Chapter 257 My Prince Isn't Short of Money

In Qin Mo's previous life, the largest city in Sri Lanka was the capital, Colombo. However, the information Qin Mo had Baye gather indicated that the current Lion Kingdom was ruled by the Koti Dynasty, and its capital was called Koti, which was not far from Colombo.

As a seafaring enthusiast who once dreamed of circumnavigating the globe, Qin Mo certainly remembered the coordinates of the important port of Colombo. Based on the key data of 6°55′ North latitude, Qin Mo's fleet successfully arrived at the port of Kote.

Qin Mo felt his fleet was sufficient, but unfortunately the people of Lion Country didn't think so. Just as a fast sailing ship leading three large escort ships approached Koti Port, a riot broke out on the shore. Women dragged their children and ran inland, while barefoot men, wielding crude weapons, rushed onto the dock, ready to fight.

"Alright, Shia, it's your turn to step in as the great translator. I don't understand Sinhala."

"Watch me, it's a piece of cake." Seeing that Qin Mo had finally gotten her help, Shia excitedly jumped onto a lifeboat and rowed towards the shore. Qin Mo thought it was unreliable, so she followed him herself.

As expected, Shia was unreliable. After watching her gesture with her hands and feet for a while, the army on the shore just wouldn't put down their weapons, and their bows, crossbows, and spears were still pointed at them.

"Shia, do you even understand Sinhala?"

“I understand Sanskrit. Sinhala is somewhat similar to Sanskrit, and I’m currently studying it!”

Shia looked deep in thought, seemingly trying to figure out what Sinhala Randi meant. It's understandable that she couldn't understand it; compared to northern India, southern India had never been unified. Without unification, there was no unified official language; the various dialects were vastly different, making communication difficult.

Qin Mo decided to do it himself. He took out a handful of copper coins, stepped forward, gestured to the other party not to misunderstand, and then gently placed the coins on the open ground between them.

The leaders of the opposing side whispered among themselves, and one of them stepped forward, picked up a copper coin, and immediately let out a gasp.

The fine copper coins were distributed to several leaders, and after a gasp, the coins disappeared, all ending up in the leaders' pockets.

"Shia, you just need to give them a few hints: we need to 'rest' and we need to 'make a deal'."

Instead of translating, Shia said to Qin Mo, "This is bribery...you actually bribed me!"

"We're bringing a gift, you understand? I don't have anything else on me... Hurry up and translate!"

Shia began translating with a disgruntled expression, but with Qin Mo's constant prompting, she finally managed to get the Sinhalese to put down their weapons and reveal smiles.

Soon, several people dressed as nobles rushed over from the port. After seeing Qin Mo and Xi Ya's obviously extraordinary clothes, they respectfully asked, "Where do you two noble ladies come from?" They even spoke in fluent Sanskrit.

This made things much easier, and Xia finally played her important role. Afterwards, she received high praise from Qin Mo and took the opportunity to ask for a reward.

"I want a gemstone this big, blue, and polished."

Shia's fingers were very long and slender. Her index finger and thumb formed a circle, which made Qin Mo stare blankly. "Are you sure you're not just making an 'ok' sign? It's as big as a ping-pong ball."

"Ask them if they have such a large gemstone?" Qin Mo spread his hands, indicating that if they didn't have it, then there was nothing he could do.

Shia immediately started chattering away at the nobles, who exchanged glances before turning to Qin Mo and babbling on and on. Then Shia excitedly started chattering away.

"Qin Mo, they have such a big gem, but it's very expensive!"

"Oh! What price did you quote them?"

Shia said embarrassedly, "I accidentally let it slip... My lord is not short of money!"

"You spendthrift brat..." Want to chat about "Sailing and Conquest" with more like-minded people? Follow "Youdu Literature" on WeChat to read, discuss life, and find kindred spirits~
