Chapter 486 The Sick Sheep

Black rain pelted the sheepcat. Without it leading the way, and due to the weather, the flock was clearly showing signs of panic.

The shepherd cat glanced at Jiang Ran one last time, then could only return to the front of the group and use its roar to intimidate the flock!

Even so, one sheep broke away from the flock and ran into the distance. Jiang Ran could only vaguely notice that the sheepcat didn't pay any attention to the sheep.

Was it because they were worried that searching for the sheep would cause chaos in the group? Or was there some other reason?

[Rule 5: You must drive your flock to pasture 50km away before dusk every day, and then lead your flock back to the shepherd's hut without missing a single sheep before nightfall. You must do this every day, it is mandatory.]

Jiang Ran was determined to lead the flock back to the shepherd's hut without missing a single sheep. He was actually quite glad that he had just spotted this particular sheep running away. With such a large flock, it was impossible for him to observe all directions at all times!

The round trip is 100km in total. It's perfectly normal for accidents to happen along the way. Trying to avoid losing a single sheep is too difficult, no, it should be said that it is an impossible task.

He wasn't herding sheep on a real grassland, but in a world of ghost stories!

Jiang Ran stepped off the sheep's back, intending to use his physical abilities to catch it. Although it was almost impossible to catch any sheep, he figured he should at least try since it hadn't happened yet.

Moreover, he also wanted to see what dangers this sheep would encounter!

In the dark drizzle, a gray figure rushed towards them. What was that? It was a wolf!

Rule 8: Beware of prairie wolves

Wolves eat sheep! This is common knowledge that everyone knows.

But the moment the white sheep saw the wolf, it didn't run away; instead, it charged towards the wolf!

Dude, what are you doing over there? Going to your death?!

The white sheep and the prairie wolf collided quickly. The prairie wolf had run a long way and finally spotted the white sheep, but instead of making any move to pounce or bite, it lay down on the ground.

The ape bit the wolf's neck off in one bite, then lowered its head, preparing to devour the wolf on the spot!

Before it could bite again, Jiang Ran caught the white sheep and threw it back into the flock!

The wolf carcass on the ground was not completely unresponsive, still trembling slightly, with blood flowing from its wounds, staining the green grass red.

Beware of the prairie wolf... But the prairie wolf's appearance is only to get its own death; it wants the sheep to eat it!

What would happen if the sheep actually ate it?

Jiang Ran felt that it was best for him to prevent this from happening.

Back on the sheep's back, Jiang Ran told Lin Zhi about it. After listening, Lin Zhi pondered for a few seconds and asked uncertainly, "Brother Jiang Ran, do you think... the sheep we're herding are really sheep?"

Yeah, are they really herding sheep? What kind of sheep would eat wolves?

The light rain was still falling, turning the originally snow-white flock of sheep gray. The shepherd cat continued to perform its duties and hadn't come looking for Jiang Ran since then, remaining at the front of the team.

They walked for an unknown amount of time before the sky finally cleared. Jiang Ran estimated that they had covered half the distance. During this time, apart from the sudden appearance of the grassland wolf, nothing else unexpected happened.

Suddenly, the flock of sheep stopped.

The shepherd cat's howl came from ahead. Jiang Ran and Lin Zhi exchanged a glance and then went to the front of the flock of sheep.

It turned out that a sheep had collapsed on the ground and started convulsing; no one knew what illness it had.

When Jiang Ran looked at the sheepcat again, he noticed that its entire body had faded under the wash of the black rain. The originally bright tiger stripes had turned into a pale gray with a slightly lifeless look.

"What went wrong?"

“This sheep is struggling to stay afloat,” the shepherd cat replied. “If we continue, we’ll abandon it here, so I’ve stopped the flock for now.”

"You are the master, I will listen to you."

Unable to maintain its own stability? What exactly are these sheep? The sheepdog didn't seem inclined to explain further, and Jiang Ran began to examine the sheep.

The sheep had started rolling its eyes, but it didn't have vertical pupils. Apart from convulsing, it didn't seem to have any other abnormalities.

Jiang Ran glanced at the sheepcat: "I need to lead the flock to the destination and then bring them all back without losing a single one. Of course, I can't abandon any of the sheep, but there's no need to let them walk to the destination on their own."

He placed the convulsing sheep on the back of another sheep, letting that sheep carry it on its back as they continued on their way.

The sheepcat smiled and said, "You are the master, I will listen to you."

Jiang Ran didn't return to the flock. He just followed behind that sheep. He felt that this matter was not over yet. What disease did the convulsing sheep have, and what would be the final consequences?

About ten minutes later, the convulsions became more intense, and the person rolled onto the ground, lying on their back with their feet in the air, foaming at the mouth!

Its belly burst open, and a thin, bony hand emerged, waving wildly. Then, the hand grabbed the sheep's body and ripped the entire belly open!

A dwarf, hairless and covered in slime, resembling a mummified corpse, crawled out of the sheep's body. It lay on the ground, grabbed a handful of grass, stuffed it into its mouth, chewed it a couple of times, and then spat it out!

"So, are all these thousands of white sheep actually this kind of thing?"

Lin Zhi felt a chill. She glanced at the flock of sheep around her, then looked at the sheep she was riding. If she hadn't been a seasoned veteran with a mental fortitude far beyond that of an ordinary person, she probably would have jumped off the sheep's back by now.

Jiang Ran watched the dwarf on the ground as if he were watching a play, his chin resting on his hand. The dwarf rolled on the ground, and his skin gradually cracked as it was exposed to the air.

Gradually, it lay on the ground and remained motionless.

The dwarf's flesh sank into the ground, and before their eyes, a bright red flower bloomed on the grassland. It took only five seconds from growth to maturity, and the size of the red flower was comparable to a washbasin!

[Rule 1: During the day, be aware of certain red flowers on the grassland; at night, beware of large patches of white flowers appearing.]

Sheep can get sick, which is essentially dwarfism. Dwarfism appears after the sheep get sick, and the sheep will die after it appears. After it dies, will it turn into a flower?

So, what caused the sheep to get sick?
