Chapter 5

Chapter 5

Yoda gradually recovered and regained his ability to take care of himself, so he was able to go home. He just needed to go back to the hospital for rehabilitation on time.

Although Yoda remembered only taking a nap, she had been in the hospital ever since she woke up, so being able to go home was wonderful. The whole family was in high spirits; everyone else was busy, and Yoda watched with a smile as her two younger brothers helped out with their short legs.

You Ming weighed the package in his hand and nodded: "I want to carry this."

Turning around, she glanced at the tote bag at Yuli's feet. It seemed more interesting, so she put down her own bag and ran over to pick it up. "I'll take this one instead."

Yu Li watched from the side. In the gaps between Yu Ming running around, he slowly sat on the edge of the bed, dangling his little legs and drinking a glass of water. When Yu Ming got tired of picking things up, he jumped off the bed, reached out and picked up a bag he could carry, and followed his father.

Yoda, the only one with free time, remarked to his mother who was tidying up beside him, "I was never this well-behaved when I was a child."

Yoda's mother, her hands still busy, laughed and said, "Yes, you were already running around everywhere when you were so small. Once you even took Shixing to the pond to catch tadpoles. You said you were going to find the tadpole mothers, but you forgot about them when you got home. I was shocked when I found out. It was even more frightening when I found out that the two of you had secretly gone to the pond."

Yoda was puzzled. "Was it me? Am I that naughty? It must have been Shi Xing who took me there."

"No, it's you." Yoda's father turned around and exposed him without hesitation. That time, he thought Yoda was sleeping obediently in the bedroom, but who knew that in the blink of an eye, the little guy quietly left the house, and when he came back, he knew to quietly crawl back to continue sleeping.

"Even though you're so mischievous, Shixing still wants to follow you around every day. In the blink of an eye, you've both grown up so much." The couple sighed as they looked at Yoda and Shixing.

Yoda realized that Shi Xing had always rented a place near the hospital, and now that Yoda was discharged, Shi Xing wouldn't have to make do with it anymore. He looked at Shi Xing and said, "You won't have to live near the hospital anymore, right?"

Waiting for a reply, Shi Xing stared at Yoda without saying a word. Yoda looked at the stunned Shi Xing with a puzzled expression.

Shi Xing looked at Yoda with a puzzled expression, only then realizing that he hadn't said anything.

Yoda was momentarily worried when he saw Shi Xing getting stuck, but the next second Yoda's mother's agreement interrupted their staring at each other: "Yes, we should find a more convenient place to work."

Shi Xing nodded, and Yoda didn't press him about his earlier silence. Yoda's mother was used to his current taciturn nature, but Yoda himself felt a little uncomfortable. After thinking for a moment, she said, "A designer's home is the best work of art. Did you design the place you live in? I haven't been to your place yet; I'd like to see it."

Yoda's mother then realized that everyone had been focusing all their attention on Yoda and didn't know what Shi Xing's place was like.

Shi Xing thought about his own place and realized there wasn't much to see.

"Ah Xing? Ah Xing? Why aren't you saying anything?"

Looking at the two people waiting for his answer, Shi Xing realized that he had remained silent once again. "It's just a temporary stay. Let's get discharged first. Go home and rest well."

Yoda's mother nodded, and the family happily packed their things to go home. No one noticed Shi Xing, who was left behind, looking at the empty ward with a blank expression on his face.

On his way home, Yoda looked at the scenery along the road. The whole city was unfamiliar; even his family had moved. When he woke up, everything was brand new. It was wonderful.

"Why did you move?" Yoda looked around the new house with curiosity. It was clearly different from what he remembered, yet it felt very familiar.

Yoda's mother: "It's closer to the hospital here." Moreover, after seeing Yoda's curious exploration, the gloom in Yoda's mother's eyes dissipated. "When we lived there before, the neighbors knew each other too well, and there was too much gossip. Your father and I didn't want to hear those things, so we simply moved away."

The fact that their daughter was injured and unconscious was already a huge blow to Yoda's parents. On top of that, they had two sons, and the self-righteous comments from those around them kept hurting them.

To make it easier to care for Yoda in the hospital, the whole family moved away. At the time, they didn't know when Yoda would wake up, and could only wait with a dwindling hope each day. Their hearts were as fragile as a candle flickering in the rain, and they couldn't bear any gossip or rumors from the outside world.

Yoda pushed open his bedroom door.

Stepping inside brought back familiar memories. His favorite trinkets, all his treasured possessions, were neatly arranged in their original places in his room. Everything was spotless, as if waiting for its owner's return. Yoda felt a lump in her throat; he had spent so much time and effort taking care of himself, and yet his room was still so well-maintained.

Opening the wardrobe, every piece of clothing instantly evokes memories of Yoda's past life. Whether it was something she bought with her mother while shopping, or a matching item with Xie Yiyi, each garment is a vivid "yesterday" in Yoda's memory.

There were still study materials for the English exam on my desk. I had spent the whole vacation preparing, just waiting for the start of the semester to take the exam, and if I passed, I could just wait to graduate.

Yoda randomly flipped open a book; he seemed to recognize every single word, but when put together, he had no recollection of them. Sure enough, knowledge learned through painful study is always the first thing to be completely forgotten.

Yoda quickly flipped through his old novels. Fortunately, he could still recall the plots and hadn't forgotten everything. Feeling a little relieved, he then discovered that the novels he had secretly hidden were now openly displayed on the bookshelf.

I blushed instantly, but then I told myself to relax. Anyone who has ever been lying in a hospital bed, unconscious, must learn to accept that they have no privacy.

However, Yoda glanced guiltily at the doorway, then quickly crouched down to check the drawers under the bed, which contained all sorts of miscellaneous trinkets. He gently opened one; the familiar mess was still there. A little disarray was more reassuring than a neat bookshelf.

Yoda breathed a sigh of relief. The randomness was good; it meant his secret hadn't been exposed. Putting the things back, Yoda looked at everything familiar before him, stretched out on the bed, and said, "I'm back."

After resting for a while, Yoda felt a bit more refreshed. She wandered out of her bedroom; her father wasn't home.

Mom continued packing the things she brought back from the hospital without stopping. "Dad is very busy right now; he can't leave the shop unattended."

Yoda recalled his father's small shop. Although business was good, as his father got older, he said before the holidays that he would need to hire more help. "Why didn't you hire anyone?"

Yoda's mother moved to the table and put away the items she wanted to keep. "When you had your accident, I was too busy to handle everything, so I hired someone. Later, as the business grew, I couldn't bear to hire anyone more, so I just did it myself and was able to save more money."

Yoda's family moved all the furniture from their original home, except that the wine cabinet that belonged to his father was gone, replaced by his younger brothers' bookshelves. Yoda remembered that every time he left home, he would tell his father that he could only drink a small glass each day, no more. He would check on him when he returned.

Yoda's mother moved to the sofa and piled up the things she was going to throw away. "Dad stopped drinking a long time ago. He still had to drive around every day. Drinking is so dangerous, so he quit on his own. It'll be perfect for making bookshelves for Yoming and Yoli."

After confirming that the twins, who had been so eager to help early in the morning, were still fast asleep, Yoda asked slyly, "Are they my biological children?"

Previously at the hospital, Yoda had no trouble accepting her two younger brothers; after all, who could resist two sweet and soft babies?

But I couldn't help but be curious. It's just that it's really hard to ask when there are many people around, but now that there's no one around, I can finally find out the truth.

The usually busy mother finally stopped when asked this question. She saw Yoda's eyes light up, and he wouldn't leave until she got a clear answer.

Yoda's mother lowered her head somewhat embarrassedly. "Actually, we found out I was pregnant the summer you went to teach in the rural area. Oh dear, I was really embarrassed at the time because I was already over 40 and I was pregnant with my second child. Your father and I thought we should take advantage of your time away teaching to have an abortion as soon as possible. Once you recovered, we wouldn't be able to tell when you came home."

Yoda recalled that her parents were very worried about her going anywhere and didn't want her to travel far. If Shixing hadn't gone with her and vouched for her, she wouldn't have had the chance to go out at all.

But that time, my mother acted out of character. When I was about to come back after my teaching stint, she actually gave me extra pocket money and told me to have fun outside. Looking back now, I realize it was all to send me away.

"No wonder, that explains why they suddenly let me stay out longer."

"Why didn't you tell me? I wouldn't have objected if I had known."

Yoda's mother: "Because I was quite old at the time, an older mother, and carrying twins, all of these were risk factors."

Moreover, Yoda's mother looked at her daughter, whom she had lost and then found again. After Yoda's accident, she was exhausted from spending every day in the hospital and had resigned herself to fate. Just like with Yoda's injury, she couldn't blame anyone but fate.

Miraculously, even in that time of heartbreak and exhaustion, the baby in her womb grew day by day. Like a miracle, it gave the whole family a glimmer of hope. It was as if their Yoda was lying motionless in the hospital bed, yet still striving to survive.

Yoda hugged his mother, who composed herself and said, "You're awake. Everything is alright now. From now on, everything will be peaceful."

"Yes, everything is getting better."

Yoda dreamt of the earthquake. This time, he was alone in a swaying room. With his previous memories, Yoda dodged a falling chandelier as he rushed out. "Hahaha, this time I'm fine."

Satisfied, Yoda couldn't help but raise his hands and run outside. He had escaped and would no longer be unconscious. Everything could return to normal.

But as he ran, he couldn't see a single person, and his body gradually grew heavy. Yoda vaguely thought, why didn't he put his hands down? Running with them raised was so tiring.

Opening his eyes, Yoda found himself still lying in his room. It was all just a dream. As Yoda gradually became more awake, he sighed involuntarily. It was just a dream. Of course, how could the past be changed?

As he prepared to get up, he realized that the twins were sleeping on either side of him. In his sleep, Yoda, trying to avoid these two "obstacles," unconsciously raised his hands higher and higher, making it seem as if he were being propped up and sprawled on the bed.

My two younger brothers were outside the blanket, no wonder I ran all the way in my dream and got more and more tired.

I carefully raised my hand, trying to free myself from under the covers, but failed several times and ended up covered in sweat with no success.

Yoda, who was about to give up, slumped down and met two pairs of bright, piercing eyes. "You're awake?"

You Ming: "We're not asleep?"

Yuri: "Only you are sleeping."

Yoda: "Then why didn't you guys say anything while I was twisting and turning for so long?"

You Ming and You Li exchanged a glance, then turned their heads simultaneously: "Weren't you just playing around?"
