Chapter 55 Plague

Chapter 55 Plague

Xu Miaomiao looked at Gu Yuanniang with gratitude, then turned and left.

When we arrived at the man's house, we heard a violent cough from inside the house. The smell of herbs lingered everywhere and did not dissipate for a long time.

"Doctor Xu, please—"

Following the man's invitation gesture, Xu Miaomiao walked in.

The woman lay weakly on the bed, without a trace of blood on her face, and her haggard face made people feel very distressed.

Perhaps it was the cool breeze that came in when the door was opened, the woman started coughing violently again as soon as she lay down.

Xu Miaomiao didn't care about anything else and started to take the woman's pulse while pinching her nose.

Xu Miaomiao was a little surprised when she heard the weak pulse beating. It was indeed the plague as she expected. Perhaps it was because the man was stronger that he was not infected.

"Doctor Xu, what disease does my wife have?" The man asked carefully, with some urgency in his eyes when he looked at Xu Miaomiao.

Xu Miaomiao called the man outside, then she removed her veil, looked at the man and said, "It's a plague."

The man was shocked and looked at Xu Miaomiao in disbelief: "How could this be, Doctor Xu, this can't be true."

Xu Miaomiao sighed helplessly. In this era, being infected with the plague was basically a death sentence, but she could only nod.

Suddenly, a pungent smell came. Xu Miaomiao followed the smell to the well and found that the water at the bottom of the well was pitch black, even darker than the last time she saw at Erbao's place.

"Has the water always been this color?" Xu Miaomiao asked.

The man thought for a while, counting the days with his fingers: "No, no, no, it seems to have started like this three days ago. I thought it was nothing and didn't pay much attention to it. Who knew it would emit a foul smell later, just like now."

"Okay, I got it." Xu Miaomiao nodded and packed up her medicine box: "Take me to a few other places to have a look, maybe there will be some clues."

The man nodded, carried Xu Miaomiao to the door of another family, and pointed to the yard inside: "This is it, Doctor Xu, I won't go in."

The man spoke a little embarrassedly. If it was really a plague, he would be afraid too.

Xu Miaomiao nodded and knocked on the door alone.

“Dangdangdang—”

"Who is it?" A weak girl's voice came, and she was coughing while speaking.

"I'm a doctor. I heard someone in your family is sick, so I came to see you."

I only heard a heavy sigh, and the woman said, "Go away, we have no money."

Xu Miaomiao was stunned and quickly explained: "This is a free clinic, it's free."

As soon as she heard this, the door opened the next second, and she saw a woman with a red face, coughing non-stop, with a crying child in her arms.

Xu Miaomiao walked in slowly and saw a man lying on the bed. He looked pale and didn't seem to have much time left.

Xu Miaomiao did not dare to delay and immediately took out the silk thread to take the pulse.

The situation is the same as the previous one, so it's probably a plague.

Xu Miaomiao shook her head and could only take out some herbs from the space and handed them to the woman: "Drink it first, it may not be effective but it can delay for a while."

Seeing the herbalist was so excited that she almost knelt down, she looked at Xu Miaomiao with gratitude in her eyes: "Thank you, thank you."

Xu Miaomiao felt a pang of bitterness in her heart. She helped the woman up, looked at her and said, "No need to thank me. Can you show me your well?"

The woman nodded and led Xu Miaomiao to the back room.

Looking at the color at the bottom of the well, Xu Miaomiao was shocked. Although there was no stench like before, the gray-black color still exposed the characteristics of problematic water.

Along the way, Xu Miaomiao seemed to be thinking about something. It was obvious that there was something wrong with the water at the bottom of the well. Was there something wrong with the river that led into the well, or was there something brought down into the water?

When she thought of this, Xu Miaomiao was shocked. It was Wang Xing'er who drugged her family's well. Fortunately, she discovered it early.

If there is a problem at the bottom of the well, then my home...

Xu Miaomiao didn't dare to think any further and ran towards her home without stopping.

After returning home and seeing Erbao and Xiaobao playing in the yard as usual, Song Wushao sat on the stone table and read his books before he breathed a sigh of relief.

As soon as I entered the room, I saw Gu Yuanniang cooking.

"Sixth Lady, where is Weiwei?"

Gu Yuanniang looked at Xu Miaomiao, tasting the saltiness of the dishes with a spoon, and responded: "You are talking about Weiwei, she went to her neighbor's house for dinner."

"Eat?" Xu Miaomiao frowned. Why did she always have a bad feeling?

"Which one did you go to?"

"It's her best friend." Gu Yuanniang replied to Xu Miaomiaomiao's question: "It's Wang Buyi's house next door."

When Xu Miaomiao heard this, she hurried to the next room to pull Song Weiwei back.

As soon as I entered the door, I saw Song Weiwei holding a pastry and preparing to eat it.

"Miao Miao, do you want to eat something together?"

Wang Buyi warmly invited Xu Miaomiao, but Xu Miaomiao had no intention of talking to them at this moment. She quickly slapped the pastry out of Song Weiwei's hand.

Song Weiwei looked at the cakes distressedly and said to Xu Miaomiao dissatisfiedly: "Xu Miaomiao, what do you want!"

"Come with me home." Xu Miaomiao had no time to explain and just wanted to take Xu Song Weiwei away first.

"I'm not going. I'll just eat here."

"Weiwei! Stop being so petty." Xu Miaomiao scolded, and Song Weiwei stopped.

Before leaving, Xu Miaomiao looked back at the table full of dishes and said, "The flu is rampant recently, so it's better not to use the water from the well."

When they got home, Song Weiwei pushed Xu Miaomiao's hand away in dissatisfaction and looked at her in dissatisfaction: "Why don't you let me eat?"

"Weiwei, I was on duty today and found several families suffering from the flu, coughing and fever. I suspect it's the plague."

"Is it really a plague?" Hearing Xu Miaomiao's words, Gu Yuan's mother came out with a spoon.

Xu Miaomiao nodded solemnly, and took Gu Yuanniang and Song Weiwei to look at the well in her own home.

Sure enough, it was black.

Gu Yuanniang was a little puzzled: "This is strange. When I was scooping water for cooking just now, it was normal. How come it changed color all of a sudden?"

"Sixth Lady, thank you for your hard work." Xu Miaomiao said solemnly: "Today's dishes must be redone, using the water in that jar."

As she spoke, Xu Miaomiao pointed to a water tank in the distance. That was the spring water in her space. It not only could improve immunity, but most importantly, it was relatively clean.

Gu Yuanniang nodded and looked at Xu Miaomiao: "Don't worry, I will pay attention."

"And Weiwei, you should stay at home recently. You are not allowed to go there either. The same goes for Erbao and Xiaobao."

"I understand, mother."

Erbao looked at Xu Miaomiao with a sweet smile.

Xu Miaomiao shifted her gaze to Song Wushao standing beside her, only to see the man frowning and nodding stiffly.

"Tomorrow I will go talk to Lan Yinxuguo from the restaurant and buy some things while I'm there. You guys should get some rest early."

"Yeah." Gu Yuan's mother nodded.
