Chapter 0044 Madness

Chapter 0044 Madness

The machine produced an inspection report, a thin sheet of paper, which Ruyi held in her hand.

The waiting process is long, but knowing the conclusion only requires a quick glance, less than a tenth of a second.

Chen Yan, who was by his side, also saw the conclusion and immediately beamed with joy.

But soon, his unusually bright smile froze on his face, because Ruyi's hand holding the report began to tremble, and her eyes were filled with hatred as she looked up at him. Even the torrent of tears could not diminish this hatred in the slightest.

All his previous beautiful plans were shattered instantly by Ruyi's expression. After a brief moment of stunned silence, he came to his senses, and his gentle expression gradually turned stern.

Ruyi turned to go downstairs, but Chen Yan grabbed her and asked in a low, somewhat fierce voice, "Where are you going?" He knew the answer already.

Ruyi closed her eyes, and two lines of clear tears slowly slid down her cheeks. When she opened them again, her moist, tearful eyes were filled with resolute ruthlessness.

She met Chen Yan's gaze defiantly, speaking each word clearly and without room for negotiation: "I'm going to get rid of it!"

Having something in mind is one thing, but hearing such cruel and heartless words from her own mouth is quite another. Chen Yan felt as if he had been struck on the head, and his tall and upright body even struggled to stand.

Ruyi seized the opportunity to break free, took the escalator downstairs, clutching the report tightly in her hand, thinking that if everything went smoothly, she could enter the operating room that afternoon.

Chen Yan strode up to Ruyi on the escalator, ignoring her desperate struggles and pulling her tightly into his arms, his expression icy. Reaching the second floor, he continued to force Ruyi downstairs with him without stopping for even a second.

Unable to break free, Ruyi's long-suppressed anger, grievances, resentment, shame, and many other emotions erupted. Exhausted, she collapsed into Chen Yan's arms, tears streaming down her face, and cried out in despair, "Let me go!" Her cry was like that of a wild beast in dire straits, its life hanging by a thread, drawing the attention of passersby.

Upon seeing this, the security guard on patrol on the first floor and his companion came up to inquire about the situation.

Chen Yan smiled apologetically: "My wife just found out she's pregnant, but she argued with me and threatened to abort the child. I took her home to calm down."

The security guard glanced at the two men, one dressed impeccably and calmly carrying his wife's bag without a care for his image, the other emotionally distraught, tears streaming down his face, his hair and clothes disheveled from the struggle, his neck and the area around his eyes bloodshot and red, which matched Chen Yan's description.

The security guard naturally chose to believe Chen Yan and kindly advised Ruyi: "Husbands and wives shouldn't hold grudges overnight. Besides, no matter how much you argue, the child is innocent. Don't regret it for the rest of your life just for a moment of pleasure!"

Chen Yan smiled gratefully at the security guard and half-dragged, half-carried Ruyi away from the hospital.

He was afraid of hurting her if he used too much force, but he was also afraid that he wouldn't be able to control her if he didn't use enough force. His muscles were tense, and he carefully controlled his strength. By the time he finally got into the car, Chen Yan was covered in sweat. His shirt was soaked with sweat and clung to his skin, making him look a little disheveled.

The car doors had already been locked, and no matter how Ruyi tried to pry open the door handles or frantically press the buttons on the center console, the passenger door remained firmly shut, as if it had been welded shut.

Chen Yan ignored her series of actions and fastened her seatbelt, bringing the two of them very close together.

After fastening his seatbelt, Chen Yan did not straighten his body. Instead, he maintained his original posture, gazing intently at Ruyi with deep and focused eyes, as if trying to see into the depths of her soul.

"Can we have a proper talk?" When someone who is high and mighty lowers their noble head and pleads for mercy in a begging tone, even the most hard-hearted person will be moved.

But Ruyi was clearly not among them. She looked away, her expression still indifferent, but she had temporarily given up on finding a way to unlock the door.

Chen Yan couldn't help but reach out and stroke her disheveled hair, almost concentrating all the tenderness in his life into this moment: "Give birth to it, okay?"

Ruyi replied with empty eyes, "It's not yours. It's from my affair with someone else."

Chen Yan smiled bitterly: "Don't talk nonsense." Just how much did she hate him that she was willing to say such hurtful things to get rid of him?

His certainty infuriated Ruyi. Yes, she was really stupid, so stupid that even after he had married someone else, she was still devoted to him. Not only him, but his family, Hao Jing, his aunt... everyone who knew them knew that this fool was determined to marry no one but him.

Overwhelming shame once again engulfed her.

"What right do you have to demand that I give birth to it? Do you deserve it?" Stared at by her venomous gaze, Chen Yan had never felt so helpless and insignificant. Despair and anger made him roar, "You can't decide alone, I'm its father!"

Ruyi scoffed as if she'd heard the biggest joke in the world, her words vicious: "How dare you even mention that word? Why don't you look in the mirror and see if you're worthy? If you want to be a father, go find your wife and have her! You've already turned me into a complete joke, and now you want my child to be ridiculed along with me? You idiot, scum, you piece of trash!"

Ruyi thought she would feel better after scolding her, but for some reason, every word felt like shards of glass piercing her heart, causing a lingering pain, and tears involuntarily streamed down her face.

Chen Yan let her sob beside him and quickly started the car.

Ruyi cried for a while, then rubbed her eyes and realized that the street scene outside the window was unfamiliar; Chen Yan wasn't going to take her home.

"Where...are you taking me? Stop the car!" She pounded on the car window in vain.

Chen Yan ignored him and focused on the road conditions.

Ruyi pushed him, pulled his hair, scratched his face, and even tried to grab the steering wheel like a madwoman. Chen Yan remained unmoved, letting several bright red marks appear on his face. He still held the steering wheel firmly, and even when turning, he didn't hesitate at all.

As the car successfully entered the city's main road, and the blue road sign indicated that the road led to the western suburbs of Lancheng, Ruyi suddenly calmed down and stopped her pointless attack on Chen Yan.

Chen Yan thought she had given up. Ignoring the minor injuries on his face and body, he glanced at the passenger seat. That glance almost made him lose his mind.

It turned out that Ruyi hadn't given up. Instead, she silently lowered the passenger window, unbuckled her seatbelt, turned to the side, and held onto the bottom edge of the window with both hands. Her expression was resolute, as if she would rather jump out of the window and die.

Chen Yan was so frightened that his heart almost stopped. He immediately turned on his hazard lights, slowed down, and pulled over to the side of the road.

Before the car had even come to a complete stop, Ruyi pulled open the door, got out, crossed the central median strip, and ran across the road without stopping.

Chen Yan slammed the car door shut and chased after them relentlessly. One after another, the fast-moving vehicles on the four parallel westbound lanes were forced to stop abruptly, and many drivers rolled down their windows and cursed at the two men.

"You crazy woman, you filthy scoundrel, if you want to die, go home and die! The sooner you die, the better! Don't run around on the street and cause trouble for others!"

Chen Yan couldn't hear the angry shouts at all. It felt like dozens of little people were clamoring in his head. A vein bulged from his eyebrow to his temple. When he finally reached the sidewalk with Ruyi in his arms, his senses gradually returned. He recalled the terrifying scene on the road just now. A gray SUV suddenly braked and was less than 20 centimeters away from Ruyi. He belatedly felt hot all over and his legs went weak.

His face was extremely gloomy. He gripped Ruyi's shoulder and asked in a cold voice, "Are you out of your mind?!"

Ruyi's bangs were disheveled and stuck to her forehead with sweat, making her look extremely disheveled, but her expression was unusually calm, as if she wasn't the one who had just brushed past death.

She stared at Chen Yan, her tone cold and resolute, but the corners of her mouth curled up slightly as she finally found Chen Yan's Achilles' heel: "That's right, if you force me to give birth to it again, I will die."

Chen Yan was deeply stung by that smile. Just how intense was her hatred that she spoke of death as casually as eating and drinking?

Extreme pain breeds extreme madness. Chen Yan clutches his head, letting out a hoarse roar like a trapped beast on the verge of death. When he looks up again, his eyes are bloodshot, and he nods to Ruyi: "Fine, you want to die, right? I'll go with you!!!"

After saying that, he rushed towards the main road without any regard for anything else. His movements were quick and ruthless, without any hesitation. He had been pushed to the breaking point by Ruyi's ruthlessness over this period of time. At this moment, he really wanted to just end it all. What family responsibility, what ideals and affection, to hell with them all! Even if the world were to end the next second, let alone his own death, as long as he could bring back two sad tears from his beloved, he would feel no regret.

Ruyi deeply resented Chen Yan, hated his betrayal, and hated even more his relentless entanglement after the betrayal. But she wasn't about to stand by and watch him die. When she saw him rush to the middle of the road, northbound vehicles whizzing past, leaving behind a string of piercing horns and curses, her heart pounded violently. Overwhelmed, she collapsed to the ground, tears streaming down her face, crying out, "Come back... I promise you, I promise you, isn't that enough..."

Chen Yan felt as if he had received an imperial edict, or as if a condemned prisoner about to be executed had suddenly been granted a general amnesty. His withered soul was nourished by spring rain and rejuvenated.

He ran back to Ruyi's side, his eyes moist, but he smiled contentedly and said, "You still can't bear to part with me, can you?"

Ruyi was still in shock when he held her tightly in his arms, tears streaming down her face, quickly soaking her eyelashes.

Chen Yan gently kissed away the tears, then helped Ruyi up and carefully protected her. Taking advantage of the temporary absence of cars on the road, he took her back to the car. Ruyi remained silent and motionless throughout the entire process, without making any struggle.

Having narrowly escaped death, Chen Yan drove away, his back drenched in cold sweat. The more he thought about it, the more frightened he became. In his emotional state, he hadn't considered the consequences. Fortunately, despite his despair, he retained a sliver of rationality and stood on the solid yellow line. While it's possible some drivers violated the rules, this objectively reduced the probability of an accident significantly.

Why should he die? He wouldn't die. Not only would he not die, but he would live a carefree and unrestrained life, one day marrying Ruyi forever, living a long and healthy life with many children and grandchildren, making the world envious of him and Ruyi. How could he die? Fortunately, Ruyi stopped him in time. Otherwise, given the speed of those cars, even if he didn't die, he might have lost an arm or a leg, living a miserable life, even worse than death.

A fright forced out the last bit of care Ruyi had for him, and Chen Yan, who had been ignored for so long, felt it was all worth it.

However, he also understood that Ruyi was only temporarily intimidated and had no choice but to compromise. Once she came to her senses, she would most likely still cause trouble. He had to find a way to restrain her, otherwise, the incident of jumping out of the car today might be repeated, or she might try to jump off a building, jump into a river, hang herself, or cut her wrists... He couldn't afford for her to improvise again and again.

He had secretly vowed never to pressure her again, but in the end, things still came to this.
