Chapter 380 Heatherine, corrupted by the tide
"I have no intention of becoming a saintess anymore. You should let that little girl continue to comprehend the light!"
Heatherine left after saying just one sentence, showing no respect to Ashiff and the others.
Now that she has revealed her strength, she cannot afford to lose face. The dignity of a super-level expert does not allow her to accommodate anyone, except for one person, of course!
Deep within the ancient hall of the temple, a long silence fell, and a suffocating atmosphere enveloped the four council elders, whose mere stomp of their feet could shake the entire Western Continent.
"Elder, what should we do? The one who controls the light is not the Holy Maiden of the Temple... Is there really such a ridiculous thing?" After a long silence, Sif, disregarding everyone's grim expressions, was the first to raise the question.
“Sif, we should be coming up with a solution now, instead of spouting these useless accusations and complaints!” Paige leaned back, looking up at the candle holder on the ceiling, her eyes unfocused and her voice weak.
"A solution? What other solution is there? When I vehemently opposed it a few days ago, did you even listen to my opinion?" Sif was furious. It was these two people's insistence on punishing Heather that led to the current situation.
"This isn't our fault. Heather was indeed 'impure,' so it was normal for us to make that decision. As for now... damn it... who could have imagined this!"
Although Charles's complexion had returned to normal, the fear and frustration in his heart could not be eliminated in a short time. He was now filled with resentment, resenting why Heather specifically targeted him. He had no recollection of how arrogant he had been just moments before.
"Charles, it's all because of the two of you. You need to step in and resolve this!"
"Why blame us? It was the elders' council that passed the resolution in the first place..."
"Bang bang bang!"
Ashiff slammed his hand on the table, silencing the three arguing people. Now he had to come up with a solution to dispel Heather's resentment towards the Elders.
"Since she is unwilling to continue being a saintess, let's refrain from taking any action for the time being, lest we anger her again!"
"Then send a messenger to Riga Fortress to ask Rhine what happened to Heatherine in the north. I need to know everything that happened to her during this time!"
Asif knew about Heather's previous strength; she was still quite a bit weaker than Charles, let alone himself. He really couldn't understand why her strength had suddenly increased so dramatically. Even an "enlightenment" couldn't be this abnormal!
After Ashiff spoke, the group stopped arguing and got up to leave. They needed to hurry back and adjust their plans, and they absolutely could not give Heather any more provocation.
...This could really kill someone!
Ashif led the way out, and as soon as he stepped out of the temple gate, he saw two holy servants leading a Templar Knight with a face full of sweat waiting there. Judging from the Knight's insignia, he was from the Riga defense zone and was obviously a messenger sent from the front.
"What's the matter? Have the orcs at the front made any moves?"
Ashif immediately became serious. A few days ago, the orcs had mysteriously tightened their defenses, and he couldn't tell whether the orcs and the Rakshasa were really fighting amongst themselves. He had been waiting for definite news these past few days.
"Your Excellency Elder Ashif, I am Huen, Elder Rhine's attendant. I am here to deliver a message for Elder Rhine. As for the situation at the front, I am unaware of it!"
"Elder Rhine ordered me to deliver this overnight, and it must be handed over to the Grand Elder." Hu En took out a metal scroll from his pocket and handed it to Ashif with both hands.
Ashif examined the special markings on the scroll before opening it and looking at it carefully.
Gradually, people sensed a violently fluctuating aura, which came from Elder Ashif.
Ashif has always remained calm even in the face of a collapsing mountain. No matter how critical the situation is, he will not panic or lose his composure.
"Elder, Elder Rhine...is there something important?" Sif was closest to Ashif, but she couldn't peek at the contents of the scroll, so she asked cautiously.
"Alas! If this letter had arrived sooner, we might have made fewer mistakes!" Ashif narrowed his eyes, suppressed his aura, and then passed the scroll to the others.
“Respected Elder Ashif, I… have barely rested along the way…” Hu En was immediately frightened upon hearing Ashif’s words and began to explain incessantly.
"It's not your fault, Hu En. You must be tired from traveling such a long way. Go and rest! Remember... don't tell anyone about what happened today!" Ashif waved wearily, letting Hu En leave first, otherwise he would definitely be blamed by Charles and the others later.
"Damn it! We set off at the same time, so why did that knight take so long to deliver the letter? Heather has been back for six days already!"
Sure enough, Charles roared immediately after reading the scroll. He found a scapegoat for his mistake. If Elder Rhine's letter had been delivered earlier, he would never have treated Heather so arrogantly.
"Elder Ashif... Is everything in this letter true?" Sif was the last to read the letter, and her breathing was also somewhat unsteady.
“The secret mark is fine, and I recognize Ryan’s handwriting. Sigh… the vampires who have been lying dormant for thousands of years are probably about to become restless.” Ashif’s eyebrows furrowed, making his wrinkles appear even deeper.
"Although Isabel, the Controller of Darkness, defeated Rhine, our Controller of Light, Heather, also repelled Isabel! Our Temple is still the most powerful, and victory will ultimately belong to our Temple!" Page's righteous and impassioned words almost moved Charles and Sif to tears.
