Chapter 417 Explanation (1/3)

Ren Yaoqi saw the maids' nervous expressions and shook her head: "I'm not angry."

She wasn't angry just because Xiao Jingxi said a few words to another woman, but Yan Ningshuang's behavior made her feel a little unhappy.

Yan Ningshuang came to the Yanbei Palace in the same carriage with Zhao Yingqiu. The princess had already sent someone to take them to the car. As a result, Zhao Yingqiu and the carriage had left, but Yan Ningshuang had not left yet. It was really painstaking of her.

Apple and the others felt a little relieved when they saw that Ren Yaoqi's face was relatively gentle. With the wedding date approaching, no one wanted anything more serious to happen.

The carriage slowly drove out of the Yanbei Palace, and Ren Yaoqi did not look outside the carriage.

Although Ren Yaoqi didn't look outside, the maids were worried. Le Shan, who was sitting next to the carriage, would occasionally secretly lift the curtain to take a look outside, wanting to see if the Xiao family's second son would shake off Yan Ningshuang and catch up.

Ren Yaoqi noticed Leshan's actions, but didn't say anything and let her go.

After leaving the Yanbei Palace, the carriage headed towards Baoping Hutong. This area was populated by scholars from the academy and other scholars. During the day, it was quieter and less bustling than the other residential alleys. The main streets outside the hutong were mostly filled with calligraphy and painting shops, antique seal shops, and the like, so it was nowhere near as bustling as Zhengyang Street.

When their carriage turned into the street in front of Baoping Hutong, Leshan still refused to give up and wanted to look back. Ren Yaoqi sighed and was about to speak, but when he looked up, he saw a man walking out of a seal shop across the street. At a quick glance, the tea bowl and the lid in Ren Yaoqi's hand suddenly made a crisp sound.

Although the sound was not loud, the carriage was very quiet, so Le Shan was frightened and quickly lowered the curtain. She thought Ren Yaoqi was angry, and quickly admitted her mistake and lowered her head to admit her mistake: "I know my mistake."

Ren Yaoqi seemed not to have heard Leshan's words. She blinked slowly, then suddenly shouted "Stop the car."

The woman driving the carriage outside heard it and responded, then began to slow down. Several maids were confused as they saw Ren Yaoqi move to the side of the carriage and pulled open the curtain. At this time, the carriage was already some distance away from the seal shop.

Ren Yaoqi looked through the car and only managed to see a man in a green shirt walking leisurely in the opposite direction from her.

The man was tall and slender, his back to them, so his features and age were unavailable. Though dressed like a scholar, he looked rather languid, as if nothing in the world caught his eye or mind. He was speaking to his servant with his head slightly tilted to one side. Even without being able to see him face-to-face, Ren Yaoqi could tell he must have lowered his gaze. A careless smile played at the corner of his mouth, as if he were forever asleep. You couldn't tell whether he was looking at you or just a blank space.

Ren Yaoqi stared at the man's back in a daze, forgetting how to react for a moment. That was until the man turned into another street and disappeared.

"Miss? What's wrong with you?" Le Shan asked cautiously. She mustered up the courage to peek outside, but saw nothing. There were only a few people walking on the street, and they were all strangers.

Ren Yaoqi gradually came back to her senses, and then realized that she had lost her composure. She lowered the curtain, pursed her lips and said softly: "It's okay, I recognized the wrong person."
