When Su Yaoyao arrived at the hospital, Huo Xiting was sitting on the headboard in a daze. His head was wrapped in gauze, and he was wearing a blue and white hospital gown. The man's handsome face was pale, and his two sword-like eyebrows were furrowed together, as if he had something on his mind.
Hearing the door open, Huo Xiting hurriedly looked up and saw a beautiful figure, the only glimmer of light in his otherwise gloomy eyes.
"Yaoyao, you've arrived?"
Compared to Huo Xiting's excitement, Su Yaoyao seemed much calmer. Her gaze swept over Huo Xiting twice, her eyes trembling slightly.
"How did it get like this?"
Huo Xiting smiled, completely unconcerned about his injuries, and looked at Su Yaoyao with deep affection in his eyes.
"I'm fine, as long as you're alright."
Su Yaoyao felt a mix of emotions. She looked at Huo Xiting and couldn't help but complain.
"They're the children I raised, how could I be so heartless..."
Upon hearing this, a glint of light flashed in Huo Xiting's eyes.
"Yaoyao, how did you know me..."
Su Yaoyao picked up an apple from the fruit basket and peeled it while answering Huo Xiting's questions.
“I know you must have gone to your uncle for help, but if you ask him to defy public opinion to save me, he will definitely be angry, and if he is angry, it means he will definitely make things difficult for you…”
Su Yaoyao spoke softly, and when she got to this point, her hand paused slightly, almost breaking the intact fruit peel. She then focused her attention and glanced at his bandaged knee.
"I just didn't expect my uncle to go to such lengths."
Huo Xiting noticed her gaze and awkwardly shielded his eyes.
"It's nothing, just a minor injury, it'll be fine in a couple of days."
Su Yaoyao neither agreed nor disagreed with these words.
She cut the peeled apple into small pieces, placed them in a fruit bowl, rinsed them with drinking water, and then inserted toothpicks before serving them to Huo Xiting.
"Try it, is it sweet?"
Looking at the clean, white fruit on the plate, Huo Xiting's mind was filled with the image of her bustling about earlier. Huo Xiting felt a tingling, numbing sensation in his heart, and his heart melted.
He took a toothpick, picked up a piece of fruit, put it in his mouth, and bit down. It was crisp, sweet, and juicy, and the sweet taste permeated his heart.
For the first time, Huo Xiting realized that apples were so delicious.
The plate of fruit was quickly finished. Su Yaoyao took the plate outside to wash it, and unexpectedly, she ran into Yu Chiyan again.
He was still wearing the same clothes he had worn during the day, his suit jacket still covered in mud. The man's eyes were slightly closed, his face contorted in pain. A doctor in a white coat stood beside him, watching him with some impatience.
"Sir, you have no family members and no money to pay the fees. There's no use in you staying at our hospital. How about this, try to borrow some money from your friends first. If you don't pay, I can't examine your condition."
After hearing this, Su Yaoyao roughly understood what was going on.
Yu Chiyan was injured, but the emergency room wouldn't admit him because he didn't have the money to pay the fees.
Has he fallen so low as to be this destitute?
What about his good friends?
What about Jun Xian, Gu Tingmo, and Nan Jiangmu?
Thinking about all this, Su Yaoyao felt an indescribable bitterness in her heart, but her face remained completely unmoved as she brushed past the man without glancing at him.
The nurse was still saying something, but Yu Chiyan couldn't hear her anymore. He saw Su Yaoyao pass by him and, almost instinctively, reached out and grabbed her.
The man's large hands were exceptionally hot, and Su Yaoyao instantly realized that Yu Chiyan had a fever.
"Su Yaoyao, so you've come here?"
His breath was hot, making her ears feel hot. Su Yaoyao's hands trembled slightly. She felt a gaze scrutinizing her from the end of the corridor.
Su Yaoyao's expression turned cold, and she forcefully shook off Yu Chiyan's large hand.
The man staggered back two steps uncontrollably, barely managing to steady himself against the wall so he wouldn't fall to the ground.
Su Yaoyao's gaze met his, and sparks seemed to fly in the air. Her voice was cold and indifferent.
"Mr. Yu, please don't pull me around, or I'll sue you for sexual harassment."
Perhaps due to his injury and fever, his body was somewhat weak, causing his eyes to lose their usual fierceness, replaced by vulnerability and a trace of barely perceptible helplessness.
"Su Yaoyao, don't even think about dumping me."
Su Yaoyao scoffed at his words; "Yu Chiyan, when you had power and influence, you only protected Su Qingqing. Now that you're down on your luck, you're shamelessly licking my boots and refusing to leave. You say I'm disgusting, but if you ask me, you're the one who's more despicable."
The hurtful words left their lips made breathing painful for both of them at that moment.
Su Yaoyao's hands, which were holding the fruit plate, were almost white. She glanced coldly at the swaying Yu Chiyan, then turned and left without looking back.
As soon as she left, the people hiding in the shadows couldn't help but come out.
Su Qingqing's eyes were filled with tears and heartache; "Chi Yan, what happened to you? How did you get into this state?"
Yu Chiyan leaned against the wall, panting heavily. Although Su Qingqing's expression showed great worry, she maintained a certain distance from Yu Chiyan throughout.
Su Qingqing looked at his mud-stained suit jacket, her eyes hiding disgust, but in order to leave a good impression on Yu Chiyan, she still looked worried. She hurriedly called the doctor to examine Yu Chiyan, and then took her own card to handle various procedures.
Fortunately, Yu Chiyan only suffered minor fractures and abrasions, and apart from a slight fever, he was otherwise fine.
