Chapter 366 Changing Surname

Ye Weiwei found their wariness amusing and, while acknowledging their kindness, kept the matter in mind.

Regardless of what those people from the Chu family were after, she would accept it.

Not to mention that she is now the head daughter-in-law of the Qin family and her husband is the youngest regimental commander in the military region with a promising future, even without these identities, the Chu family would definitely not get any good out of her.

She's quite bored taking care of the kids at home all day, so she uses this as a way to pass the time.

She went with the Song family father and son to see Old Master Song, who also reminded her of the Chu family's affairs.

Ye Weiwei was quite curious about who this second wife of the Chu family was, that she could make the Song family so wary.

After returning home, Liu Guilan pulled Ye Weiwei aside and showed her the things that the Song family father and son had sent.

Three bolts of cloth, one a thick blue and the other a thick gray cotton cloth. These two bolts of cloth can be used to make clothes for everyone in the family, young and old.

Another batch is made of trendy printed polyester, perfect for making shirts or dresses for the women and girls in the family.

Besides these three good bolts of cloth, there are also two bolts of coarse cloth, both of which are flawed. However, if they are properly cut, they can be used to make clothes. The dyed parts can also be used to make shoe uppers and insoles, so nothing is wasted.

Liu Guilan: "Just this fabric alone is enough for each of us in the family to make several sets of clothes. Mr. Song and Song Li also brought so many canned fruits, snacks and milk powder. This is too much."

Last time, Ye Weiwei asked Song Li to help find jobs for her eldest and second sons' families, and she carefully calculated and gave the money to Song Li. This time, the Song family father and son sent so many things, which was obviously an excuse to give Weiwei gifts and repay a favor under the pretext of their move.

Even though she knew the textile factory manager was from the Song family, the fact that he brought so much cloth at once really surprised Liu Guilan.

Ye Weiwei didn't care much about these things. She knew that the Song family was trying to befriend her, and since she could indeed cure Old Master Song, she accepted these gifts without hesitation.

"Mom, you and your sisters-in-law are going to have to work hard and make more clothes for the family. Don't keep them and be reluctant to use them. Your eldest brother and sister-in-law are working in the factory now, unlike when they were working in the fields at home. They need to dress presentably, and so do the children."

Liu Guilan insisted, "They bought new clothes before they came, and they have clothes to change into now, so there's no need to waste them like this. The same goes for the children. Just make a set for Xiaoshan and Xiaochun, and if they outgrow theirs, the younger siblings can wear whatever they have. I'll put all this fabric in your room for you to keep. It'll be presentable for making clothes or giving as gifts in the future."

Ye Weiwei smiled and stopped her, "Mom, I know you've always been thrifty and hardworking, but what's that saying again? Clothes make the man, and gold makes the Buddha. We're new here, so we can't let people look down on us from the start, especially my eldest brother and sister-in-law, and my second brother and sister-in-law. If we dress smartly, we'll have more confidence in what we say and do, right?"

How could Liu Guilan not understand these things? But how could she possibly use Weiwei's things to do someone a favor?

Ye Weiwei saw through her thoughts at a glance and said with a smile, "Mom, they said it's for our whole family. If it's just for me, why would we need so much? You can't be stingy this time. You two should also get a new set of clothes. Picking Xiaoshan and Xiaochun up from school every day will make the children proud, and fewer people will bully them at school."

When Liu Guilan heard that she and her husband would both have to make it, she was about to refuse, but Ye Weiwei made her hesitate.

Finally, the fabric was divided into two parts. One part was enough to make a set of clothes for Ye Weiwei's family. The rest, Liu Guilan and her eldest and second daughters-in-law worked for several days to make a new set of clothes for everyone in the family except for the three little ones. Even Grandpa Qin had a set, which Liu Guilan asked Aunt Hua for the size to make.

Wearing the dark blue Zhongshan suit, Grandpa Qin looked exceptionally energetic. He happily praised Liu Guilan's craftsmanship, saying it was no less than that of Master Liu, the tailor at home.

This is also his favorite outfit to wear on ordinary days.

While Huo Xiao was recuperating at home, he wanted to help with some chores and cleared the vegetable gardens in the front and back yards. However, Ye Weiwei sent him away to look after the children. When he tried to do it himself, he was stopped by Old Man Huo and Liu Guilan.

Liu Guilan couldn't bear to let Ye Weiwei do these things. She didn't know Huo Xiao was injured. When she saw Huo Xiao was idle, she scolded him severely. Later, Ye Weiwei saw that Huo Xiao was too frustrated and knew that she couldn't hide it anymore, so she gave Liu Guilan a hint.

After Liu Guilan dragged Huo Xiao back to his room and saw the injuries on his body, she felt as if a piece of her heart had been ripped out. That afternoon, she went outside and traded a chicken with her neighbor to kill it and make chicken soup for Huo Xiao to nourish his body. She then watched over Huo Xiao every day as he ate the nourishing food and forbade him to move around. It wasn't until Huo Xiao couldn't take it anymore and said he wanted to stay in the compound for two days that she reluctantly let him go. Before leaving, she also told Ye Weiwei to keep a close eye on him.

Seeing Huo Xiao leave the house as if he had escaped a terrible death, Ye Weiwei said irritably, "Serves you right!"

Let's see if this scoundrel dares to be so careless with his body next time.

Back at the compound, Grandpa Qin naturally knew about Huo Xiao's injury. Although he spoke tough to Huo Xiao's face, saying that a real man doesn't lose an arm or a leg and that such a minor flesh injury is nothing, he privately instructed Aunt Hua more than once to cook delicious food to help Huo Xiao recover.

Despite their constant bickering and arguing, this father and son are unwaveringly protective of each other. Ye Weiwei once overheard Old Master Zhong complaining to Old Master Qin on the phone that Huo Xiao was becoming increasingly difficult to manage. He had painstakingly raised him, but the brat was untamable and always sided with the Qin family, yet the Qin family still refused to give him a proper status.

Grandpa Qin was smug and proud in front of Grandpa Zhong, boasting that Huo Xiao was indeed his son and would naturally side with him. After hanging up the phone, he sighed for a long time in his study.

During dinner, after having a small glass of wine, Old Master Qin finally took the opportunity, fueled by the alcohol, to bring up the matter of changing his and his children's surnames with Huo Xiao.

After speaking, he pretended to be calm but actually stared at Huo Xiao cautiously.

Seeing Huo Xiao remain silent made him even more anxious.

"If you don't want to, then forget it..."

"OK!"

Just as Old Master Qin was realizing that the timing of his suggestion was wrong and too early, he suddenly heard Huo Xiao's words and his eyes widened in surprise, "You...you agreed?"

"You...you really agree? You're not lying to me?"

He checked again, still not entirely sure, his voice strained and his eyes reddening.

Seeing his timid and spineless appearance, Huo Xiao leaned back in his chair and said irritably, "It's just changing a surname, what's the big deal!"
