Chapter 441 You Are Not the Same as Your Father
In the early morning, the capital of the Great Xia Dynasty was like a giant beast yawning, half asleep and half awake.
The crowds gathered from the entire empire were the nourishment this behemoth needed. As the thirteen gates of the imperial capital opened, merchants who had been waiting outside the city for a long time began to enter one by one. They brought noise and commotion to the city, waking up the lazy natives of the imperial capital. The behemoth was finally stimulated and awakened.
Xuanwen Gate is the city gate located on the east side of the capital. A road leads directly to Tongxian County from outside the gate. Since the Empress paid for the entire road to be paved with solid cement a few years ago, Xuanwen Gate has become the busiest passage in the vicinity.
Although many people entered the city, they were all very orderly, queuing in order on the right and leaving the left side for those leaving. Even though very few people were leaving in the early morning, no one dared to overstep the rules. These were rules that the guards had established over the years with the hilts of their swords.
At first, the soldiers didn't understand the "keep to the right" rule that originated from the high-ranking official. But after they understood the rules, they felt the benefits. In the past, when things were busy, the city gate was often congested, and shouting themselves hoarse was useless. But now they can just leisurely drink tea at the city gate, and the merchants will line up to pay the city gate tax on their own.
"Damn, those big shots are so clever. This cement...this chair...this rule...tsk tsk!"
Liu Wu, the gatekeeper of Xuanwen Gate, lay comfortably on a large rattan chair, burping contentedly as he watched a steady stream of people hand over money to his subordinates. He pondered how much he should give to his superiors this month. The lucrative position at Xuanwen Gate was higher than that of the other gates combined; it wasn't a coveted job that just anyone could get, and it required keen insight.
Liu Wu's eyesight was indeed excellent; he spotted a group of knights preparing to leave the city from a great distance, and the leader was none other than the top military figure of the Great Xia Dynasty—Prince Qin Mu of Yan.
"Your subordinate greets Your Highness, Prince Yan!"
Liu Wu swept the rattan chair into the corner, stood up straight, and gave a perfectly standard military salute, remaining unmoved despite the dust kicked up by the horse's hooves.
Liu Wu watched as Qin Mu and the others stopped not far from Xuanwen Gate, standing by the roadside with solemn expressions, gazing into the distance as if waiting for someone.
"Hiss! ... Boss, who is worthy of His Highness Prince Yan personally coming out of the city to greet him?"
Liu Wu saluted in front, and his men naturally followed suit, all craning their necks in curiosity.
"How would I know who it is? But whoever it is, they're big shots we can't afford to mess with. Get the hell out of here, tell those two who took the money to watch their hands and let them in right now..."
A group of soldiers immediately adopted their most approachable demeanor, mediating the disputes among the merchants who were arguing over cutting in line. They even helped an old, mangy donkey pull a cart for half a day, quickly clearing out the long queue outside the city.
If Qin Mo were to see this scene, she would surely leave them with a calligraphy piece that reads "People's Servant".
Unfortunately, when Qin Mo and Allen arrived at Xuanwen Gate, they did not see the people's servants, but only the solemn-faced Prince Yan, Qin Mu.
"Haha! Uncle, you're standing here so early, which distinguished guest are you welcoming?"
Qin Mo spurred his horse forward, dismounted first, and paid his respects to Prince Qin Mu of Yan with the courtesy due to a junior. Then, with a grin, he moved closer to him.
"I'm welcoming you, my distinguished guest! You've really grown up, kid! How dare you joke with your uncle like that!"
"This humble one greets Uncle. Uncle personally came out to greet me. This humble nephew is overwhelmed with gratitude!" Qin Mo repeated the greeting, his movements perfectly standard.
"Hmm, at least you know some manners. Alright, this is none of your business. I need to have a chat with your sworn brother!"
King Qin Mu of Yan waved Qin Mo away, his eyes flashing like lightning as he looked at the great elf.
"Lord Allen, I, Qin, am here to congratulate you on your advancement to the Saint level. May I ask what brings you to the capital this time?"
"Thank you, Your Highness. I have nothing to do, so I came out with Xiao Mo for a walk, to see the scenery and have a little fight. It's better than being bored in a high-ranking official's office."
"Lord Allen, who do you intend to fight? Your status is different now; you must think carefully before making any decision!"
"Your Highness Yan is overthinking it. I just haven't found an opponent to prove myself since I became a Saint. I'm just itching for a fight. I'm not looking for anyone to fight or duel."
Qin Mu's imposing body tensed and relaxed twice before he finally said, "Very good. If anyone dies, I will definitely come looking for him."
After Qin Mo finished speaking with Allen, he turned to Qin Mo and teased, "Someone has their eye on your things this time. If you're going to flip the table, tell your uncle in advance so I can avoid them."
"Uncle, if your nephew is being bullied, aren't you going to roll up your sleeves and fight alongside me? How can you hide from me?"
Qin Mu's square face twisted in pain: "Qin Mo, you are really different from your father!"
"Oh! I also think I'm way more handsome than my dad! Hehehe!"
"No, your father is a man of his word. You may have a handsome face, but you're a scoundrel inside and out!"
"uncle......"
"Alright! You're young, so it's fine for you to act tough a little, but I'm too old to get involved in this mess with you!"
"Let's go!" Qin Mu spurred his horse and rode away.
"Uncle, please take care. I will remember your kindness and bring you some wine another day!"
Qin Mo watched Qin Mu walk away, feeling genuinely grateful. Although he said he would never interfere, the fact that he came to the city to greet her, given his status, was a silent expression of his attitude.
