Chapter 40 Nightmare (6)

Bang!!!

The door was pushed open hastily from the outside.

The man walked step by step toward the wardrobe with a gloomy expression.

The breathing in the room became rapid.

"Creak..."

The scarred man suddenly pulled open the wardrobe door, but there was no one inside. He immediately looked under the bed, but there was no one there either.

"snort!"

The man gave a heavy, cold snort, then turned and ran out, this time without even closing the door.

Just as the door on the first floor opened and the sound of a man's footsteps could be heard as he walked out, a small figure gently jumped down from the wardrobe.

This person is none other than He You.

He moved quietly and slowly made his way downstairs.

The little boy went over to open the door again, only to find it locked from the outside.

He knew he wouldn't be able to get out today.

Then, looking around the first floor, I noticed that there were significantly more items on the first floor than on the second floor.

He found an inconspicuous little cabinet and slowly shrank inside.

The cabinet was so small that no one would know it could hide someone. If He You hadn't been so thin, he probably wouldn't have been able to get in.

He You huddled tightly in the crowded closet, hugging her small body, afraid to make a sound.

He didn't know how much time had passed when he heard the scarred man's hurried footsteps outside, which soon disappeared again.

He knew it was dawn when he heard footsteps coming and going outside the door.

The sound of someone hawking candied hawthorns was so clear at that moment.

"Candied hawthorn with taro, delicious candied hawthorn with taro, don't miss it if you pass by."

The scarred man opened the door very late today, and he opened it listlessly.

He then let out a heavy sigh, "Ugh! What terrible luck!"

The sounds of people coming and going outside were endless, seemingly from a completely different world from the little figure hidden in the cabinet.

A moment later, a man came in from outside and shouted loudly, "Is Scarface here?"

Hey! What brings you here?

Scarface's tone revealed a hint of delight.

The man who came in through the door said in a low voice, "We have stock!"

"Shh~"

The scarred man made a shushing gesture.

"We'll discuss this in detail inside."

He You heard someone close the door, but it didn't seem to be locked.

The sound of the two men's footsteps gradually faded into the dark corridor.

He You gently opened the cabinet and crept out from inside.

Walk straight towards the gate.

The door was indeed unlocked. He opened it very lightly, just enough for him to walk through, and then quietly closed it again.

Seeing the bustling scene outside, He You felt as if it were an illusion; the bright world outside gave him a sense of unreality.

He was so relaxed at that moment.

He turned and quickly left the place.

A tiny figure appeared in front of the Dali Temple.

He You slowly walked up, and the gatekeeper standing next to him saw him.

They would then have to drive them away.

He You said calmly, "I want to report someone for child trafficking."

The little person was small and dirty, but spoke in a strong and clear voice.

Upon hearing this, the gatekeeper paused for a moment, thinking: Recently, there has indeed been an organization that traffics children. Because the criminals are too cunning, the government has not been able to find a single clue about them.

"Little beggar, do you know that deceiving the government can land you in jail?"

The gatekeeper looked at He You with a serious expression and said.

"I know."

As he was lamenting the loss of a child yesterday, Scarface was suddenly pinned to the ground by soldiers who burst through the door.

The two were then escorted out by soldiers.

Scarface had just stepped outside when he saw He You standing expressionlessly on the street, staring at him.

Scarface was consumed by rage and wanted to break free of his restraints and charge forward.

But because the soldiers held him tightly, Scarface struggled a few times before giving up.

His eyes were bloodshot as he glared fiercely at He You.

He You remained like an emotionless puppet, watching the people gradually disappear into the distance without a ripple in her heart.

Li Baobei heard the sound of a rooster crowing outside in her sleep and slowly opened her eyes.

It was already daylight.

Light streamed through the transparent window paper, illuminating her fair face.

There were still faint tear stains on her face.

"Why worry, why worry..."

Li Baobei lay quietly on the bed, calling He You's name softly with heartache.

Li Baobei got up very early today.

She planned to go to Dali Temple to find He You, hoping he could forgive her.

She disguised herself as a man and quietly left the mansion through the back door.

Li Baobei searched all over Dali Temple but couldn't find He You.

She walked with difficulty to the gate of Dali Prison, her body trembling uncontrollably.

Every time she saw this door, her legs would go weak with fear.

She wanted to go inside to see if He You was there, but she always felt she couldn't get in.

She was still too scared.

Suddenly a guard passed by her.

She called out loudly to the guard.

"Is Lord He not at the Dali Temple?"

Her tone was urgent.

The guard said in a nonchalant tone, "Lord He went out to suppress bandits a day ago."

ah……

The guard hurriedly left, leaving behind a small figure standing motionless in place.

Li Baobei returned to the Prime Minister's residence in a daze, and sat blankly on the swing in front of the door.

The ginkgo leaves next to it had turned completely golden, and the fallen ginkgo leaves covered the ground, looking like a yellow carpet.
