Chapter 62

Chapter 62

As Yoda lifted his foot to walk out, he seemed to hear Mo Nan speak, but when he looked at Mo Nan, she was still immersed in her own world.

Yoda was a little puzzled and wanted to ask the other person. Mo Nan's mother's voice came from behind: "This is where her father lives."

Thinking that Mo Nan might be feeling down because of health reasons, Yoda shook his head and stopped thinking about it.

When I walked over to the next room, I realized that the previous room, which I thought was already crowded, actually seemed quite spacious in comparison.

The tiny room contained only one bed, with the foot of the bed and space underneath crammed full. There was barely enough room on the bed for one person to lie down without moving. Moreover, even without a ruler, Yoda could tell that the bed was too small.

Mo Nan's mother sat on the edge of the bed, looking somewhat helpless, and said, "Her dad gets off work late and always sleeps here. The bed was made by himself by piecing together wooden planks."

Yoda sensed the other person's embarrassment and smiled, "It's very well assembled, neat and tidy. If I didn't often check the dimensions of these furniture pieces, I wouldn't have noticed that this bed was made by myself."

Mo Nan's mother laughed along, "This room is small, and the bed we bought was hard to move. It's more convenient to make our own bed against the wall."

Yoda said, "With so much stuff piled up on the bed, it's not very comfortable to sleep on, is it?"

Looking at the clutter on the bed, Mo Nan's mother smiled gently. Yoda was somewhat stunned. Ever since they came in, although Mo Nan's mother had been talking to them, the worry between her brows had never faded.

Now, a rare look of sorrow appeared on her face, and she said, "These are all clothes I made for my family before. Her father said it would be a pity to throw them away, so I put them all away."

Yoda then noticed that the piles of clothes on the bed were indeed various sizes. The ones closer to the outside, which were similar in style, probably belonged to Mo Nan's parents, while those closer to the inside, in various colors and sizes, likely belonged to Mo Nan.

Judging from the size, it seems that everything from the smallest to the largest is here.

The clothes piled together were all washed clean. Even the corners that were visible were meticulously stitched, showing that a lot of effort had been put into them.

Yoda couldn't help but exclaim, "Auntie, your cooking is amazing!"

Tang Yun chimed in, "Yeah, did you come up with all these designs yourself? You could sell them."

Mo Nan's mother laughed and said, "Oh, that's all in the past. There are clothes everywhere on the streets now, why would they need something like mine? My skills are outdated, I can only make clothes for my family now." She said with a hint of regret, "Making clothes by hand takes too much time, it's better to just buy them at the market, they have all kinds of styles."

Tang Yun stepped forward and picked up a few girls' dresses from outside, examining them carefully from all angles: "Seriously, there are many clothing makers outside, but it's really impressive that they can make these styles by hand. This is quite popular, so why don't you post some videos of yourself making clothes? It'll definitely attract some viewers."

Mo Nan's mother shook her head. She didn't understand things online, but she knew that Tang Yun made money by posting videos online. This time, she got the renovation opportunity, and Tang Yun paid for all the renovation costs because he wanted to film the whole process as a short video.

Although these were all things that had been agreed upon in advance, Mo Nan's mother was still a little worried: "About the renovation costs?"

Tang Yun hesitated. Originally, she thought that the contrast between Mo Nan's appearance and her own experiences would be an attractive gimmick, so she thought of helping Mo Nan renovate her house. This would not only help Mo Nan improve her living environment, but also become material for her account's next step.

However, Tang Yun unconsciously glanced at Mo Nan, who had been sitting silently in the dark.

Mo Nan's mother seemed to understand something and quickly said, "If she hadn't been sick, she wouldn't have turned out like this. It's all my fault. She had night blindness when she was little, but most adults have it to some extent, so we never paid attention to it. It must have been because she studied too hard and hurt her eyes too much. She finally graduated and was about to start working when her eyes were damaged."

He then produced a stack of medical reports to prove that he was not lying.

Yoda and Tang Yun held the medical records that had been handed to them. They didn't quite understand the string of medical terms, but they could still confirm from the diagnosis that Mo Nan's vision was gradually disappearing.

Mo Nan's mother gave a bitter smile, holding back her tears, her voice choked with emotion: "At first, things were sometimes a little blurry, but it would be fine after a while. Later, I noticed that she often bumped into tables and chairs when she walked. When I asked her, she said that she could only see the middle and not the surrounding area."

"I originally thought that since I could see some of the symptoms, it shouldn't be a big problem, but after going to the hospital, my condition didn't improve."

At this point, Mo Nan's mother looked at the clothes she had made for Mo Nan, and her voice gradually fell silent. Tears welled up in her eyes: "I've watched her grow from a baby to this age, working hard to become so outstanding. The family couldn't help much; she relied entirely on herself. Now we have to watch her eyesight deteriorate day by day. What will we do when we get old and can't take care of her anymore?"

Compared to the hopeful and expectant life of watching their child grow up day by day, Mo Nan's parents are now tormented by worry and anxiety every day. Although Mo Nan's vision has not completely disappeared, there is no way to restore it, and they can only wait day by day, hoping that the worst will be delayed.

Sooner or later, as time goes by, Mo Nan's condition will worsen, and what Mo Nan's mother worries about most is who will help Mo Nan, who needs even more care now, when she gets old.

Seeing Mo Nan's mother's tears, Tang Yun assured her without hesitation, "Auntie, don't worry. As we agreed before, we'll cover the renovation costs. Once it's finished, even if Mo Nan can't see anymore, she can live here in peace. Right?"

Tang Yun looked at Yoda beside her, who hadn't said a word. Yoda snapped out of her reverie, saw the expectant look in Mo Nan's mother's eyes, and assured her, "Yes, Auntie. There are many barrier-free designs suitable for disabled people now. After it's installed, it will definitely be more suitable for Mo Nan to live in than it is now."

Mo Nan's mother smiled, wiping away her tears somewhat shyly: "That's so kind of you, you're all such good people."

Yoda and Tang Yun declined Mo Nan's mother's warm hospitality. At this point, it was best not to add any more burden to the family.

Although Tang Yun already knew about Mo Nan's family situation, seeing and hearing it in person was still more moving than online text communication.

"It's so pitiful. They grow up healthy and have seen the beauty of this world, only to have their sight gradually eroded." Tang Yun felt very sad, but this also strengthened her initial belief.

Regardless, a renovation is definitely necessary.

"Yoda, you must help her!" Tang Yun looked at Yoda, unaware of the other's silence since coming out.

Yoda nodded. After parting ways with Tang Yun, he couldn't help but recall the scene he had just witnessed.

Although Mo Nan appeared calm, seemingly absorbed in her own world and oblivious to what was happening outside, Yoda noticed her hand trembling slightly as her mother cried. Yoda held it tightly, even as the two of them left the house.

Thinking back to what Mo Nan had vaguely mentioned to him, Yoda felt a little uneasy. But anyone would feel down after such an experience.

Putting aside his unanswerable questions for the time being, Yoda wanted to use his expertise to help her no matter what. Yoda and Tang Yun agreed to create a design plan within the budget that Ye Xin and Tang Yun could provide, and naturally, they didn't ask for a design fee.

Seeing Mo Nan, Yoda couldn't help but think of himself. During the time he was in a deep sleep, his parents must have suffered the same torment.

However, although the design was free, the effort put in was no less. Yoda finalized the first draft based on the measured data and then went to Liu Si's place with him.

"Auntie, this is a preliminary design rendering. Please take a look and tell me if there's anything you'd like to change." Yoda handed over the rendering and explained the reasoning behind each design element.

"If the height difference is the same throughout the house, you won't trip over it."

"All functional areas, such as the kitchen, living room sofa, and bedroom, are placed on one side, while the other side is a straight corridor leading to the door. This makes the flow of movement simple and convenient to move around the house."

"The indoor lighting is poor, and because of Mo Nan's vision problems, the indoor lights need to be brighter than in a typical design. Also, a motion-sensor light strip has been installed along the corridor from the bedroom to the bathroom. This way, when using the bathroom at night, the light can guide the way, making it safer."

Looking at the pictures and listening to Yoda's earnest explanations, Mo Nan's mother nodded happily, "That's great. Now I can rest assured."

Yoda breathed a sigh of relief upon receiving approval. However, Yoda hesitated for a moment and looked at Mo Nan's mother, saying, "Can I talk to Mo Nan? If she has any needs, she can ask now."

Mo Nan's mother looked somewhat embarrassed and hesitated, "Maybe we should just forget about it. I think it's fine as it is."

"Is there some difficulty?" Yoda asked, puzzled. It was clear that Mo Nan's mother was doing all this for Mo Nan's sake, yet she was hesitating. Yoda knew there must be something she didn't understand.

Since we're going to do design, we should naturally give it our all.

Yoda wanted to try communicating with Mo Nan's mother again. If she was willing to talk, Yoda could better understand Mo Nan's thoughts and make the design more suitable for Mo Nan's future living situation.

After several attempts, Mo Nan's mother, who was usually kind, remained silent. Yoda was somewhat helpless and confused.

"You paint so well, can you give me one?" Liu Si's voice interrupted Yoda's questioning.

Turning around, she realized that Liu Si had somehow walked into the bedroom and sat down next to Mo Nan. The two of them were huddled together at the bedroom desk, discussing something.

Curious, Yoda couldn't resist going in too. Watching Yoda's retreating figure, Mo Nan's mother breathed a sigh of relief and followed him inside.

"What is this?" Yoda looked at the palm-sized painting that Liu Si was holding, somewhat puzzled.

Seeing Yoda come in, Liu Si couldn't help but share her discovery with her: "Sister Yoda, look, these were all drawn by Mo Nan."

Yoda took it; it was a thick stack of drawing paper, with landscapes and animals, but mostly figures dressed in various styles of clothing and in different poses.

This drawing seems somewhat familiar.

Looking up, Yoda realized that the desk, which he had previously thought was also cluttered with miscellaneous items, was actually very well organized.

There was just too much stuff, so Yoda only glanced at it briefly last time.

Only now do we realize that, in addition to the sketches the same size as the drawing paper in Yoda's hand, there are also many paints and tools for painting.

Finally remembering what that sense of familiarity was, Yoda looked at Mo Nan and asked, "Is this a clothing design draft?"
