Chapter 462: Son-in-law (1/2)

Ren Yaoqi followed Li to Ren Shimin's study in the west wing.

The door of the study was tightly closed, and the maids and servants waiting outside all had expressions of surprise and doubt on their faces. They seemed to want to listen to the noise inside but did not dare to go near, because Master Ren had issued a clear order that the maids and servants must wait under the eaves and were not allowed to go near without permission, otherwise they would be severely punished.

So even though there was a commotion in the study just now, no one dared to break in, so they could only go to the main room to find Li and Ren Yaoqi.

When Ren Yaoqi and Li walked to the door of the study, there was no sound of quarreling inside. Li even walked to the place near the door and listened carefully, then frowned and shook her head gently at Ren Yaoqi.

Ren Yaoqi thought for a moment, gestured to Apple, and walked over to knock on the door. "Daddy? Your daughter brought you some hot tea. Can you come in?"

After a moment, Master Ren's voice rang out through the door in the study: "Come in." No emotion could be detected in his voice.

Almost as soon as Mr. Ren finished speaking, Apple produced a tea tray from somewhere, with two tea bowls on it, which looked hot.

Ren Yaoqi took the tea bowl from Pingguo and pushed open the door of the study. As soon as the door opened, she saw a broken celadon brush washer on the ground. This brush washer was originally placed on the desk in the study. It was a set with the pen holder and was Mr. Ren's favorite thing.

Ren Yaoqi's eyelids couldn't help but twitch.

Li had originally thought that everything was fine after hearing Master Ren's voice, and wanted to wait for Ren Yaoqi to go in before leaving. After all, Master Ren didn't like unrelated people entering his study. However, after seeing the broken brush washer on the ground, Li was startled and followed Ren Yaoqi in.

As Ren Yaoqi stepped in, Xiao Jingxi's voice rang out from the inner room: "Be careful with the debris on the ground, don't get hurt." The second young master Xiao's voice was still so gentle and pleasant, not at all like he had just had a quarrel with his father-in-law.

Ren Yaoqi and Li looked at each other, both a little confused.

Hearing the sound, Xiao Jingxi and Ren Shimin were in the room on the right, Ren Yaoqi walked over without hesitation, but when she lifted the bead curtain and saw the situation inside, she was stunned.

Ren Shimin was sitting cross-legged on a low table, drawing, while Xiao Jingxi sat beside him, watching with his head tilted. This scene didn't seem to be happening in the same room as Chunlan's description.

Xiao Jingxi looked up and smiled at Ren Yaoqi and Li, then stood up.

Ren Shimin also took the time to look up, and saw that Li had also come. He couldn't help but frowned: "Why are you here too? What's going on?"

Li looked at Ren Shimin carefully for a few times. She couldn't see any trace of anger on his face. She couldn't help but smile awkwardly. "Oh. I just wanted to come over and ask what you and your son-in-law would like to drink for lunch today. I remember that the master has a few jars of the best daughter's red wine hidden here."

Li's words were actually a test. When Ren Yaoqi was a child, Ren Shimin joked that he had buried several jars of daughter's red wine to drink with his younger daughter after she got married. The younger daughter Ren Shimin was referring to was naturally Ren Yaoqi. However, when Xiao Jingxi came today, Ren Shimin didn't give Li such instructions. Perhaps he was somewhat dissatisfied with Xiao Jingxi as his son-in-law.

Unexpectedly, Ren Shimin waved his hand nonchalantly at Li after hearing this: "It's just a few jars of wine. You can take people to dig them out and buy them under the tree in front of the study. You know that."

Li was stunned for a moment, then finally breathed a sigh of relief. Since Ren Shimin was willing to give his son-in-law the precious daughter's red wine that he had stored for more than ten years and specially brought from Baihe Town to Yunyang City, it meant that he did not have any major objections to Xiao Jingxi.

Furthermore, Master Ren and Xiao Jingxi were both dressed neatly, and neither of them looked injured. So, even though Li was still somewhat curious about what had just happened, she still agreed to Master Ren's words and withdrew. She didn't even take the initiative to have someone clean up the broken brush washers on the ground without Master Ren's explicit order.

Compared to her daughter, although Li was not a very smart person, she was better than anyone else in grasping Ren Shimin's temper. Therefore, although Li had suffered a lot from the elders of the Ren family over the years, Ren Shimin had never said a harsh word to her. Even Aunt Fang had been scolded by Master Ren.
