It shows that the staff were intentionally trying to protect them. So, if they accidentally get infected again and encounter rats before they can disinfect themselves, calling the staff might be a better option.

There's not much liquor left; it looks like I'll have to go to the lobby to get two more bottles later.

Jiang Ran re-examined all the rules. He still had a scroll in his hand, so which rule should he verify to find the most cost-effective option?

Just then, Lin Changqing used his first prompt opportunity!

Let's rewind two minutes.

While Jiang Ran and Weipus were still dealing with the staff, Smir from the White Eagle Kingdom had basically explored the entire inn. To his surprise, he discovered a brightly colored parrot!

Rule Fifteen: If you see a flying parrot in the inn, follow it closely; the parrot will lead you to something crucial.

The parrot in front of him must be an important clue. After noticing Smirre's gaze, the parrot flapped its wings and flew in another direction. Smirre quickly followed!

Soon, the parrot flew around the hall and into a door, and Smirre followed closely behind!

The parrot perched on the metal frame, preening its feathers.

"It stopped? Does that mean there's an important clue in this room?"

Smir looked around. The metal shelves were filled with cardboard boxes. He opened one of the boxes, which was full of bread.

On the other side were several large boxes of mineral water stacked up. Even if Smir was slow to realize, he should have realized that this was a warehouse!

"The point isn't the food. Is there anything else here?" Smirnoff squinted at the parrot, trying to glean something from the silly bird. Clearly, the parrot wasn't interested in him.

"Come here, little parrot, come to your uncle and tell him what's special about this place!"

The parrot rolled its eyes at him, and then actually spoke!

"Would you be willing to follow the guidance of the mountain god?"

? ? ?

Several question marks appeared above Smir's head. He couldn't understand what the parrot meant at all. Although he had indeed asked the guy to talk, he hadn't expected it to actually be able to speak!

Rule Four: You may see various small animals in the inn. Remember, parrots don't talk. If you see a talking parrot, pretend you didn't hear it. Most animals are docile, but never stay in a room with only one type of animal for too long.

Smir didn't answer, pretending he couldn't hear!

The parrot looked him up and down twice more, then finally went back to preening its feathers, ignoring Smir.

Just when Smirre thought he had escaped unscathed, another person walked into the warehouse.

It was a staff member with a pale face.

"Sir, this is not a place for you."

Rule 9: All food is stored inside the warehouse, but to ensure that visitors do not waste food, only staff members are allowed to enter and exit the warehouse. If you need food, please call a staff member and state your needs.

The key point is that only staff members are allowed to enter the warehouse! Smirre clearly violated this rule!

He looked at the parrot with some resentment. He had finally found a clue in the warehouse, but what had he not found yet? Was he going to be kicked out?

"I...I lost something inside! I'll leave once I find it, okay?"

"It's alright, sir. I never intended for you to leave anyway."

Smir was sweating profusely. The once-friendly staff member's eyes were now filled with murderous intent, as if he were about to devour him at any moment!

His talent only makes him immune to mental attacks; if the staff directly attack him, he has no way to fight back!

Smir quickly looked around and finally spotted a door deeper inside. He frantically ran in that direction, and luckily the door wasn't locked, giving him a chance to escape!

Upon entering the room, Smir immediately closed the door. Before he could even catch his breath, he suddenly felt a chill run straight to the top of his head!

"Where...is this place?"

He slowly turned his head. The dark room was lit only by flickering lights and was filled with rows of hooks that looked like those inside a slaughterhouse. But what was hanging on the hooks was neither pork nor beef, but rather plump, dead rats!

Large swaths of spiderwebs had formed in the corner of the room, and several spiders were clinging to the wall. Smirn didn't dare to breathe, because according to the rules, spiders were undoubtedly the most dangerous animals!

There are staff members outside the door, and spiders inside. Is he doomed to die today?

"Let me see who has wandered into my territory—oh! It's just a lost guest!"

The black-clad staff member walked out of the darkness with a smile. Smir was now terrified of the staff member, but the door was right behind him, and there was no way to avoid it!

"No, you're not a staff member. What are you then?"

Smir quickly noticed something was off about the "staff member" in front of him. He was dressed in clothes that were completely different from the other staff members, and his face was not as cold as theirs. In addition, he was in such a place. All the details seemed to indicate that this person was not simple!

Before Smir could react, the black-clad staff member had already come to his side and gently patted his shoulder.

"Are you worried those guys outside will kill you? Don't be afraid, I will protect you, because I am the mountain god who protects this land!"
