late at night.
Royal family.
The study's thick wooden door was half-open, and a faint light refracted into the corridor, allowing Jiang Chen's respectful voice to be heard clearly.
"Master, we just received news today that those people are probably about to make a move."
Upon hearing this, the man behind the desk curled into a cold smile.
Those people failed once in the South City, how could they let it go?
"Strengthen the manpower around the old lady and make sure her safety is guaranteed."
After Jiang Chen respectfully replied with a "okay," his expression suddenly paused.
Yu Chiyan noticed his hesitation and his eyes turned cold.
"Is there anything else?"
Jiang Chen lowered her head, not daring to meet his gaze.
"Master, the old lady was rescued by Madam on the day she was in danger. Do you think those people will target Madam this time?"
Su Yaoyao ruined those people's plans, will they turn against her?
The man's tall body stiffened slightly, a hint of surprise flashing in his dark eyes before he frowned.
"Are you sure it was Su Yaoyao who saved her?"
Jiang Chen nodded; "That's true, but it seems that Madam doesn't know that the person she saved was the old lady."
Yu Chiyan suddenly realized why Su Yaoyao hadn't asked him for anything.
It turned out that she had no idea who the person she was saving was.
Yu Chiyan narrowed his eyes, his expression incredibly complex as he thought about what had happened a few days ago and the truth he had learned today.
Could it be that Su Yaoyao wasn't as despicable, shameless, and vain as he imagined?
After all, why would someone with questionable character risk their life to save someone?
...
The following afternoon.
Sunlight pierced through the clouds and fell upon the woman with a cool and aloof demeanor, bathing her in a hazy, holy light, making her look like a goddess descended from the heavens.
"Young Miss, the master invites you in."
The maid pushed open the door, her tone nonchalant, and looked at Su Yaoyao as if she were some kind of trash.
However, Su Yaoyao acted as if she hadn't seen it. The first thing she did after leaving the hospital was to come to the Su family to retrieve her mother's ashes.
The cooperation with the Yu family has been finalized, so shouldn't they fulfill their promise now?
In the hall, Su Hai and Chen Huimei sat together, with Su Qingqing next to them. When she saw Su Yaoyao come in, she immediately became restless.
"Sister, you're really something, managing to get my man to personally take you to the hospital."
Her words implied that Su Yaoyao had seduced her man.
Su Hai frowned upon hearing this; "You've already married Yu Chiyan, so you must uphold the virtues of a wife."
Su Hai's words only made her want to sneer.
Shouldn't a normal father first ask why she went to the hospital?
But what about her father?
Did he think he was being unfaithful because of Su Qingqing's words?
"Dad, don't worry. Any man who would be interested in Su Qingqing is either mentally challenged or blind. Even if I wanted to cheat on him, I wouldn't choose a man like that."
Upon hearing this, Su Qingqing's face turned pale, but she also breathed a sigh of relief.
"Then you'd better stay with your good-for-nothing husband and live a good life."
Don't even think about Yan Yu!
"Alright, everyone, say less."
Su Hai impatiently interrupted the two sisters' sarcastic remarks and looked at Su Yaoyao.
"If you're here to bully Qingqing today, then you can get lost."
His eyes were exceptionally cold, and he looked at her with utter disgust.
Su Yaoyao felt as if something had stabbed her in the chest, and her face turned even paler.
She couldn't understand why her biological father would look at her with such an expression, why he would be so biased, when it was clearly Su Qingqing who had been bullying her all along.
Suppressing her anger and grievances, Su Yaoyao spoke in a cold voice.
"You promised me that if I helped you secure the cooperation from the Yu family, I would get my mother's ashes. You've already signed the contract with the Yu family, shouldn't you give me the things now?"
Su Hai's eyes flickered slightly, and Chen Huimei suddenly spoke up: "Want your mother's ashes back? It's not that easy."
Upon hearing this, Su Yaoyao took a deep breath.
It seems the Su family wants to back out.
A cold smile curled at the corner of her lips; "Could it be that you've been lying to me all along?"
Su Yaoyao's eyes turned cold, and her gaze became even more aggressive.
"You've been lying to me all along, haven't you? You don't have my mother's ashes at all. You just tricked me into marrying in her place and used me to curry favor with the Yu family, didn't you?"
Su Hai's expression changed slightly, and a hint of panic appeared deep in his eyes, but Chen Huimei held his hand tightly without making a sound.
"Yaoyao, I didn't expect you to doubt this. If you're really afraid I'm lying to you, why don't I show you the thing first?"
Su Yaoyao's attention was completely drawn to Chen Huimei, and she did not notice Su Hai's unusual behavior.
Her intention in saying this was to question the authenticity of the ashes being in the Su family's possession, and also, she wanted to blast out the ashes from there.
Chen Huimei brought it up herself, and of course she was extremely happy to oblige.
Seeing her doubtful expression, Chen Huimei smiled and spoke to Wu Ma beside her.
"Go and bring down the box from that big square table in the attic."
Aunt Wu took the keys, nodded, and turned to leave.
Su Yaoyao knew about the attic; it was a place where miscellaneous items were usually piled up, and almost no one went there. Seeing that Chen Huimei carried the attic key with her, Su Yaoyao understood.
It seems that my mother's ashes are indeed in the Su family's attic.
Otherwise, why would she carry the key with her at all times for a storage room?
After a while, Aunt Wu came down carrying a small box. When Su Yaoyao saw the box, her eyes inexplicably became moist.
