After exchanging pleasantries, the group returned to the Huo family's courtyard house in Kyoto.
After receiving their call that they were coming back, Grandpa Qin had the house cleaned inside and out again. This morning, he asked Aunt Hua to buy groceries. When the group returned, Aunt Hua and Sister-in-law Sun had already prepared the meal and were waiting for them.
The Huo and Huo families were stunned when they saw their home. The house was even better than the one they lived in back home. Not only were there many rooms, but they were also large and spacious. Even with so many children in the family, there would be enough room for them to sleep without having to squeeze in with their parents.
The yard is large enough that both the front and back yards can be used to grow vegetables, and the seeds they brought from home will soon be put to good use.
Because Ye Weiwei's family and Grandpa Qin were there, Su Xuemei and Zhao Lingdang suppressed the gasps that were about to escape their lips, trying their best not to lose their composure and make a fool of themselves, so as not to be looked down upon. However, they could not hide the excitement on their faces.
When children first arrive in an unfamiliar place, they are both curious and reserved. They obediently stay by the adults' side, not running around or touching anything, behaving very well.
Huo Hai and Huo Jiang, on the other hand, couldn't help but sigh when they saw so many houses in the front and back yards.
Huo Jiang scratched his head sheepishly and said, "With so many rooms, how can we possibly accommodate everyone?"
Huo Hai also said, "This house is big and beautiful. Mom, will our wages be enough to pay the rent? Or should we move to a smaller one? The whole family can squeeze in and live there."
This is Kyoto, after all. Such a big house must cost a fortune every month. They're new here, so they have to be careful and not spend money recklessly. The city is not like the countryside; there are many more places to spend money here.
Liu Guilan observed her two daughters-in-law's behavior and nodded inwardly. It was worth the effort of her usual guidance and the special instructions she had given them before coming; they had managed to keep a composed demeanor in front of others.
She looked at her two simple-minded sons and said irritably, "The house belongs to Weiwei and the third son. We don't have to pay for it."
Huo Xiao was about to retort when Liu Guilan stopped him with a look, and Ye Weiwei remained silent as well.
Upon hearing this, Su Xuemei immediately said, "How can that be! We can't just stay in such a big house for free."
Zhao Lingdang added, "Sister-in-law is right. We know that the third brother and Weiwei meant well, but even brothers should keep clear accounts. Once we've settled in, we still have to pay the rent."
Huo Hai and Huo Jiang shared the same idea.
Liu Guilan nodded, "That's the right way to think. While family members should help each other, they also need to be mindful of boundaries in their dealings."
Although Grandpa Qin felt that Liu Guilan's refusal to fully accept the house and her insistence on registering it with Huo Xiao and Ye Weiwei was too distant, he couldn't help but admire Liu Guilan's success in educating her children.
He knew that Liu Guilan, like Qingxue, was a proud person at heart. She was loyal, trustworthy, not greedy, knew how to advance and retreat, and was easy to get along with. She would not belittle herself because of their background.
But the more he felt this way, the more he felt he owed this family a great deal.
I can only offer to help out in the days to come. Anyway, he's already in Kyoto, and there's a long road ahead of us.
Ye's parents had been secretly observing the Huo family and were quite satisfied with their in-laws.
The meal was a pleasant one for both the host and guests.
After finishing their meal, Mr. and Mrs. Ye left early.
Grandpa Qin originally wanted to keep Aunt Hua and Sister-in-law Sun to help with the tidying up, but Liu Guilan and the others declined, so they had to go back early to let the Huo family get some rest.
After everyone left, Liu Guilan pointed to the room she had prepared earlier for the old man and the room for the third son's family. Only then did she let the eldest son's family and the second son's family choose their rooms. Once they had chosen, they tidied up all the things they had brought.
By the time they finished their work, it was already evening. During that time, Ye Weiwei and Huo Xiao also took them to a scrap yard and a department store to buy some second-hand furniture and other missing daily necessities.
Dinner was cooked by Su Xuemei and Zhao Lingdang. They made a big stew with the leftovers from lunch and added a row of pancakes and potstickers to the side of the pot. The whole family enjoyed the meal.
After dinner, Liu Guilan called a family meeting.
"We are able to move to Kyoto as a family thanks to our third son and Weiwei. We have now emerged from our poor mountain village. What we will achieve in the future depends on our own hard work and efforts."
But whether you're doing well or not, you must never forget who led you out of this situation. You must remember this and know how to repay kindness. Do you all understand?
Everyone present, adults and children alike, answered in unison, "We heard you!"
Liu Guilan nodded in satisfaction. “Living in Beijing is not easy. We are new here and need to figure out many things, especially the eldest and second eldest sons and your family. After you start working in the factory, you must work hard and work together to support this family as soon as possible.”
Both Huo Hai and Huo Jiang nodded vigorously to indicate that they understood.
They are now full of energy and can't wait to go to work and earn money to support their families.
Liu Guilan was relatively at ease with her eldest and second sons' families. Although they weren't as capable as her third son and his wife, they could still earn a decent living by working honestly.
Most importantly, her two sons and two daughters-in-law listened to her advice, and with her watching over them, nothing too serious was bound to go wrong.
After all, everyone had been on the train for several days and spent most of the day cleaning the house, so Liu Guilan gave them a few instructions and told them to go to sleep and rest.
Ye Weiwei and Huo Xiao had already told Grandpa Qin that they would stay here for the next couple of days, so they took the children back to their room.
Once back in the room and after settling the children in, Ye Weiwei grabbed Huo Xiao and started to take off his clothes.
Huo Xiao quickly grabbed his wife's hand and chuckled as he changed the subject, "Honey, I know you've missed me these past few days, but can we turn off the lights first?"
Ye Weiwei looked at Huo Xiao quietly without saying a word.
Huo Xiao awkwardly dropped his playful grin, and then, under Ye Weiwei's oppressive gaze, released Ye Weiwei's hand, letting her tear open his clothes.
"Hiss~ Honey, be gentle, be gentle..."
Ye Weiwei sneered: "Now you know what pain is? I thought you couldn't feel pain at all!"
Huo Xiao looked at Ye Weiwei pitifully and begged for mercy, "I was just afraid you would worry! Today is the first day the whole family moved to Kyoto, and I didn't want to spoil everyone's fun."
Ye Weiwei sneered, "Since you like playing the hero, then play the hero to the very end!"
Huo Xiao looked aggrieved: "That was in front of other people. In front of my own wife, why would I pretend? I was just afraid you'd feel bad..."
