Chapter 18 Eighteen Bats

"You're late, Batman." Iron Man said righteously, "The bald director of S.H.I.E.L.D. tried to stop me before, but at the critical moment I arrived faster than you, a local?"

"I ran into some trouble on the way." Compared to Tony, who was wearing the Mark IV that had not yet been unveiled at the technology exhibition, Batman's stature difference was more obvious when he stood in front of Bane, just like a small mountain standing in front of one person. But when he confronted Bane, he gave others a sense of stability that they were evenly matched.

"It seems that Brother Tan has had a lot of trouble today." Iron Man's tense mood gradually relaxed from one-on-two to one-on-one. His opponent took the same technological enhancement route as him. The fight between the two was particularly cool with sparks and lightning. There was no place where he could not stand from the ground to the ceiling. He even had time to tease his temporary teammate, "I heard Fury talk about you - although your name is Bat, you can't fly, right? When I came here before, I blew down the main entrance of this building. How did you get up?"

In response, he was hit by a bat claw at a tricky angle, which grabbed the whip rope's ankle and yanked him hard to the ground.

"Hey!" Iron Man's attack missed because of this accident. He wanted to mock Bane for his skill in speaking harsh words, but his actual fighting ability was comparable to that of a goose, and he couldn't even keep an eye on his opponent. Thinking of the wolf just now, he felt that this remark seemed to be a way of scolding him, so he held it back, "This little thing is quite useful, but have you really never encountered a situation where the rope is not long enough and you find that you can't climb up to a high place halfway through throwing it? What if someone sees you at that time?"

"Puff, cough, cough!" Dick, who was hiding in the ventilation duct above the ceiling, made a strange sound. The Red Hood behind him couldn't see what was happening outside and kicked him in the butt: "Move to the side."

Nightwing took a deep breath and shrunk himself into a strip, giving the young man, whose skeleton had not yet fully expanded, some room to move. They huddled their heads together and observed secretly.

After a while, Jason asked critically, "Is this the difficult opponent Batman mentioned? An enemy that won't even let us go down to face him?"

"Batman is overprotective sometimes." Nightwing agrees with him on this point, "But the big guy is also very strong. Do you believe that he can knock you into the wall with one slap?"

While he was talking, Batman was unable to dodge and was lifted up by Bane's head, unable to move. Fortunately, Iron Man shot at him in time, forcing Bane to loosen his grip. The Gotham vigilante, who had escaped death, had no intention of retreating. He seemed to feel no fear and took advantage of the enemy's relaxation to step on Bane's arm and jumped up, and in a flash, he tore off a pipe behind his back.

Bane roared, turned around, and swung his fists in a circle like a cannonball, smashing towards Batman along with the surrounding iron frames. In the blink of an eye, the man was buried under the metal barrier so that even the tips of his ears could not be seen.

Whiplash saw the opportunity and whipped the electrified whip in his hand on the piled obstacles, cutting them down like cutting a cake. Iron Man swooped down and grabbed the other end of the whip. The two men began to wrestle in mid-air. Halfway through, Tony gritted his teeth and asked, "Bat? Are you still alive?"

Bane took a few steps forward suspiciously, and at this moment, the gel bomb behind him exploded, knocking the remaining metal frames to the ground like dominoes, and Batman, under the cover of smoke bombs, went behind Bane and hung on him directly by his neck.

"Alive." Only then did Moses have a chance to answer.

The two minors who were holding their breath on the roof let out a long breath at the same time. Red Hood turned around and said, "Nightwing, are you a little crow-mouthed?"

Nightwing: "..." He made a gesture of zipping his mouth, "You explain it, you do it."

They looked at each other, then turned their heads back in silence and continued to watch the fight.

Bane started roaring like a tiger trapped in prison. But when he was losing the battle with Batman, which was never equal, the man who grew up in prison started laughing loudly: "Bat...Batman!"

He panted and pleaded, his eyes flashing with cruel hatred as he stared at Moses: "I could have killed you."

Iron Man had almost pinned the whip to the ground by this time. He was slightly injured, but his mental state was good after a long time. He taunted with a little excitement: "Really? Batman doesn't kill people, so the villains of Gotan still have time to reflect on their battles as usual? Are you high school students who study past SAT exam questions for the college entrance examination?"

Dick muttered quietly, "...I feel offended."

Batman's response was cold, with the intimidating tone he usually used when facing criminals: "But the fact is, Arkham is your final destination, Bane!"

"Perhaps this is not the first time we have met, Bat. I have imagined countless times in the dark how to destroy you physically and mentally... I will open Arkham, give them weapons, and let those lunatics come to my door one by one. You don't kill people, Bat, so you are doomed to fail. You watch the good people standing beside you die one by one, but you have to run around and embark on the next fateful reincarnation." This big guy who usually likes to read is dodging in the ruins around him. He seems to have imagined such a scene, and his mouth, which has become particularly ugly due to drugs, opens happily. "Then I may have a chance to find out your true identity, kill you in front of your loved ones, and let everyone in Gotan see the fall of the Knight."

"You won't have that chance."

"This is what confuses me the most." Bain smacked his lips and said regretfully, "I expected my partner to be stupid, but how did you know my weakness?"

Batman gave his first sarcastic smile of the night: "Don't think too highly of yourself, Bane. You're just one of the stronger criminals I've ever faced."

Bane's pupils shrank suddenly. Before he could vent the huge gap between his imagination and reality, he felt a sharp pain all over his body and his vision went dark - Moses cut the last tube in his body.

He would never have a chance to defeat the enemy in the dark, to defeat the bat-shaped shadow.

"Hmm..." Iron Man flew to the side with his arms folded, and behind him was Whiplash, who was lying on the ground unconscious. "I didn't dare to interrupt your conversation just now, Batman, did I accidentally intrude into a personal movie?"

"Last time I broke into Stark Tower to capture the Arkham fugitive." The man dressed as a bat ignored his joke, "This time you come to Arkham, we are even."

Stark stared at him for a moment, and raised the corner of his mouth strangely: "You just don't want to say 'thank you' to me, right? But forget it, I don't like to say these things either. This may be one of the few things we have in common."

No, Moses thought silently. We have more in common than you think.

"I was thinking of asking you before," Tony's smart AI's infrared scanning was always in use, "Why do you go out at night in your uniform with two small children?"

Damn it. Nightwing opened the vent and jumped down: "I came here by myself. Iron Man, can you give me an autograph?"

Red Hood followed behind, not getting too close: "I came here on my own, it has nothing to do with him, can I leave now?"

Not sure if it was his illusion, but when Jason was trying to distance himself from the matter, Batman gave him a meaningful look.

"I can take you out later." Iron Man really walked over calmly to sign for Nightwing. Although there was no paper or pen at hand, there were many things around that could be used as substitutes. "Although I have almost wiped out the gangs, just in case, you can follow Batman. By the way, Batman, I don't know who your real identity is under the mask, but if you are interested, the Stark Expo is being held these two days, so I invite you."

"…Thank you, if I'm free."

"It's not easy, is it?" Tony turned around and complained to the two children.

Their brief cooperation came to an end, and Moses said he would be responsible for the safety of the two minors. When Batman's shadow was about to disappear in the night, Tony Stark's irresistible impulse still urged him to speak: "...Wait a minute!"

The figure half-crouching on the gargoyle stopped.

"What Bane just said... I'm certainly not interested in listening to a psychopath's delusions, but those plans about releasing the criminals and then finding an opportunity to kill you didn't really happen, right?"

Batman on the high ground didn't turn his head to look at him: "If there is no chance to implement a plan, it will always be just a plan."

"I won't give him another chance."

His long shadow in the moonlight disappeared not far away.

**

"… That's basically it." Iron Man poured himself a glass of wine irritably, "Why do you care so much about him? Batman is on SHIELD's assassination list?"

"I told you he's a hero." Nick Fury sat across from him with his arms crossed. "You don't have to be so vigilant."

"You have to give me a reason."

"Hmm." Fury fiddled with his goblet and thought for a while before speaking. "This is just a guess without any basis so far, but do you think his existence could be related to factors such as time or space?"
