Chapter 299 The Vampire's Window
Saintess Heatherine and Qin Mo talked for a long time, which was very rare. She actually didn't like communicating with people. In the past, when Qin Mo saw her in the temple, she was almost always alone in a corner, lost in thought. Occasionally, she would ask a few necessary questions, answering the doubts of a few cultivators.
This in-depth conversation gave Qin Mo a basic understanding of vampires and provided her with some preparations and precautions for possible encounters with them in the future.
"Do vampires only come out at night? Do they like to sleep in coffins?"
To Qin Mo's various curious questions, Saintess Heatherine once again revealed a disdainful expression, "I really don't know what you do all day long. As the son of Saint Qin Lan, you haven't even learned basic knowledge. Do you only know how to enjoy yourself all day long?"
Qin Mo genuinely didn't know. No one had explained the knowledge of vampires to him. Both Lin Bo and Allen assumed Qin Mo knew, but he hadn't inherited any fragments of memories about vampires. Furthermore, vampires were too far removed from the Great Xia Dynasty; ordinary people simply didn't know their secrets.
The fact that pure-blooded vampires can walk in sunlight overturned Qin Mo's understanding of vampires. Those vampires who preferred dark and damp places were considered to be of impure bloodlines and lower ranks. However, regardless of whether they were high-ranking vampires or mixed-race vampires who had been bitten, they all preferred darkness, disliked sunlight, and feared the light.
The reason why the vampires do not welcome people from the Temple is because of "Holy Light". Holy Light is the transformation of the power of the Holy Spirit into a unique light, which is also a unique method of the Temple. When Qin Mo fought against Morse and Bashir, both of them emitted strong Holy Light.
Qin Mo considered this a kind of holy light with cool sound and light effects, but it was an extremely powerful killing method for vampires, which would cause fatal damage to them.
"If you're planning to seek out vampires to repair your weapons, it's best not to wear the temple's monk robes. Considering you're preparing to hunt orcs, I can forgive your actions." When they saw the walls of Liechtenstein, Saintess Heatherine offered Qin Mo a suggestion. As she made this suggestion, Qin Mo noticed her furrowed brows; she clearly loathed these alien races.
Before the Millennium Covenant, Liechtenstein was just two small noble territories of the Kingdom of Austria. After the vampires established their own sphere of influence, these two territories became the forefront of contact between the vampires and the Western Continent.
So the Temple, behind the scenes, instructed the Austrian king to merge the two territories and bestow them upon a man of unknown origin, who became known as the Duke of Liechtenstein.
Whether the Duke of Liechtenstein was a spy for the Temple is impossible to verify due to the passage of time, but the city of Liechtenstein he built has transformed from a bridgehead for monitoring vampires into a special zone where humans and vampires coexist.
After Qin Mo entered the city, he saw many special men and women. They all had fair skin, handsome appearance, and were either slender or tall and thin. They were all dressed in neat and clean clothes, completely different from the unshaven, dirty, and tattered Westerners around him.
"They are all blood servants, humans bitten by vampires. Although they gained a beautiful appearance through the so-called 'holy embrace,' they have fallen into the abyss of sin. They must drink hot blood regularly to avoid going mad. Vampires are truly an evil race."
Seeing Qin Mo constantly scrutinizing those people with unusual appearances, Kelly quickly explained things to him to prevent him from being misled by their beautiful looks.
Qin Mo was indeed a little confused. Judging from their clothes, appearance, and behavior, the vampires were neater and more polite than ordinary Westerners, or rather, more like... civilized people.
The pedestrians on the street were clearly divided into several different groups based on their clothing and behavior. Those who were polite and whose clothes were embroidered with different patterns were obviously the "blood servants" that Kelly had mentioned.
Some people dressed as commoners would instinctively shrink back when they saw these blood servants. Only when they couldn't avoid them would they carefully bow and greet them. The blood servants, on the other hand, would basically ignore them, occasionally nodding at them with an arrogant demeanor.
Others, who looked more like ordinary people, resembled believers in the temple. They would bow their heads in reverence when they saw the cross-shaped markings on Qin Mo and the others' robes.
There were also some people who were clearly businessmen, dressed in various styles of clothing. Qin Mo even saw a few people with yellow skin, which were unique to the people of Daxia.
There were no branch temples of the Temple in Liechtenstein, so Qin Mo and the others had to find their own accommodations. Even a powerful force like the Temple couldn't ignore the feelings of a powerful race; building their temple right on the doorstep of the vampires was tantamount to a direct provocation.
The temple robes worn by Qin Mo and the others were very conspicuous in the city. Whether it was the conspicuous vampire servants or the ignorant human civilians, they were all surprised by their behavior of openly wearing temple robes.
Heatherine had clearly been to this peculiar city before. She led the group on horseback through the streets, drawing both awe and hostility in their eyes, until they finally entered a street in the west of the city and stopped in front of a small inn.
"Honorable guest, please follow me." The innkeeper immediately came out to greet Qin Mo and his companions upon seeing them. Judging from his attentive attitude, he was clearly a devout follower of the Holy See.
"Where did old Henry go?" The saintess asked casually after entering the room and glancing at the young man behind the bar.
“Honorable guests, my father passed away two years ago, and I am now in charge of this place,” the young man replied respectfully, noticing the crosses on everyone’s bodies.
“Oh! Old Henry was a good man; his soul will return to the light.” Heather took out a golden symbol and waved it in front of the young man, saying, “Seven people, four rooms.”
