Ren Yaoqi and Xiao Jinglin changed their clothes and followed Yun Qiuchen out.
Yun Qiuping and Yun Qiufang had finished choosing clothes and were looking at the jewelry.
Yun Qiuchen didn't even bother looking at the few remaining pieces. He simply instructed the maid to put the clothes away in the box. Then, he glanced at the opened jewelry boxes and said, "The headpieces and jewelry were all picked out by Grandma a while ago. One for each of us. Cousin Ren, take my share."
Ren Yaoqi shook his head and smiled, "I'll accept the clothes, but I don't need any headgear or jewelry. When I get back, my grandmother and mother will prepare them for me."
This time, Yun Qiuchen didn't force it. Her words were merely polite. She only had one set of headwear and jewelry, all hand-picked by Old Madam Yun and the First Madam. Calling again would be time-consuming.
Yun Qiufang, however, opened her round eyes and said innocently, "Big sister, I like your ruby peony hairpin. Can I exchange it with my plum blossom hairpin?"
Yun Qiuchen didn't take it seriously and said magnanimously, "If you like it, go ahead and change it. What about Second Sister? Is there anything you want to change?"
Yun Qiuping glanced at Yun Qiuchen and shook her head, still looking taciturn.
Yun Qiuchen nodded and instructed the maid, "Send the clothes and jewelry to the two young ladies' residence, and send the princess's and Ren's cousin's clothes to the carriage."
After thinking for a moment, Yun Qiuchen said to Yun Qiuping and Yun Qiufang, "Would you two like to go with us to see the eldest and second brothers, or go back and try on some clothes and jewelry first?"
Yun Qiufang was young and loved beauty very much. She was thinking about outshining all the other beauties at the banquet. Upon hearing this, she immediately said, "My second sister and I should go back and try on some clothes first." She then pulled Yun Qiufang along with her.
Yun Qiuchen nodded: "Then we will wait for you in the side hall."
In this way, the two sisters were sent away without a trace. However, Yun Qiuping raised her eyes slightly when she left and glanced at Yun Qiuchen and Xiao Jinglin.
Yun Qiuchen took Ren Yaoqi and Xiao Jinglin to a side hall.
The eldest and second young masters of the Yun family, Yun Wenting, and Yun Wenfang, were sitting in a side hall, drinking tea and chatting, when they saw the three people walk in. Yun Wenting's gaze paused on Xiao Jinglin, a gentle and humble smile on his face as he stood and bowed. Yun Wenfang also stood and bowed, but his eyes were unreservedly fixed on Ren Yaoqi, and when he saw Ren Yaoqi looking over, he raised an eyebrow.
Ren Yaoqi knelt down to greet them both, and then, at the invitation of Yun Qiuchen, he and Xiao Jinglin sat down opposite them.
Ren Yaoqi could only feign ignorance at the sudden appearance of the Yun brothers and sip his tea. Xiao Jinglin wasn't much of a talker either, so once they sat down, Yun Qiuchen and Yun Wenting chatted about trivial matters. Yun Wenfang, on the other hand, sipped his tea while observing Ren Yaoqi with a frank gaze.
He stared at her for so long that Ren Yaoqi could only suppress her displeasure and frown secretly.
Just as he was thinking of hinting to Xiao Jinglin to find a reason to leave, Yun Qiuchen said, "The princess and cousin Yaoqi are silent, which makes my brother and I seem noisy and annoying. There are only a few of us brothers and sisters here, no outsiders. The princess and cousin Yaoqi should not be restrained."
Yun Qiuchen glanced at Ren Yaoqi as he spoke. He seemed more friendly and approachable than when Yun Qiufang and Yun Qiuping were around. Even their address was more intimate.
Her "no outsiders" made Ren Yaoqi's heart move, and he couldn't guess whether Miss Yun was hinting at something.
