Chapter 374 The Saintess with Arms Crossed
The moon rose again, casting its light on Elisa's white robe, giving it a sacred feel.
She had already made up her mind. Now that she, the pure and holy one, had been placed in this position, she could treat Princess Heatherine, who was "impure," with complete equality.
Elisa mustered her courage and worked hard for a long time to convince herself of her guilt towards her former idol and to build up her confidence in equality. She was just waiting for Heatherine to come to her door so she could show her her attitude.
But tonight, Elisa waited very late, until her hard-won calm turned into anxiety, but Heatherine still didn't come.
In the ancient temple deep within the Temple Mount, exquisite candle holders hung from the ceiling, their hundreds of candles shimmering and flickering, making the entire temple appear bright and sacred.
Four of the seven elders of the Temple Council were present. It was springtime, the season for waging war against the orcs. The other three Saint-level experts were stationed on the eastern front, so they only sent their trusted confidants to attend and listen.
They were waiting for someone who had arrived at the Temple Mount the previous night. However, the Elder Council had been divided on her fate, arguing for a whole day before finally summoning her to face her destiny.
After receiving a notice from the Temple Elders to convene a meeting, Heather canceled her plans to teach Elisa and instead went to her familiar, unassuming temple.
Heatherine calmly walked into the hall where the highest authority of the temple was located, and her expression immediately froze!
The council of elders consists of eight seats, including seven Saint-level experts and the Saintess. Four of them are already seated, while the other three seats are empty, with only three proxies standing behind their respective seats to indicate their presence.
There was no one else in the hall, nor were there any extra chairs.
The chair of the saint was no longer in the council of elders.
Heatherine's eyes remained cold and calm, but a raging fire was raging within her.
She was already one of the strongest people in the world. She returned to the temple with the intention of repaying a debt, or you could say she came to repay a debt of gratitude.
She could set aside the dignity of a top expert in front of the temple, but she could never tolerate the provocation and humiliation of the weak.
Heatherine slowly walked to her former seat, crossed her arms, and said, "Heh heh heh! Elder Ashif, are you trying to expel me from the Temple?"
Saint Heather, who was always outspoken, fair and impartial, spoke sarcastically in the council for the first time.
"Hatherine, where is this place? How can you speak to the Grand Elder like that?"
High Priest Charles was the first to jump up and shout angrily at Heather. Although he cursed her fiercely, he was actually overjoyed in his heart. "Foolish woman, your only support is Ashiff. Now you dare to criticize the Grand Elder. A commoner is a commoner. No matter how talented he is, he is still a fool."
"The Council of Elders cannot be slandered. Heather must be punished to uphold the dignity of the Temple!" The righteous Paladin Elder Page glared angrily at Heather.
"Bang bang bang!"
The old man in the tallest chair patted the table, silencing the entire room.
Elder Ashif said expressionlessly, "Heatherine, we all know about your contributions to the Temple, and I personally appreciate your efforts..."
"Alas!..." The old woman, who seemed on the verge of collapse, sighed and continued, "But the sacred light cannot be desecrated. Your current body is no longer suitable to serve as a saintess, so your position naturally needs to be revoked. I hope you can understand!"
Heather looked at the old man who had given her everything; he was so upright and so kind. She remembered his love and care for her, and his teachings.
But now it seems that Ashif cherishes the Temple, and in the face of the Temple's interests, everyone can be used as a bargaining chip to be exchanged or discarded.
"So what are you calling me here for today? Are you sending me to the stake?"
Looking at her dressed in a pure white robe, arms crossed, looking like a street thug ready to fight, everyone couldn't help but wonder if this was still the same Heather who was willing to dedicate her life to the Temple.
Heatherine learned this posture from Qin Mo. In a short period of time, Qin Mo had led the Holy Maiden astray, and she had unknowingly become a free woman with her own opinions, but she herself was unaware of it.
“Heatherine, don’t be like this. Things are not as bad as you think. The candidates for the saintess still need your guidance. That Great Xia man Qin…” The female knight Sif couldn’t stand it anymore and hurriedly spoke up to persuade Heatherine. She had already tried to persuade Heatherine during the day, but it was to no avail.
"Sif, the Grand Elder should make the decision on the specifics. Don't speak recklessly!" Paige, also a paladin, interrupted Sif from continuing. If she explained everything at once, the subsequent conversation would not achieve the desired effect.
Ashiff felt the urging gazes of Charles and Page. Their families had paid a heavy price for the new saintess, and they absolutely supported his new decision. Both for public and private reasons, they had to make the "right" decision.
"The Venetians are damn rich!" Ashif cursed inwardly, then looked at Heatherine, who had her arms crossed, and gave her an apologetic look.
“Heatherine, your… ‘impurity’… was caused by the Temple, so you will never be burned at the stake. If you do two things well, then your… sins will be forgiven by the gods, and you won’t even suffer the same fate as your teacher!”
