Chapter 60 The New Year Ends Amidst the Sound of Firecrackers

Amidst the bustling crowds on the street, a figure gradually disappeared from view.

When Li Baobei and Bizhu passed by the place selling love bracelets again, carrying a lot of fireworks and firecrackers, they found that the old woman had already disappeared.

That place seemed as if it had never been inhabited before.

“Princess, look, that old woman is gone.” Bizhu blinked, finding it unbelievable.

Li Baobei also found it strange and frowned: "Maybe they had something to do at home and went home!"

Without much thought, she returned to Chang Le Mansion with Bi Zhu.

Li Baobei instructed Bizhu to have the kitchen prepare extra dishes for dinner, as she wanted to invite Lord He over for a meal.

Bizhu found it a bit unbelievable, but didn't say anything more.

As long as the princess is happy.

In the afternoon, Li Baobei gradually became idle, lying on the soft couch and repeatedly examining the acacia bracelet.

She noticed that the beads of the bracelet emitted a faint red glow with a hint of purple, but it was not easily detected.

The surface of the bead looked as if it were covered with a layer of dust, making it appear dull and lackluster.

She kept wiping it with her handkerchief, but the beads didn't change at all.

The dust seemed to have blended into the beads.

That's enough!

She stood up, placed the bracelet in the jewelry box, closed the box, and sighed, "Perhaps I'm not meant to be this person!"

A faint, bitter smile played on her lips as she chuckled self-deprecatingly, "When did I start believing in these kinds of legendary tales?"

She shook her head and walked slowly toward the pavilion by the pond.

As the sun sets in the west, golden light bathes the earth.

Li Baobei watched as the last rays of sunlight disappeared.

She sat on the balustrade of the pavilion and murmured to herself, "Why hasn't Lord He arrived yet? Is he very busy? Will he be spending the New Year alone again this year?"

She lazily rested her hands on the pavilion's railing, gently propped her head up, and closed her eyes to rest.

Just wait patiently!

A gentle, warm voice rang out: "Nannan, are you hungry?"

Li Baobei quickly opened her eyes and looked at He You, sweetly calling out, "Lord He! You've finally arrived."

He You was dressed in a navy blue brocade robe, with a silver-black fox fur draped over his shoulders.

At this moment, Li Baobei suddenly thought of a line of poetry she had once seen: "Thinking of the gentleman, his gentleness is like jade."

She stood up and asked in a mischievous tone, "Lord He, aren't you afraid of being mistaken for a thief and arrested one day by climbing over people's walls every day?"

He You looked at her with sincere eyes, his gaze as clear as a lake, captivating all who looked into it.

He said emotionally, "As long as I can see Nannan, nothing else matters."

Li Baobei took his hand and continued, "Lord He, shall we have our New Year's Eve dinner first, and then play with fireworks later?"

He You nodded gently, "Okay."

The two walked toward the main hall. The servants who passed by were not surprised at all, as if seeing He You in the princess's mansion was a very normal thing.

Li Baobei held a bowl of red bean porridge and looked at him with big eyes, "Lord He, please have some red bean porridge to warm your stomach first!"

He You gracefully picked up the spoon and took a small sip.

It has a sweet taste and a soft, chewy texture.

"Not bad," he said, then took another sip.

"Haha, I told you it was alright! I hope that adults will think of me whenever they see red bean porridge in the future, that would be the best."

She blinked her bright eyes at He You, then picked up her chopsticks and placed a piece of braised pork on He You's plate.

She murmured, "You're too thin, sir. You must eat more. This is also quite delicious. Here, take it."

After saying that, she picked up another piece of fish and gave it to He You.

"Sir, you must try this. I especially love it."

She saw the lion's head meatballs in the soup; they looked nice.

He continued to scoop the lion's head meatballs into He You's bowl with a soup spoon.

He You, holding the chopsticks, was momentarily at a loss for where to begin. A charming smile appeared on her lips as she thought to herself, "Nan Nan really cares about me!"

Li Baobei picked up a piece of taro and chewed it, then turned to look at He You.

She then realized that He You was staring straight at her, and her face instantly turned red.

"Do I look particularly rude?" Li Baobei awkwardly picked up the tea beside her and drank it.

Cough cough cough...

She realized she had been drinking too fast and had choked on the water; she felt terrible.

He You gently patted her back, and she gradually felt much better.

She took out a handkerchief to wipe away the tears that had welled up from choking, and couldn't help but think to herself, "This is so incredibly embarrassing."

God, please don't treat me like this.

He You continued to gently pat her back to help her breathe, "Is Nan Nan alright?"

Li Baobei really wanted to find a crack in the ground to crawl into. She lowered her head and whispered, "It's much better now." Her face was still flushed.

She slowly raised her eyes to look at He You, "Why aren't you eating, Lord He? Is it not to your liking?"

Her clear eyes held a question as she looked at He You.

He You looked at her tenderly and replied, "I'm happy just watching you eat."

"Lord He, please eat more!" Li Baobei continued to serve food to He You, the blush on her face gradually fading.

He You always had a smile on her face and ate the food that Li Baobei picked for her with elegant movements.

This was the first time he had eaten New Year's Eve dinner during the Spring Festival, something he had longed for all these years.

After finishing their meal, the two strolled leisurely to the backyard, where Li Baobei and Bizhu had set off the fireworks earlier that afternoon.

Now all that's missing is people.

She led He You to the terrace by the pond and said excitedly, "My lord, I have a surprise for you today."

After saying that, she skipped away, leaving He You standing there watching her disappearing figure.
