What does the Goddess of Night want to do with these archbishops? Or rather, what do the archbishops want to do with the Goddess of Night?
This is a win-win deal.
The goddess of night distrusts the moon and darkness, yet desires to preserve the people of the tomb village. Therefore, she needs a trustworthy person to succeed her as goddess of night.
And if this person were an archbishop from the cemetery village, he would be the perfect fit!
Although most of the archbishops are male, once they become gods, gender is the least important thing. Who says the goddess of the night can't be male?
If all else fails, change the name. How about "God of the Night"? But that sounds like some kind of non-mainstream nickname... How about "God of the Night" instead?
That's why the Goddess of Night summoned the archbishops to her divine kingdom, with the aim of having them replace her as the next Goddess of Night!
Once the next goddess of night is chosen, the goddess will naturally have no burdens and can confidently inherit the position of goddess of day.
Inheriting the power of the night is not an easy thing, which is why the goddess of the night has brought up so many archbishops. After all, if one doesn't work, then two will; if two don't work, then four will; if four don't work, then eight will. Surely one of them will succeed?
Indeed, this is true. Even if the cemetery only sends up one archbishop each year, over time the number of archbishops will reach a terrifying level, because for God, time is the one thing that is never lacking.
Since success is inevitable, the Goddess of the Night can certainly wait.
"Unfortunately, this was just a dream of some foolish boy. When he wakes up, it's all gone. So, goddess, you can't actually afford to wait..."
Jiang Ran couldn't help but complain, then observed the entire courtyard. In the dark corner, many people sat cross-legged on the ground, closing their eyes to feel the power of the night; these must have been the archbishops of past years.
Jiang Ran's arrival caused many of them to open their eyes and look at him with puzzled expressions.
"Why is another archbishop here? Didn't one just come?"
"No way? I've only been in seclusion for a short while, and a whole year has already passed?"
"Who is this guy? He's not from our Graveyard Village, is he? I've never seen him before!"
The previous archbishop opened his eyes and was instantly stunned.
"It's you? You've become an archbishop too?"
"It's hard to explain to you clearly," Jiang Ran shrugged. "But that's really the case."
When they first met, the archbishop sensed the power of darkness within Jiang Ran. At the time, he thought Jiang Ran was a chosen one of the night, but Jiang Ran later allowed him to sacrifice himself, which made him abandon that idea.
Moreover, the sacrifice requires the goddess's response, and if the goddess does not trust the man in front of her, she will naturally not let him in.
Despite their doubts, the archbishops were still willing to believe everyone who came here.
"Since you're here, let's sit down and meditate together."
"Perhaps long afterward, we will become the night."
Jiang Ran guessed that, following the normal procedure, to pass the level, he would have to help the Goddess of Night solve her current problem. So, what he needed to do next was to help one of the archbishops take charge of the night, or... do it himself!
But the moon and darkness have not been shaken yet, which shows that the archbishops are not making much progress. They intend to use time to make up for it, but Jiang Ran has no intention of wasting time with them.
He decided to use a simpler and more direct method to solve the goddess's current predicament.
Jiang Ran crossed the dark area and walked towards the place illuminated by the sun, where there was a white palace.
He entered the palace, which was filled with light despite the lack of any lighting equipment. The entire palace was empty and devoid of any superfluous decorations.
Deep inside the palace, Jiang Ran saw a woman hanging upside down. She was dressed in black, but covered by a white veil. White and black chains bound her feet.
White chains extended to the ceiling, while black chains hung directly to the floor.
Jiang Ran couldn't see her face clearly, but he knew who she was.
Goddess of the Night!
"It seems you still yearn for the sun."
“Everyone yearns for the sun,” the goddess of night replied quietly. “If you want to help me, try to control the night.”
“I can see that you don’t want the world to be destroyed, so it would be a good choice to let you take on this power, provided that you can really do it.”
Jiang Ran circled the palace and then surprisingly found a tombstone behind the Goddess of the Night!
It was a tombstone with nothing written on it!
Rule 4: Always pay attention to the epitaphs on tombstones. Be wary of any epitaphs that look strange. If you see a blank tombstone, don't hesitate, leave immediately.
"What's this?"
"You don't need to know."
The goddess of the night refused to answer.
A tombstone appears in the palace that represents the sun; the tombstone represents the dead, who belong to darkness.
Jiang Ran understood. This was the "impurity" expelled by the Goddess of Night after she received the power of the sun! Of the three authorities under Night—darkness, the moon, and the stars—darkness had the most serious conflict with the sun, and was therefore the first to be abandoned by the goddess!
The darkness, though out of control, failed to seize all the dark power from the goddess! And this remaining dark power formed this tombstone!
This part of the darkness was left by the goddess in the sun's palace! Therefore, the darkness outside is always incomplete and can never truly threaten the goddess!
"As expected of a goddess, you always manage to hold victory firmly in your grasp, no matter what."
Jiang Ran slowly approached the tombstone, then took out a branch from his body and carved the two characters "Sun" on the tombstone!
"A blank tombstone is meaningless; let's give it some meaning!"
The Tomb of the Sun!
The goddess suddenly opened her eyes!
"What are you doing?!"
The sun's name was inscribed on a tombstone representing darkness! This signified the sun's burial, further intensifying the clash between the sun and the forces of darkness! The entire temple began to tremble!
"Let me help you!"
Jiang Ran used the tree branch in his hand as a weapon and swiftly slashed at the white chain!
This is a miracle from the Wheel of Fortune!
Since the Goddess of Night wants to protect her people, then fine! Jiang Ran will directly steer the situation to its optimal state!
No one else needs to sit in the seat of the Goddess of Night! Since she once ruled only the night, let her continue to rule in the future!
Jiang Ran wants to sever the connection between the goddess and the sun, so that daylight returns to its ownerless state and the goddess becomes the goddess of night once again!
