Chapter 40

Chapter 40

Even as a bystander, Yoda could feel the excruciating pain of the wound. The tears she had been holding back finally flowed freely. She spoke each word clearly: "I've been filled with regret. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have run back alone, I shouldn't have run back just to get the medicine, I shouldn't have gone back. In such a dangerous situation, I shouldn't have taken chances, thinking it was nothing and I'd be back in a little while."

Yoda raised her eyes and looked at Shi Xing: "If I had been more rational back then, stayed by your side, and waited until it was safer to find the medicine, we wouldn't have wasted seven years. I'm sorry for making you suffer alone for seven years."

Shi Xing finally felt the shadow that had been weighing on him dissipate. Although his face remained expressionless, he gradually became relieved. He reached out and hugged Yoda: "It's okay, I forgive you. We'll both be okay from now on."

"Mmm." Yoda leaned on Shi Xing's shoulder, nodded, and her voice, though trembling with emotion, was full of joy.

"Bed 12, oh, cough cough."

Hearing a sound behind them, the two, who had been so affectionate, quickly separated. The nurse walked in, her face calm, and carefully examined Shi Xing's IV bag.

"It's finished, and the blood is flowing back up a bit." He said, pulling out the needle. "Press it a little longer, and release it once the bleeding stops."

"Observe for a while longer, and you can leave if everything is alright." Saying this, he walked to the door, then turned back, swallowed hard, and said with a complicated expression, "It's just a fever, it's nothing serious."

Yoda instantly realized that his and Shi Xing's sorrowful expressions during their hug had probably been misinterpreted. He couldn't help but feel a little ashamed, thinking of Xie Yiyi's earlier comments; in other people's eyes, the two of them were probably a bit odd.

Turning his head, he saw Shi Xing. Although his eyes were calm and his face was composed, his bright red earlobes betrayed him.

Yoda found it amusing, and his mindset actually relaxed considerably. Having someone else around was problematic; those two were the normal ones.

After they talked things out, the two resumed their usual habits, breaking up and getting back together so quickly that their friends didn't even notice.

After listening to Yoda's entire story, Xie Yiyi remained completely silent, even seeming to want to laugh. If Yoda hadn't been so emotional that his eyes welled up with tears, she probably would have burst out laughing.

"Hey, why are you making that face?" Yoda said, trying to calm himself down. He had thought Xie Yiyi would feel the same way, but she just kept trying not to laugh.

"You two, really, hahahahahaha." Xie Yiyi couldn't help but clap her hands and laugh. "It's been so many years, and you're still the same as before."

Yoda, who was initially a little annoyed, was swayed by Xie Yiyi's laughter. "We're perfectly normal, okay? I shouldn't have told you."

Xie Yiyi: "Shi Xing has always seemed calm and composed to me. I never expected him to be so compatible with you. You two should stick together. After all, he's the only person in the world who can be silly with you." Then she couldn't help but sigh, "You actually regret it. You've been so cheerful every day since you woke up. I thought you were just glad and had already forgotten about what happened before."

Yoda was annoyed. What did he mean? Did he think he was stupid? But then he thought that no matter how childish his actions were, Shi Xing would always be there for him, so what did it matter if he was a little stupid? "How could I not regret it? I slap my thigh every morning," Yoda said, slapping his thigh repeatedly, severely criticizing himself: "Serves you right for not listening to advice, for running around everywhere. Now look what happened, I'm too old to be anything but a good person."

Seeing Yoda's annoyed expression, Xie Yiyi burst into laughter.

After joking around for a while, Yoda suddenly remembered to ask, "But why haven't you been going out much lately?"

Yoda hadn't seen Xie Yiyi for a long time. She was still able to go out after giving birth, but now she goes out less often. If Yoda hadn't gone to her door, he probably wouldn't have seen her again for a long time.

Xie Yiyi stopped laughing and leaned back on the sofa: "My husband has been traveling a lot for work lately, so I have no choice but to take care of the baby at home first."

"Oh, right." Xie Yiyi ran over, picked up a bunch of books, and shoved them all at Yoda: "Here, these were sent for the occasion."

Yoda felt a sudden weight in his hands; it was a huge, full load.

"What's this?"

Xie Yiyi pointed to a corner of the living room filled with a bookshelf of children's picture books, all brightly colored and in various shapes. "Those are all the ones she picked out for the baby. This one you mentioned is a design magazine she brought back from abroad. She sent them to me along with it so I could give it to you."

Yoda carefully flipped through several of them; they were all popular design magazines and journals, as well as compilations of several design competitions. It's not that they can't be bought domestically, but they're not as comprehensive as these timely publications.

Yoda had only mentioned it casually before, but she never expected that she would keep it in mind.

Yoda hugged the book tightly, each design inside representing the designer's hard work and the direction he wanted to strive to achieve. However, Yoda felt a little regretful: "These are all good books, but unfortunately they are too good for me."

Xie Yiyi rolled her eyes: "Say something I can understand. Don't be so subtle."

“Now, the designs I do every day are based on the contracts signed between the company and the clients. Having learned from past experiences, even if I feel that something needs to be modified, I can only talk to the client in a very tactful way. At first, there was a sense of novelty in working on different projects, but now I have basically done all the apartment types on the market. In order to maximize profits, the company will continue to assign the same type of projects as long as the projects we have done before are satisfactory.”

Xie Yiyi: "What's wrong with that? It'll save you a lot of trouble if you have experience."

Yoda: "But I feel like I've strayed a bit from the direction I want to achieve."

Xie Yiyi was puzzled: "If you think it's wrong, then do the right thing. You've already been very lucky in your life. Go all out on the rest. Either way, you're making a profit."

These words were like a wake-up call. Yoda straightened up and suddenly made up his mind. The things that had been bothering him before suddenly became insignificant.

Xie Yiyi had no idea that her words had such a great impact. However, Yoda didn't say anything, otherwise, given her personality, she would definitely laugh and tease him, wanting to be Yoda's mentor.

I won't let her get too cocky.

Yoda leaned closer to Xie Yiyi and grinned mischievously, "You and Ying Jing are getting along quite well now."

After what happened, Yoda had initially worried that Xie Yiyi had only reconciled with Yingjing to put his mind at ease. After all, everyone had matured, and even if Yoda wanted their friendship to return to what it was before, he had to respect everyone's wishes.

It seems that Xie Yiyi and Ying Jing have been in close contact with each other just as much as I have.

Xie Yiyi still tried to argue: "After all, we're both in the cultural industry, so it's normal to have some connection."

Yoda quipped, "Oh, the cultural industry? Does that mean I, from the service industry, am the third party?"

"You talk too much," Xie Yiyi retorted, both embarrassed and annoyed. Yoda, however, wasn't afraid. He sidestepped the cushion Xie Yiyi threw at him, and the two couldn't help but exchange a smile.

Yoda took the new project contract, nodded without saying much, and walked out. Designer Wang, however, seemed a little uncomfortable and called out to Yoda, "It's this apartment layout again? Don't you have anything to say?"

Yoda looked completely bewildered: "What did you say?"

Designer Wang hinted: "It's about reforms, dreams, innovation, and the like."

Yoda's eyes lit up: "Did I tell you you allowed me to do it?"

"Not allowed."

Yoda sighed, "Then why did I even say it?"

Designer Wang: "But I feel a little uncomfortable if you don't say it."

As they spent more time together, Yoda realized that the nickname Zhou Liu had given to designer Wang was quite apt: drawing drawings all night long and still having the mood to play pranks on people, he was just a little old man.

Yoda turned and left: "You'll get used to it eventually. There's still a lot to do, so hurry up."

Designer Wang shook his head, slowly refilled his teacup, sat back down at the table, looked at the messy yet orderly surface, and took a deep breath. Let's get started!

Finally finishing the design work, Yoda rubbed his shoulders, which were a little sore. Turning his head, he saw Shi Xing, whose desk he had taken up, engrossed in reading a magazine.

That was one of the books sent to coincide with the occasion.

The office that Shi Xing had moved into automatically became hers when Yoda arrived. Gradually, Yoda got used to it and subconsciously began to fill the office with her own things.

"Where are you looking? You seem so engrossed." Yoda walked over quietly and curiously peered over.

Shi Xing unfolded the book and pointed it out to Yoda. "This commercial space design case is very interesting. The entire store is constructed using natural materials such as stone and vines, creating a sense of contrast between nature and business."

Yoda leaned in and asked, "Did you think of the landscaping design you're working on now?"

Shi Xing tapped his finger lightly on the book, then shook his head: "This design concept is good, but not very applicable. Essentially, the design project for this landscaping company's office area should focus on showcasing the company's culture and capabilities. The plants themselves are the company's exhibits, and the design should highlight them, but the practicality of the office area must also be considered."

As he spoke, Shi Xing frowned slightly. This problem was also troubling him. Although the initial plan had been approved, after gaining a deeper understanding of the client's needs, Shi Xing felt that it could be designed even better. However, he didn't have a specific direction for the time being, and the process was somewhat stalled.

Yoda sighed as well. A design stall is frustrating, but a design that goes too smoothly is also frustrating. The former means facing challenges, while the latter often represents stagnation.

Shi Xing closed the book: "Let's not talk about me anymore. Have you finished all your work?"

Yoda nodded, watching Shi Xing get up and organize the items on the table, carefully separating them by project. She walked over and put her arm around Shi Xing: "Hehe, even though I'm just a designer's assistant now, I already have my own assistant designer."

Shi Xing lifted Yoda's forearm with his other hand: "Let's go, your assistant has offered to take you home."

"Granted!"

Yoda was on the annual shortlist for assistants to become designers when he saw his own name on it.

According to the company's normal procedures, Yoda was not yet old enough to be a designer, but in addition to time, the amount of time each assistant participated in the project was also taken into consideration.

Yoda is on the list because she participated in far more projects than anyone else.

At a glance, Yoda knew it was definitely Designer Wang helping her, because even for some projects, Yoda's mere assistance in measuring rooms or checking on-site was considered part of her involvement. Without the designer's consent and application, it would be impossible to recognize it as the assistant's workload.

However, Yoda felt a little heavy-hearted when he thought about his decision.

"Teacher, I'm sorry, I don't need your kindness."
