Chapter 334 The Veil
"If I can go and keep Ms. Thea company, I can accept this task."
Elder Rhine was relieved to hear that Saintess Heatherine had agreed, though he was not entirely happy about it.
But Heatherine then gave a mocking look and said coldly, "But you've probably forgotten one thing: Qin Mo has elven blood. He's only interested in beautiful things, and his discerning eye might not appreciate my appearance."
Saint Heather removed her veil and the delicate half-mask, revealing a strange face.
Her face was originally beautiful, with smooth, jade-like skin, a straight nose, and delicate lips, but five hideous scars ruined this once perfect face.
Her fair, jade-like skin was twisted and rolled up by five finger marks, revealing her nasal bone and a gap in her lips that showed off her white teeth.
Heatherine's pearly white teeth parted as she sneered, "Do you think I can get Qin Mo to willingly hand over a weapon that could decide the outcome of the battle?"
Elder Rhine suddenly felt a chill. Heather's appearance might only make him feel sorry for her, but her obviously out-of-control emotions made Elder Rhine feel dangerous. Heather's face was a taboo in the temple. When she lifted her veil, no one knew how crazy she would become.
“Heather, you are the purest person in the temple, and the one closest to the light. Your position in the temple determines your attractiveness to men, which is incomparable to those women who only have beautiful appearances.”
"Heatherine, as long as you open your heart and mind to someone, no matter who they are, they will fall under your charm."
As Elder Rhine spoke, a sacred light appeared on his face. "Even if you are disfigured, you are still the purest woman. It is only right for Qin Mo to give anything for you. As a saintess and a meritorious servant of the temple, you will be admired and respected by everyone!"
Heather listened quietly to Elder Rhine's story, then slowly put her mask back on. The veil covered her entire face again, hiding her heart deep within her body.
You disgust me!
Elder Rhine watched Heather's indignant departure, his face grim. He muttered to himself, "Disgusting? You've been in the Temple for so many years, and you still feel disgusted? How naive!"
Wei Tao left the council hall and headed towards Qin Mo's residence. He had no intention of following Worsnell's advice not to tell Qin Mo the truth. He was a citizen of Great Xia, and he had to stand by Qin Mo's side no matter what, even if High Priest Worsnell indicated that he should not make things worse.
"General Wei, please wait a moment!"
Wei Tao heard someone call him, stopped and turned around, and saw a tall, strong, black-haired young man quickly catching up with him.
"What business do you have with me? Are you... a Venetian?"
Wei Tao looked at the young man with suspicion. Judging from his clothes, the young man was a member of the Venice Silver Daisy Knights, but he sensed that the young man's aura was "vital energy," which puzzled Wei Tao.
"My name is Tang Bailong. My ancestors were from the Great Xia Dynasty. Later, I stayed in Venice for my mother. Are you looking for Princess Qin Mo?"
"Yes, Brother Tang, what advice do you have for me?"
Upon hearing that Tang Bailong was Hou Yi of the Great Xia, Wei Tao immediately understood. Over the years, many soldiers like himself from the Great Xia expeditionary force had remained in the Western Continent; some had died, some had been wounded, and some had become disabled. He had brought two thousand men to the Western Continent this time, but he didn't know how many he could bring back.
Tang Bailong gestured for him to enter and said, "Let's talk as we walk! I also greatly admire Princess Qin Mo and was just about to pay her a visit."
The two walked together, and people frequently cast scrutinizing glances at them.
“Brother Tang, I’m not exactly well-liked by these Westerners right now. If you’re with me, it might be bad for you.”
Tang Bailong waved his hand, ignoring the gazes of those people, "General Wei, you have just arrived in Xizhou and do not understand the way the people of Xizhou behave. They only care about interests and do not distinguish between friend and foe. As long as there is profit to be made, enemies can become friends tomorrow, and conversely, friends can stab you in the back."
"The Lionheart Knights of the Saxons are notoriously arrogant in the Western Continent. People don't really like them. Everything that happened at the meeting just now was just people agreeing casually. They wouldn't dare to mess with you without any benefit to them, and of course, they wouldn't dare to mess with me either!" Although Tang Bailong was young, he had a strong sense of arrogance and spoke with an air of commanding authority.
"You were in a meeting just now, please forgive my poor eyesight for not seeing you! My apologies!"
"General Wei is joking. My current cultivation level is only at the Yellow Realm, and I'm just on temporary assignment in the Silver Daisy Knights. My uncle is the commander of the Knights, and he told me what happened at the meeting," Tang Bailong said, his face slightly red and somewhat embarrassed.
Wei Tao didn't say anything more. They were about to reach Qin Mo's residence when they arrived. Tang Bailong seemed to want to say something several times along the way, but then stopped himself.
Wei Tao, who had been navigating the officialdom of Daxia for over a decade, had some guesses from Tang Bailong's hesitant expression. "Is there anything your uncle asked you to convey to me?"
Tang Bailong was pondering how to start the conversation when Wei Tao took the initiative and immediately chimed in, "My uncle said that if General Wei doesn't mind, would you be willing to form an alliance with our Silver Daisy Knights, so that our warriors can advance and retreat together and look out for each other?"
