Side Story 4: Gongsun Yu and Gongsun Lan

In a tranquil and peaceful courtyard, everything seemed so quiet and beautiful.

Sunlight filters through the dense foliage, casting dappled shadows and adding a touch of mystery to the courtyard.

In the center of the courtyard stands a tall and straight peach tree, which is in full bloom at this time of year.

Pink petals covered the branches, as beautiful and dazzling as clouds.

A gentle breeze blows, and the petals fall like a dreamlike rain of flowers. The petals are as light and graceful as snowflakes, exuding a delicate fragrance.

Li Baobei asked softly, "Heyou, if one day in the future I miss my parents and want to go home to visit them, will you agree?"

He You gently embraced Li Baobei and said affectionately, "Of course you can. Whenever and wherever you want to go back, I will accompany you without hesitation."

Li Baobei raised her head, gazed into He You's eyes, and said softly, "You are so wonderful, He You. Meeting you is probably the luckiest thing that has ever happened to me in my life."

He You didn't say much, but hugged Li Baobei tightly and gently replied, "Me too..."

The night was deep and all was quiet.

In the palace’s back garden, a pavilion stands all alone.

Suddenly, a dark figure swept across the courtyard like a ghost, alerting the guards.

They immediately shouted, "Protect the Emperor!"

Instantly, a large group of well-trained guards surged towards the dark figure like a tide, surrounding him and forming an impenetrable defensive line.

However, Gongsun Lan remained unusually calm in the face of such a tense situation.

His voice was deep and dignified, as if he were no longer the impetuous and spirited young man he once was, but a mature and steady king who had weathered many storms.

He simply waved his hand and casually ordered, "You may all leave!"

The guards dared not be negligent and respectfully retreated, but remained on high alert, closely watching the surrounding movements.

Then he shouted into the darkness, "Since you've come, why don't you show yourself?"

As soon as the words fell, a figure streaked across the night sky like a ghost, rushing towards the pavilion where Gongsun Lan was.

In the blink of an eye, He You was already sitting steadily on the stone table where Gongsun Lan was sitting, the two of them facing each other.

The two men in the pavilion were both imposing and elegant, but they remained silent and did not exchange many words.

"I thought you would leave without saying goodbye like last time~" Gongsun Lan said casually, his words revealing a sense of emotion after a long separation from an old friend.

"I just came to take a look and will leave tomorrow." He You's tone was calm and indifferent, making it difficult to fathom his true thoughts.

What followed was a long silence. The two sat quietly in the pavilion, neither of them saying another word.

Finally, He You slowly stood up, breaking the silence first, and said softly, "I should go."

"etc……"

Just then, Gongsun Lan suddenly spoke up, seemingly after much deliberation, and asked, "Do you think we will eventually come to be at odds with each other? What's there to worry about!"

His voice was loud and firm, echoing endlessly in the empty garden, as if it could penetrate the endless darkness and linger for a long time.

He You didn't look back, but simply lifted her foot and sped away into the darkness like a bird.

His figure gradually faded into the distance until it completely disappeared into the night, leaving only one sentence echoing in the air: "I will not offend you unless you offend me!"

Gongsun Lan gazed in the direction He You had gone, a slight smile playing on her lips as she murmured softly.

His gaze was fixed on the figure that had long since vanished, and an indescribable feeling welled up in his heart.

Recalling the first time he met He You, he felt that this young man, who was about the same age as him, was no ordinary person, and he often discussed various issues with him.

Who could have imagined that in less than a year, the decisive and efficient Vice Minister of the Court of Judicial Review would transform into the emperor of a neighboring country?

Life is unpredictable, and the world is full of uncertainties, which is truly lamentable.

After Gongsun Yu fell ill, Gongsun Lan naturally ascended to the throne.

Originally, it was thought that we would face both internal and external troubles, but now it seems that perhaps only internal concerns need to be addressed.

As for that person, Gongsun Lan knew him all too well; he knew that the other person was a man of his word and always kept his promises...
