Chapter 29 The First Key

So what role does the mountain god actually play? Is he good or evil?

"Could it be that the owner of this notebook died at the hands of the mountain god?"

The task of finding the keys was given by the parrot, who is undoubtedly on the mountain god's side. Will finding all four keys really allow us to pass the level? What if this is just a trap set by the mountain god...?

“No, perhaps the mountain god he thinks of isn’t the real mountain god at all.” Jiang Ran closed his notebook. “We’ve already spent the night at the inn. Have you seen anyone who resembles the mountain god?”

"Even if someone stands in front of us and claims to be the mountain god, how can we judge whether they are right or wrong?"

Jiang Ran recalled the last few words Lin Changqing had given him. Although they were only a few words, he could basically guess the message Lin Changqing wanted to convey.

The staff member in black claimed to be the mountain god.

Don't forget there's one rule—the mountain spirit still roams!

"So the black-clad staff member's actual identity is a mountain spirit, but he has always called himself a mountain god, which is why people misunderstand his identity!"

"Are you saying that the owner of this notebook actually died at the hands of the mountain spirit, but he mistakenly believed it?"

There's no way to be 100% certain about these things; they can only guess at the more probable outcome.

"Let's find the key first; maybe we can discover some other clues."

The two searched for the top-tier rooms in order, and it turned out that Jiang Ran's guess was correct. They found a dark blue key in the bedside table of room number six.

Next to the key lay a piece of broken jade, which seemed to be able to be pieced together with the other broken jade pieces to form a complete jade pendant.

Although the parrot didn't tell them about the broken jade, anyone with a brain could tell it was an important item, so Jiang Ran put it away.

But now the problem is that all four keys are indispensable. Finding only one key is useless, because it won't work if you're missing just one key!

What do fog, epidemic, and moon represent respectively?

Hanamura Uchika, still in the restroom, hadn't found the key, which made him doubt his judgment.

"Isn't it in the toilet? But wait, what does that fog mean?"

Just as the three of them were pondering the meaning of the fog, various experts in the live chat began to analyze it!

"Do you think the fog refers to the white fog in the jungle?"

"No way, don't forget you can't leave the inn. You have to search within the rules, right?"

Netizens engaged in a heated discussion about the last three characters. Perhaps someone has already given the correct answer, but due to the sheer amount of information, it is impossible to distinguish right from wrong.

After searching all the top-tier rooms, the two still couldn't find the second key. Jiang Ran decided to check the other rooms, since the key might be hidden in any place they hadn't been before!

It's only morning now, the sky is still early, and they have plenty of time.

Hanamura Kuya also began wandering around the inn.

"Has anyone noticed something strange? We can't see a single staff member here anymore!"

"That's right, and the rats are gone too! Even that staff member in black hasn't shown up since!"

"Could those staff members have been...?"

"Moreover, Jiang and the other two took turns being invisible last night, and so much time has passed since then, yet this situation has not occurred again."

Jiang Ran and his companion had searched through all the rooms at Tiandi Ren. It seemed there was only one key to the guest rooms. Since they couldn't miss any detail, the search had taken until almost noon.

They were about to go to the warehouse to get some food when they saw a spider rapidly climbing up and down a pillar!

Rule 20: As a staff member, you cannot harm the normal guests. You can chase away crows and feed them liquor. If you see a spider, please use the tools around you to kill it. If there are rats attacking guests, please protect them. However, if any guest violates the inn's rules, please kill them.

As staff members, hunting spiders is their responsibility; ignoring it would be considered a violation of the rules!

Wips grabbed a broom and swatted the spider dead, just as someone patted him on the shoulder from behind.

"Insects are living beings too, why can't we cherish them?"

"I'll protect your grandma's legs!"

Wips turned around and swept the broom across, while the black-clad staff member held the broom with one hand, his face still bearing that smug expression.

I was saying I hadn't seen this guy before, but I didn't expect him to be causing trouble again!

Both of them were accidentally photographed by him; his unpredictable speed made it impossible to defend against!

Being touched means being infected. If they can't disinfect themselves with liquor as soon as possible, given their current status as staff members, their fate will be to become rats!

"If you two have time, you can come to the room inside the warehouse to find me. I would be happy to entertain you."

The staff member in black disappeared again, and the next moment they appeared in the live broadcast room of Sakura Country, behind Hanamura Uchiko!

The black-clad staff member infected all three of them on their first attempt the next day. Fortunately, they were only infected, unlike what they had done to Jin Jinwang the previous night.

"I protest! This guy is clearly targeting our South Korea! Why is everyone else just infected, but when it comes to us, he just kills us outright!"

"Alright, I know you're not thinking straight. Whose fault is it that you want to go out after midnight? In my opinion, this guy can only infect people between 12 and 3 a.m.!"

"Furthermore, he absolutely cannot infect the same person indefinitely. There must be either an extremely long time limit in between, or he would have to pay a price to infect someone. These must be the restrictions imposed by the supernatural world to prevent him from becoming too invincible!"

This wasn't the first time either of them had been infected, and logically they should be disinfecting themselves with baijiu (a type of Chinese liquor), but they both thought of that rule—

Rule 19: The mountain spirit is still wandering around the inn. If you are unfortunately infected, please drink the juice within one minute. During this time, please avoid the rats and do not have any physical contact with them. Remember, do not harm the rats during this process. If you really don't have time to escape, please call for the parrot's help.

The staff guidelines require infected individuals to drink fruit juice instead of liquor. Infected guests will turn into spiders, while infected staff will turn into rats. Does this indicate a difference between the two?

While baijiu (a type of Chinese liquor) can disinfect infected hotel guests, it may not be suitable for infected staff members!

"It's better not to be a staff member!"

Wips wanted to take off his work clothes and revert to being a guest so he could go back to his room to disinfect, but he couldn't get the work clothes off no matter what he did; some force was stopping him!
