Chapter 36: Countdown to the Alliance

"Lao, I never thought it would feel like this." Moses—or Kal-El, whatever—felt a tiny stream of air that he had never noticed before brushing past his ears in midair. His black hair at the temples swayed gently. The warm rays of the yellow sun shone on his body, the dust in the air floated softly, and the sounds from every corner of the earth echoed in his ears.

Crickets wiggled their antennae in the treetops, cats made creaking sounds as they stretched their backs, and a couple leaned on a park bench and kissed each other passionately, causing strangers who accidentally noticed this scene to quickly look away.

His height and weight are about the same as when he was a human, but the power hidden within him is vastly different.

Moses almost felt a cautious panic as he forced his current body to remain suspended between heaven and earth, as if a young child was holding a precious and fragile object that could be broken if he was not careful.

The system is not exaggerating. It doesn't use enough adjectives to describe its power.

——Superman.

A god walking among men.

The survival or destruction of the world can be controlled by his thoughts, so this power becomes a heavy responsibility and a barrier that prevents him from communicating with others, prompting him to repeatedly question himself when he does nothing.

In just a short while, the sounds of grief, sobbing, dying gasps, and life slipping away that reached his ears were more than the number of deaths that everyone witnessed every day through various social media.

A sense of duty urged him to move, and doubts about his own control kept his legs rooted to the spot.

Moses took a deep breath and simply broadened his range of feelings.

The entire planet shrank into the size of his palm.

The meteorite dissipated in the atmosphere with a long tail.

The plane was flying at a slow speed.

And those people whom he had neither the time nor the need to pay attention to before—the hermit in the Himalayas seemed to sense his gaze and cast an inclusive glance at him from afar; Diana Prince sat by the window in the restaurant and talked softly with her companions; the Flash stumbled when he passed by a fast food restaurant but no one noticed, he skillfully took three freshly grilled hot dogs and left cash for the owner...

There is also Bruce Wayne and Iron Man chatting at a party in New York.

It was a wonderful feeling, as he watched the tense bodies of the heroes, some busy and some relaxing, gradually relax.

They are like anchors on the surface, so that he does not forget what kind of appearance great people live in.

At the same time, there is a kind of belief in this iron body.

The people who were looking up saw that the serious and somewhat hard expression on the face of the man who suddenly appeared in the air above the metropolis and whose face looked like a sculpture created by an artist's chisel suddenly relaxed.

This made him look less aloof and more gentle.

Then, a gentle, frank, and bright smile that could be called classical beauty appeared on that handsome face. That softness from the inside out changed again, becoming something... that made people know at a glance that he was trustworthy.

The red cape slowly descended like a fluttering flag.

He circled the metropolis at a speed that would not make people dizzy or surrounded by people, his eyes full of wonder and nostalgia - he had never been in this amazing way when he came to this city last time, but looking down from a high altitude, no one could deny that she was vibrant and lovable. After this gesture like a greeting, Superman briefly demonstrated his power again: he stopped a high-speed moving car with one hand and saved a girl who was holding a mobile phone to take pictures on the zebra crossing and was gradually dazed.

"Next time, please don't play with your phone while crossing the road." Moses lifted his feet off the ground, crossed his arms and looked at the person in front of him. His actions completely distinguished him from the ordinary people passing by.

"I'm sorry." The girl was a little confused and hurriedly sorted out her briefcase. "I didn't mean it. I was thinking about something else just now, and you are too attractive - I mean, it's a professional habit."

Her gaze gradually shifted from the striking curls on the forehead of the man in front of her to his face, and finally to the body in tight armor.

Oh my god.

This was the only clear feeling that emerged in her mind in a few seconds.

As she was in a daze, the horns of cars passing by continued to sound. Moses had no choice but to say to her, "I'm sorry."

Then he politely picked up the woman's arm and moved her to the crosswalk at a height of no more than 15 centimeters from the ground.

Despite this, she still let out a startled gasp the moment she landed.

"Sorry," Moses said again, "we were in a bit of trouble."

He waited patiently for the woman's reply, as if he didn't realize how much attention he was paying.

Finally, Louise Lane emerged from the unstoppable brainstorm, and she didn't know whether to be happy or regretful to find that at this moment, it was work that dominated her mind, not the damn love brain that should have appeared.

"Louise Ryan, reporter from the Daily Planet." She struggled to put on a proper smile, her beautiful cheeks slightly flushed - because of excitement - one hand was used to tidy up her hair, and the other hand was extended, "Nice to meet you, and thank you for your help just now. To express my gratitude, can I treat you to a meal? By the way, do an interview?"

Moses looked at her long, inscribed hands and hesitated for a moment.

Then he carefully shook it, just touching it, controlling the strength just right, and smiled, "No need to treat me, maybe we can talk about it next time we meet, if there is a chance."

He nodded to the female reporter, quietly left the ground and flew towards the blue sky of the metropolis.

Before he completely disappeared from people's sight, he felt countless people's eyes were fixed on him.

Office workers, children, policemen... all with emotions of confusion, admiration, surprise or fear.

And maybe disgust.

He turned his head thoughtfully and looked at Lex Luther who was standing by the French window with a cold look in his eyes.

Daily tasks in Metropolis are easier than Moses imagined.

After all, how much trouble could a nearly invincible person encounter in his daily life? Strictly speaking, all his troubles so far have come from himself.

Kal-El is a man who is calm most of the time. His powerful strength makes him incompatible with the world, but his love for this planet makes him choose to restrain himself. Moses has already experienced this contradiction, just like putting a huge creature in a small jar. He has to remind and reflect at all times, and judge whether he is inappropriate through the behavior of others.

Honestly, this is much harder than rescuing people from the various car accidents, fires, flower pots falling off windowsills, etc. that occur in the metropolitan area.

Yet Superman adapts to this.

This body is used to protecting others and imprisoning itself.

After just half a week, Moses found that being a full-time superhero was an impossible task.

It's not that he doesn't have enough energy or strength. With the yellow sunlight, he doesn't even need to sleep. It's mainly because being away from the identity of an ordinary person for a long time can easily cause adverse changes in one's mentality. Even if super hearing and vision are enough to ensure that Superman receives most of the information in the world, the feeling of being a bystander and experiencing it in person is actually very different.

So one bright morning, this new superhero from nowhere in Metropolis awkwardly leapt across the city to Gotham and took an anonymous bank card from Bruce Wayne's drawer.

This was truly the poverty that Moses had not experienced for a long time. After leaving the novice protection period, the system no longer gave away money, real estate, and an old housekeeper at the click of a button as it did in the past.

Batman naturally knows what's going on.

But considering his obsessive-compulsive disorder, he will still feel uncomfortable for a few days.

When wearing the Superman shell, Moses did not think that the Dark Knight on the other side of the bay had anything to do with him. His soul was completely split, like switching accounts. But reason made him understand who he could trust, and with a sense of guilt of "I actually betrayed myself", he wrote an IOU in the memo on his mobile phone, and also felt an urgency to support his family and repay the debt.

He changed out of his striking primary-color uniform, bought a cheap suit at a clothing store, rented a small studio apartment, and sent his resume to the Daily Planet.

——Because when I rescued Louise Lane that day, I accidentally looked through her briefcase and found out that they were recruiting interns who were fresh graduates.

The new ID card shows Clark Kent's name, and his birthplace is Kansas. After graduating from high school, he came to the city to look for job opportunities.

In order to fit the character setting, even the curly hair on the head, which had an unclear meaning but seemed to be a good identity identification according to the system, was fixed by Moses with hairspray.

Perhaps it was just the right timing, and the content of his article about "Superman" was eye-catching enough, so interview invitations and job contracts were sent to his empty mailbox one after another.

There are many difficulties, but they are being overcome one by one.

From these trivial things, the alienation from the world brought by being away from the crowd gradually subsided, he once again found the clumsy joy of being an ordinary person, and was convinced that his love for the human race was the same as before.

Kal-El comes from a distant planet.

But Clark Kent has found his new home in this universe.

Time flies, and the adaptation period mentioned by the system is just a tail in the blink of an eye. The enemies from the universe seem to have come to the doorstep, although with Superman's eyesight, there are no alien spaceships passing by.

Moses had a more pressing problem.

For example, a Batman who is so anxious that it starts affecting himself.

He discovered that the Dark Knight's previous speculation was slightly wrong. The enemy described by the system as being extremely powerful, with invincible physical defense... did exist, but he was most likely of the same bloodline as Kal-El.

After all, Superman himself possesses these abilities.

There is, then, a clear and convincing way to prepare a battle plan in advance—just figure out how to defeat Superman.

In order to prevent this from being too weird to others, Batman rented a laboratory far away from Gotan. He and Superman studied for two or three days and temporarily determined that the only thing that could harm the Kryptonians was the debris left after the explosion of their native planet: Kryptonite.

Additionally, lead can be used to block Superman's vision.

A brand new door opened in front of the two superheroes.

What evil intentions could I have?

With a subtle mood of "being nice to yourself", Clark Kent aka Superman in Metropolis pretended nothing happened and watched with tolerance as the Gotham vigilante put lead layers in Wayne Manor and the Batcave.

Another half a month passed, and the universe began to turbulently appear. Strange and oddly shaped vehicles appeared between the Earth and the Moon.

People on Earth are still immersed in their daily lives and have not yet noticed the huge shadow cast overhead.

Only Moses knew that the date deliberately marked by the system was approaching - Superman was on the road to meet his own destiny.
