Chapter 98 Uncle, do you still need ginseng?

Many hands make light work.

With the help of the Huo family, the house was quickly tidied up. Bai Wenshan originally planned to invite the Huo family to stay for dinner, but the Huo family refused no matter what they said. They even pulled Huo Xiao away, saying that they should eat early and get some rest.

After the Huo family left, Ye Weiwei and her second cousin went to the educated youth settlement to get food, while Bai Wenshan and Zhang Juncheng started washing pots and vegetables and cooking. Their uncle, Zhang Changnian, was assigned to tend the fire.

This kind of rural earthen stove is something only he knows how to use in his family.

There is a well in the front yard. When the village chief led people to repair the house, he also cleaned the well. The well water is clear, so we don't have to go far to the village to fetch water, which saves a lot of trouble.

Back at the educated youth settlement, Ye Weiwei introduced her second cousin to Hou Zheng and the others, while she went back to her room to get her things.

When Xu Meijun heard that Ye Weiwei's family had bought the house behind the village for her to live in, she was incredibly envious and kept saying that she would definitely visit Ye Weiwei's new house after she got married. Ye Weiwei naturally agreed without hesitation.

When the village distributed grain, Ye Weiwei exchanged some coarse grains for fine grains, and then bought another fifty jin of fine grains from the village. So most of her grains were fine grains, and very little coarse grains.

While carrying the grain, she secretly took some out of her spatial storage and put it in her basket. It contained a little bit of wood-elemental energy, which she planned to use to cook for her uncle's family that evening.

After the two returned home, Ye Weiwei saw that her uncle, aunt, and older cousin were all busy, so she rolled up her sleeves and prepared to work as well. However, her aunt sent her aside to play. Her second cousin, on the other hand, put down the grain and started drawing water from the well, cleaning the water tank and filling it with water.

Ye Weiwei felt completely helpless. She wanted to help her older cousin wash vegetables, but he said the well water was too cold and wouldn't let her touch it. She wanted to help her younger uncle tend the fire, but he was worried she'd get her face blackened by the smoke and burn her eyebrows. As for helping her younger aunt cook...

I'd better not, I really don't have the skill.

So, while her uncle's family was busy, she could only sit on the side like a good girl and chat with everyone.

When Bai Wenshan saw the grain in Ye Weiwei's basket, she was extremely surprised. "Weiwei, is this grain grown in your village? The quality is so good?"

Ye Weiwei had already prepared her explanation: "No, I bought it when I went to the county town."

Upon hearing this, her uncle knew there was something fishy about her background. He glared at her and said, "Why aren't you staying here? What are you doing wandering around the county town? Don't you know that human traffickers like to target pretty girls like you?"

Ye Weiwei proudly tilted her chin up, "I'm not afraid of human traffickers at all. If we really ran into one, who knows who would be the unlucky one!"

The older cousin said unhappily, "You can't think like that. No matter how good you are, can one person fight against a group? Those people are organized and commit crimes in a group. Don't take it lightly. Your own safety is always the most important thing."

My second cousin was also very angry: "What's wrong with Huo Xiao? Why did he just let you run wild in the county town all by yourself?"

Bai Wenshan sighed and said earnestly, "Weiwei, you can't be willful at a time like this. If something happens to you, we'll be heartbroken."

Ye Weiwei thought that it wouldn't be a big deal for her to fight a group by herself, but now that she was facing four mouths and eight eyes all by herself, she felt a lot of pressure.

"I understand, I won't do it again next time."

Finally, she put on a well-behaved look, as obedient as could be.

This attitude finally put everyone at ease. After giving a few more instructions, they talked about other things and didn't mention the food again.

Dinner was served quickly: two dishes and a soup.

I stewed a big pot of the wild rabbit and potatoes that Ye Weiwei had given me today, then stir-fried some cabbage, made a tomato and egg soup, and served it with white rice.

Ye Weiwei also brought a bottle of baijiu (Chinese liquor) and poured a glass for each of her uncle and two cousins. She and her aunt didn't like drinking, so they just watched them drink.

My uncle doesn't drink much, so he only had a small cup as a token gesture and then stopped. My second cousin, on the other hand, is a big drinker and has a high alcohol tolerance. He persuaded my eldest cousin to drink several cups until my uncle glared at him, at which point he stuck out his tongue and stopped drinking.

That wild rabbit was the biggest and fattest of all the rabbits caught today, weighing at least six or seven pounds. My aunt was a good cook, and the group ate with gusto, their mouths greasy, and they even used the broth to mix with their rice.

Because of the meat gravy, everyone thought the rice tasted especially sweet and delicious today. Plus, it was premium grain, so no one thought much of it.

After they had eaten and drunk their fill, Zhang Changnian called Ye Weiwei over for a private talk. They had been interrupted by someone from the Huo family before they could finish speaking.

Bai Wenshan took her two sons to make up the kang (a heated brick bed) to prepare their sleeping place for the night.

Ye Weiwei recounted in detail what Ye Wanwan had done to Zhang Changnian, and then took out the booklet that had framed Zhang Changnian and the sketch of the person who had contacted Ye Wanwan for Zhang Changnian to review one by one.

As for the booklet she forged, she said she hid it in a safe place.

Zhang Changnian was terrified that such a big thing had happened after his last visit.

But thinking about Ye Weiwei's handling of the situation, he couldn't help but feel gratified: "You've done a great job coming up with such an idea in such a short time. Leave the rest to your uncle. Just destroy that booklet and tell everyone that I took it with me."

He hadn't expected Weiwei to have such a good memory. She had found that booklet when they moved a few years ago, and she had pestered him to teach her the secret code. It was amazing that she could remember it so clearly even though it happened so many years ago.

"Uncle, do you know who did it?"
