Chapter 55
Looking at her in-laws, who seemed no different from usual, Xie Yiyi could feel that they genuinely cared for her. However, she never expected that they would hide the fact that Li Mi had cheated on her.
Thinking of this, Xie Yiyi suddenly felt that the breakfast she had specially prepared for herself had lost its usual flavor.
Seeing Xie Yiyi stop staring blankly, her mother-in-law asked considerately, "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell? Or do you not want to eat this today? Would you like me to make you something else?"
Xie Yiyi snapped out of her reverie and subconsciously replied in her usual affectionate tone, "Mom, no need. I don't feel very hungry this morning."
Seeing that Xie Yiyi looked well, her mother-in-law was relieved, but hesitated and said, "How about we don't go out today and send you and the baby to your maternal grandparents' house first?"
That won't do. Xie Yiyi immediately realized that she had only made an excuse by saying that her parents were coming to see the child today so that her in-laws could go out without worry.
Recently, Xie Yiyi discovered that Li Mi frequently contacts people on WeChat, but every time she checks, the chat history has been deleted. Moreover, it's obvious that Li Mi's parents are covering for him; whenever Xie Yiyi tries to look at his phone, his parents find various excuses to stop her.
Ever since Xie Yiyi discovered that Li Mi went out every week, she had wanted to go with him to see what was going on. But each time, Li Mi's parents would go out with her under the pretext of taking care of Xie Yiyi.
Having exhausted all other options, Xie Yiyi had no choice but to resort to this method. She decided to take advantage of the day to send Li Mi's parents out as well. Seizing the opportunity, Xie Yiyi quickly told the others, "Li Mi is going out today too, let him take you."
After saying that, Xie Yiyi smiled and lowered her head, pretending not to see the meaningful glances exchanged between the three of them.
The parents-in-law smiled somewhat reluctantly: "Haha, yes, that's perfect."
Li Mi nodded absentmindedly, completely unaware of the murderous intent in Xie Yiyi's eyes.
Xie Yiyi seemed like someone who already knew the plot but still sat in the audience watching a clumsy performance, showing no energy to boo her for the flawed act.
I felt a pang of sadness. They used to be such a harmonious family, how could things have changed so suddenly? Is it true that sincerity can't be reciprocated, and I'm still just an outsider now?
When her in-laws were about to leave, they couldn't help but ask Xie Yiyi, "Why don't you send yourself and the child to your parents' place first? We're really worried about you being alone."
If everyone went together, her entire plan would be exposed. Xie Yiyi immediately refused, "Really, it's not necessary. My parents said they'll come over in a little while to pick us up, and we can take the baby out for a walk while we're at it."
Having no reason to object, the two could only say, "Alright, then be careful. We'll come back after we've taken care of things back home."
Xie Yiyi wondered what the house would be like when they returned. Her gaze swept over Li Mi beside her. "Hmph, still looking down at his phone replying to messages."
Xie Yiyi's parents noticed her attention and gently tapped Li Mi. Li Mi immediately put away his phone and said earnestly to Xie Yiyi, "Yes! Honey, you must be careful. I'll take good care of the baby when I get home tonight so you can get some rest."
Seeing that Li Mi's face showed no sign of guilt about being caught, his usually honest round face wore its usual innocent smile, Xie Yiyi noticed a growing wickedness in her eyes. "So, your whole family is hiding this from me, so you're confident you won't be exposed, huh?"
Xie Yiyi gritted her teeth and laughed heartily: "Is that so? Then I'll wait for you."
Li Mi felt a surge of pride as he thought about what he had kept hidden. To live a happy life, one must have some secrets. Seeing his wife's cheerful demeanor every day, he felt even more certain that he had made the right decision in concealing the truth. For the sake of a complete and harmonious family, a man's hard work was worthwhile.
After everyone else left, Xie Yiyi stared blankly at the breakfast on the table. The next moment, she continued eating; since things had come to this, she figured she might as well eat.
Yoda received Xie Yiyi's message and quietly slipped out of the stairwell.
Although he often visited Xie Yiyi's house, he didn't know why today. When he got downstairs, he saw Li Mi and his parents coming out of the elevator. Before Yoda could react, he instinctively took a big step and slipped into the stairwell.
Even though he was standing on the side of justice, seeing Li Mi and his parents chatting and laughing without any sign of guilt, Yoda was the one acting suspiciously.
Xie Yiyi opened the door, and Yoda huffed and puffed as he walked in. He was exhausted from climbing all that way. If it weren't for his good physique from running around on-site every day, he would have collapsed from exhaustion after climbing so many stairs.
"Why are you like this?" Xie Yiyi asked, puzzled, looking at Yoda who was groaning from exhaustion.
Yoda, panting, managed to glance at Xie Yiyi and said, "Your house is too high up. I'm exhausted from climbing up here."
Xie Yiyi frowned: "The power is out?" She glanced at the water purifier; the indicator light was on perfectly fine.
Yoda shook his head: "I almost ran into Li Mi and the others."
Xie Yiyi frowned: "Are you crazy? You climbed up such a height, don't you want to hurt your knees? No, he did something wrong, but it's like you betrayed me."
Yoda gasped for breath, leaning back in anger. His head, already throbbing from the exertion, throbbed even more: "Who am I doing this for? I'm just afraid of alerting the enemy!"
Seeing Xie Yiyi's indignant expression, and knowing she must be feeling annoyed, Yoda decided to let it go and not argue with her. He steadied his breathing and began muttering to himself, "Maybe we should call Li Mi back and talk things out first. I'm really worried you might be in danger if you just follow her like this."
Xie Yiyi shook her head, directly rejecting the suggestion: "If we could just talk it out, why would they keep it from me with their whole family, right?" She then looked Yoda up and down: "What's wrong with you? You're not as energetic as you were when you were young. When you were young, you were the type to do things on a whim. You were even more excited than me when something like this happened."
Yoda sighed: "It's precisely because you dared to think and act that you've been dormant for so many years. That's why I hope you think things through carefully and don't make a decision on a whim. Isn't there a safer way? Like hiring a private investigator?"
Xie Yiyi: "Don't worry, it's okay. I even went to find some outside help!"
Just then, there was a knock on the door. Xie Yiyi looked excited and turned to open it.
Yoda looked at Ying Jing as he walked in, his face full of curiosity: "Why did you come here?"
Ying Jing explained, "I happened to be on a business trip in a nearby city, and Xie Yiyi told me she needed help, so I came over."
Yoda gave Yingjing a disapproving look, the meaning clear: Why don't you try to persuade him?
Yingjing received Yoda's message, closed his eyes, and gently shook his head: "I tried to persuade him, but it was no use."
Xie Yiyi watched the two of them making faces in front of her and said coldly, "I'm still watching. Just say what you have to say. I'm allergic to eye contact behind my back now."
Yoda and Yingjing locked eyes for a moment, then immediately looked away as if electrocuted. Yingjing explained, "What I mean is, only by witnessing the infidelity firsthand can we tear down the disguise and get to the truth."
Yoda's head throbbed even more: "Stop, stop, stop! We're only in the suspicion stage yet, how can you jump to the conclusion that he's cheating?"
Yingjing: "What difference does it make whether it's true or not? As long as we have this suspicion in our hearts, then it's a possibility. Since it's a possibility, then we should be fully prepared."
Then, taking out a camera, she said, "The most important thing for us this time is not to argue with them, but to preserve evidence. As long as we take photos of his infidelity, he will be the one at fault in the division of property and the allocation of children, and you will have the upper hand."
Seeing this setup, Yoda exclaimed, "Goodness, you guys were prepared all along!" He then looked at Xie Yiyi and asked, "Why are you only telling me now that the plan is almost here?"
Xie Yiyi didn't think there was anything wrong with what she did, and said with a self-righteous expression, "If I had told you earlier, you would have kept nagging and trying to stop me."
As she spoke, Xie Yiyi looked at Ying Jing and said, "Look at her, that's what you call daring to think and act. As soon as I mentioned it, she came up with a solution for me. She even made time to come and work with us."
Yoda wanted to ask Ying Jing what was going on, why she had joined in the fun. But seeing Ying Jing's eyes narrow slightly, she instantly understood what she meant.
Looking back at Xie Yiyi's words now, her focus has shifted from "I'm so angry, I'm so furious, I can't think straight, I'm so upset!" to "I need to stay clear-headed, I need to be rational, I need to be fully prepared, to let him know the price of leaving me, to make him regret it."
Yoda quietly gave Yingjing a thumbs-up. This was a brilliant idea; Xie Yiyi's attention was completely diverted, and she was now full of fighting spirit and energy, a far cry from her earlier listlessness. Indeed, anger is the best way to overcome the unknown, more so than pain.
Xie Yiyi turned to Yoda and said, "You're so smart, you just kept dragging your feet on marrying Shixing. Sure enough, people change after marriage. I really can't believe that someone who used to be so good to me has become like this."
Yoda tried to explain that her current lack of marriage wasn't due to that reason. However, Ying Jing gently placed her hand on Yoda, her meaning clear: remain silent. They couldn't provoke Xie Yiyi any further at this time.
Yoda could only accept the praise: "Sigh, yes, yes, I was just that prescient." However, it seemed to have still upset her. It was obvious to the naked eye that Xie Yiyi's expression was still not good.
In short, the three of them now unanimously decided to take the initiative, and Yoda had no choice but to agree to their plan. "Let's go then."
Xie Yiyi said, "Wait a moment, there's one more person."
Yoda looked confused: "Huh, who else? Didn't you want to handle this discreetly? How many people did you actually call?"
Xie Yiyi pointed: "The person is right here."
Yoda noticed the baby sleeping soundly in the crib, his face covered in sweat. "Oh? You're bringing the child too?"
Xie Yiyi nodded: "Of course, I said I was taking the child to my parents' place, so they left with peace of mind. Otherwise, how would I have had the chance to go out and follow them?"
"This is too unreliable," Yoda frowned. "It's not appropriate to bring such a young child at this time and in this situation. Why don't you leave him with your parents first?"
“No, I’m pregnant now. If I leave the baby with my parents, they won’t let me leave alone so easily. Besides, I didn’t tell them I was taking the baby back with me; I just made up this excuse to lie to Li Mi’s parents. I don’t want my parents to worry about me until things are settled. So, I can only leave the baby with you.”
"Huh? Me?" Yoda pointed to himself, in disbelief.
