Chen Jiali looked at Ye Weiwei excitedly: "Weiwei, is something wrong...?"
Ye Weiwei nodded: "Don't worry, as long as he's willing to put in the effort, he'll definitely be rewarded. Xiuyue, go back and talk to Wu Dayou to see if he can come along. I'm short a few people here."
Wu Xiuyue immediately replied, "Alright, alright! I knew you wouldn't treat them unfairly! We country folk are all willing to put in the effort; the worst thing is having the strength but nowhere to use it!"
But are my second cousin and Zhao Dabao enough?
Ye Weiwei: "For now, it's just the two of them. Let them come over and run around with us to get familiar with the route."
Wu Xiuyue nodded hurriedly.
As for Chen Jiali, her mind had already flown back to Daqingshan Village.
It had been half a year since they last met. Even though they exchanged letters every two weeks, she still missed him terribly. Especially after hearing Ye Weiwei's plans, she wished she could grow wings and fly back.
After strolling around and chatting for a while, the group parted ways.
Ye Weiwei drove Wu Xiuyue and Chen Jiali back to school, and then took the four children to the Huo family.
Liu Guilan had been busy making matchboxes and crafts lately and hadn't been to see her grandchildren at the Qin family mansion for quite some time. When she saw Ye Weiwei and the others arrive, she was overjoyed and kissed each of the four children. Then she started taking out food, peanuts, melon seeds, candy, and biscuits, and even opened a can of mandarin oranges for Yan Jin.
She remembered that Yan Jin liked to eat orange-flavored candy, and a while ago when she went shopping at the department store, she saw canned oranges and bought them specifically.
Yan Jin also adored his grandmother, Liu Guilan. Every time he saw her, he felt as if he were seeing his own grandmother.
His biological grandmother was the same way; she always remembered what he liked and disliked, unlike his so-called biological mother!
In the evening, Xiaoshan, Xiaochuan, Xiaochun, Xiaoxia, and Xiaoqiu all came home from school. As soon as they arrived at the door, they saw the little car and rushed in. They were overjoyed to see Ye Weiwei and her younger siblings.
Xiaoshan boasted, "Auntie, I got a perfect score on my Chinese exam this time."
Xiao Chuan puffed out his little chest: "Auntie, I got full marks in both Chinese and math."
Xiaochun's eyes shone with confidence: "Auntie, I got full marks in math and Chinese, and my teacher even praised my essays and read them aloud in class as model essays."
Xia looked dejected: "I only got a perfect score in Chinese, and I only got 96 in math because I got one question wrong."
Xiao Qiu looked at her older brothers and sisters, raised her little paw, and when Ye Weiwei didn't call her name, she kept waving it anxiously. After Ye Weiwei called her name, she said loudly, "I helped my classmates at kindergarten today, and the teacher rewarded me with a little red flower!"
Looking at the little ones who were so eager for approval, Ye Weiwei patted each of their heads and said, "Hmm, not bad! You all did very well! Auntie is very happy, so as a reward, Auntie has decided to grant each of you one wish. You can think about what you want and then tell me."
"real?"
Xiaoshan jumped for joy, exclaiming, "That's wonderful! Long live Auntie! I knew you were the best, Auntie!"
Xiao Chuan followed his brother's lead, shouting, "Long live Auntie! Auntie, you're the best!"
The other children also excitedly thanked Ye Weiwei.
Liu Guilan, standing to the side, deliberately put on a stern face, "What nonsense are you all talking about! Hasn't your aunt been good enough to you? Haven't you given her enough? You little greedy devils!"
After saying that, she looked at Ye Weiwei disapprovingly: "Weiwei, don't spoil them with these bad habits, or you'll spoil them all."
Seeing the little ones all looking dejected, Ye Weiwei chuckled and ruffled their hair, comforting them as she said to Liu Guilan, "Mom, it's good to give the children a little reward for their good behavior. It will motivate them to study even harder. Don't worry, I know what I'm doing. Besides, they're all so sensible, I won't spoil them."
Liu Guilan scolded, "Now that we live in such a big house in Kyoto and go to such a good school, I don't know how many people would envy us. What more could we ask for? If anyone dares not to study hard and waste their time, I'll break their legs!"
You always buy them so many things, you don't earn money easily, you can't be too lenient with yourself."
Ye Weiwei listened humbly and attentively, "Yes, yes, I understand. Mom, don't worry, it's just a little encouragement for them, the children know what they're doing."
Seeing that she was determined, Liu Guilan knew that nothing she said would make a difference, so she glared at Xiaoshan, who had been jumping around the most enthusiastically just now, and said in an annoyed tone: "You better behave yourself!"
Xiaoshan touched his nose and obediently said, "Okay, Grandma."
After he finished speaking, he looked up and saw Ye Weiwei winking at him. He immediately smiled and lowered his head, afraid that his grandmother would notice.
Ye Weiwei ate dinner here.
The children hadn't seen each other for a while, so they played together wildly.
When Ye Weiwei saw Xiaoshan and the others taking Yan Jin and the triplets to see the vegetable garden they had cultivated in the backyard, she enthusiastically explained to Yan Jin and the triplets which plot they were responsible for and what they had planted, which Yan Jin and the triplets listened to with great interest.
The vegetable garden was established by Liu Guilan and Old Man Huo, who led the children to set up a plot for each of them, including even the youngest child, Xiao Qiu.
The two elderly people meant that although they had moved from the countryside to the city, they should not forget their roots. Their children should not be so ignorant that they don't even know what crops and vegetables look like in the fields.
So what if they come from humble backgrounds? It's not shameful!
Moreover, letting children experience the hard work of farming and growing vegetables can make them cherish their good life more, study hard, and strive for progress.
Ye Weiwei couldn't help but admire the two elders' actions.
Many rural people, after moving to the city, try their best to forget or get rid of their past identity as rural people, feeling ashamed and inferior, and even looking down on rural people more than those city dwellers.
It's really rare to find people with such sound values as these two elders.
When the eldest Huo couple and the second Huo couple came home from get off work, they were delighted to see a group of children making a lively scene at home.
Su Xuemei happened to be carrying a two-pound piece of pork belly to make dumplings, so after greeting Ye Weiwei, she rolled up her sleeves and quickly got to work.
Zhao Lingdang took out the design drafts she had drawn up during this period and asked Ye Weiwei to take a look and give her some advice.
Her designs were adopted by the factory several times and she gained recognition from the higher-ups. Now she is a proper fashion designer in the textile factory.
