Chapter 27
The door opened the next moment. Shi Xing crouched down and looked at Yoda's calves: "Can you still walk?"
Unexpectedly, the door opened so quickly that Yoda almost stepped over Shi Xing, who was squatting down. Steadying himself, Yoda moved his calves. "It's alright. It's just that my toe is still a little stuck on that twisted tendon."
Shi Xing picked up Yoda and placed her on the bed, gently straightening her stiff calves and slowly massaging the muscles to relieve the pain.
Yoda couldn't help but flinch. "Ouch, that hurts a little."
Shi Xing didn't look up: "It will hurt more if you don't stretch it out. Raise your hands."
Yoda had no choice but to comply, stretching her arms towards the ceiling and lying down on the bed. From her angle, Shi Xing's eyelashes covered his eyes, making it impossible to see his expression.
Yoda felt a little awkward: "Isn't there a more respectable way to pose?"
Shi Xing stood up: "Alright."
Yoda jumped up and, sure enough, moved as usual. It was just that things had gone too smoothly, making the recent pain seem like an illusion.
"A miracle doctor!"
Shi Xing's originally serious face broke into a smile. But then, remembering what had happened before, the smile vanished.
Yoda, who had been watching him closely, wasn't about to let the opportunity slip by. He leaped over the foot of the bed in two strides and forcefully straightened Shi Xing's head, which was about to turn away. "I saw it. You were laughing just now. It's too late to pretend to be deep in thought now."
Helpless, Shi Xing followed Yoda's lead, pinning the man who had jumped away and making Yoda sit at the foot of the bed. "Slow down, or you'll sprain your ankle again, and I won't be able to treat you."
Yoda looked up at Shi Xing. Although she was sitting on the bed and Shi Xing was standing, their auras were completely reversed. Yoda was aggressive, grabbing Shi Xing with both hands to prevent him from escaping.
"Explain yourself, why did you take off your life jacket just now?"
Shi Xing closed his eyes, his eyelashes trembling slightly.
Yoda glanced at him and thought, "Oh, no more silent resistance." Her voice was gentle: "I'm perfectly safe. I just had a leg cramp. You know, there are lifeguards nearby who will come if they see me. Besides, we've been in the shallow end the whole time, and there are other people playing in the deeper areas. It's very safe."
As Yoda spoke at a pace as if coaxing a child, Shi Xing slowly opened his eyes. Yoda moved closer, filling his entire field of vision: "Running away is useless. Tell me, why did you take off your life jacket? Do you know how dangerous that is!"
Shi Xing said in a low voice, "I will be more careful in the future."
Yoda took his hand, slowly intertwining their fingers, looking into his eyes with a serious expression: "Ah Xing, what you're doing is wrong. Even if I'm in danger, you shouldn't disregard your own safety to save me. I don't want you to do this."
Shi Xing looked intently at Yoda for a long time, then suddenly, as if releasing all his strength, he bent down and hugged Yoda. "Mmm."
Xie Yingying looked at Yoda, who arrived late, and asked, "Why are you alone? Where's Shixing?"
Yoda took the food from the table and ate a bite. After all the commotion, it was fine if he hadn't seen any food, but now that he saw it, his hunger surged instantly. "He wants to rest for a bit. I'll bring some food back later."
They were talking while eating, and it was a bit difficult to swallow. After taking a sip of soup to clear her throat, Yoda looked at Xie Yiyi, who was wearing sunglasses and leaning casually in her armchair: "Where is everyone else? Why are you the only one here? Wearing that indoors, can you even see clearly?"
Xie Yiyi took off her sunglasses and retorted irritably to Yoda's three questions: "Can't I have some space of my own? Good sunglasses aren't all black. Try them on."
She then placed her glasses on Yoda's nose. Xie Yiyi's actions didn't affect Yoda's eating at all. Yoda looked up, glanced around, and indeed, it was very clear. "Wow, it really is. No wonder you and Yingjing always wear them. I thought it was something you automatically developed a liking for at this age."
Xie Yiyi was speechless: "What do you mean by 'this age'? We're the same age, okay? Don't try to blur our age just because you slept together for a few years."
Seeing Yoda looking around, Xie Yiyi complained, "You've been asleep for so long, your understanding is so outdated, you can't even keep up with the latest trends. Is a pair of sunglasses really that interesting to you?"
Yoda retorted, "A person's maturity should be based on their experience, not their age. I've been asleep all these years and haven't experienced anything, so it can't be counted in my age. Your words hurt me, but I'll accept the glasses and forgive you."
Xie Yiyi waved her hand dismissively: "Take it, take it."
Seeing that Yoda was still focused on eating, Xie Yiyi urged, "Hurry up and finish eating, then come with me for a walk."
Yoda looked up: "But I promised Shixing I'd bring him food."
Xie Yiyi: "I'm just going out for a bit, it won't be long. I also need to bring some food back, I'll just bring an extra portion later. I'm short on time, so hurry up. The baby is tired from playing and is sleeping in the room. I can't be out for too long, otherwise, no one but me can soothe the baby at night."
Yoda swallowed the last bite, wiped his mouth, and said, "With such a tight schedule, why even bother going out? Aren't you tired?"
Xie Yiyi pulled Yoda and walked outside: "It's my husband's turn to take care of the child now. If I don't go out and relax, I won't be able to give the baby a mother who is full of energy when it's my turn."
"You'll understand once you've raised a child. Before we had children, we were inseparable, but with children, there's always so much to do. We have to learn to separate. Now we have a clear division of labor: one of us looks after the child while the other rests. No one can keep up with looking after the child continuously. Taking turns keeps everyone from being too stressed, which greatly improves our sense of well-being."
Yoda nodded thoughtfully: Yes, no one can look at anyone forever; we have to learn to separate.
The two walked to the beach, and Xie Yiyi slowed down after taking her favorite sunset beach photos.
Seeing Yoda's absent-minded look, he asked directly, "What's wrong? What happened between you and Shixing?"
Yoda: "You knew all that? You're a prophet!"
Xie Yiyi: "Stop being so glib. You and I know each other perfectly well. If you have something on your mind, it's written all over your face. Right now, besides Shixing, what else do you have to worry about?"
Yoda sighed, "I parted ways with you earlier and went to play in the sea with Shixing. I got a leg cramp, and even though I was wearing a life jacket, I only swallowed a few mouthfuls of water. But Shixing was so anxious that he took off his life jacket to save me."
Xie Yiyi was startled: "He can't swim either, can he? Was he alright later?"
Yoda shook his head: "It's okay, there are lifeguards. It's just that I think Shixing is overreacting a bit because of what happened to me before."
Hearing that everything was alright, Xie Yiyi felt relieved. Seeing Yoda's worried face, she couldn't help but say, "What's the big deal? You two have always been like this, so silly."
Yoda raised an eyebrow and retorted, "When have we ever done anything stupid?"
Xie Yiyi recounted the story bit by bit. "We made plans to skip class to watch a movie. When we were climbing over the school wall, you were coming down from the wall. Everyone else was jumping the same way, but Shi Xing insisted on catching you from below. In the end, you dislocated your elbow, and you held his hand and cried for a long time."
Yoda opened his mouth, unable to refute it; it was indeed true. He could only whisper, "You remember?"
Xie Yiyi continued, "And then there was the time when you two went shopping, and someone on a bike couldn't stop in time and drove straight at you. Shi Xing lunged at you and pushed you aside, scraping your knee. You were crying while bandaging his wound, weren't you?"
That was true, but Yoda was shocked: "How did you know?" Only she and Shixing knew about what happened that time. In order not to be blamed by their families, the two of them would secretly hide outside after school every day and wait for Yoda to apply medicine to Shixing before going back.
Xie Yiyi laughed: "Haha, you didn't expect that, did you? Ying Jing and I were drinking milk tea next door that day. We were about to call you when we saw you two, but then we saw you acting like you were in some kind of melodramatic idol drama."
He laughed even more unrestrainedly as he spoke: "Hahaha, we followed you two all the way, you two comforted each other, and you didn't even notice."
Yoda blushed crimson, while Xie Yiyi laughed even harder. Yoda could only look at the blurring horizon as the night deepened, trying to hide his embarrassment. Wasn't life supposed to be a wilderness? Why were there spectators everywhere?
Xie Yiyi, who had been smiling contentedly, finally stopped and said with a serious face, "Even if Shi Xing is being a bit too extreme right now, don't be too anxious. Now that you've woken up, he'll get better slowly. The pain caused by time can only be healed by time, right?"
Yoda nodded. She was awake, and she would get Shi Xing back to a normal life.
Seeing Yoda's serious expression, Xie Yiyi couldn't help but tease her: "Anyway, idol dramas don't do the physical and emotional torture stuff anymore, so you two are going to have to go through a new storyline, haha."
Yoda raised his fist in a show of defiance, but Xie Yiyi showed no fear, laughing wildly. The two turned and chased each other, their joy and abandon filling the night.
After returning from their short trip, neither Shixing nor Yoda mentioned what happened that day. Yoda knew that Shixing's inner pain couldn't be erased by a single word from him, but Yoda firmly believed that if once didn't work, they would try twice, and if twice didn't work, they would try three times.
Shi Xing stayed by her side, waiting for her to wake up, and she would stay by his side, waiting for him to recover. She believed that every effort would be rewarded.
Previously, Yoda had no specific purpose in going back to check on the waterproofing project; she was simply doing so out of genuine interest. Afterward, the designer in charge of the project, Mr. Wang, began to gradually teach Yoda some basic work experience.
Although the workload increased, Yoda was satisfied compared to the repetitive tasks she used to perform every day. If she had started off by doing shoddy work to avoid small tasks, she would have encountered parts she didn't like when working on projects later, and would she have had to deal with those too? Choosing to avoid things leads to a habit of avoidance.
Shi Xing and I initially chose interior design because we didn't want to do repetitive work and thought it would be interesting to be exposed to different projects each time.
However, the major I worked so hard to get into turned out to be a hot one when I entered the university, but a complete disaster when I left. I won't go into that.
Wry smile~
