Chapter 167: Attack (3/3)

The young head of the Lei family was in a complicated mood at the moment. He was surprised, confused, and even a little wary.

After a while, he finally put away the letter in his hand, folded it and put it in his sleeve, then walked back without looking back.

Not long after they left, Liu Gui came over with a few guards.

Lei Ting stopped Liu Guidi from asking questions and sent the guard away.

Lei Ting didn't say anything on the way back until he was almost at the door of his house, when he suddenly stopped.

"Give the order and prepare for the funeral tomorrow morning." Although Lei Ting was still calm when he said this, Liu Gui felt as if he was squeezing it out from between his teeth.

But he was more shocked. "Master, if we bury the deceased tomorrow, wouldn't the coffin only be kept for three days? That's inappropriate, isn't it? ... And the Liu family should be here tomorrow afternoon. If we bury the deceased in the morning, it might just cause more rumors."

What Liu Gui didn't say was that the outside world was already in an uproar. Some people said that Madam Lei had committed suicide because of something bad, while others said that Madam Lei was murdered. It was obvious that someone was behind the incident and fanning the flames.

So even though Lei Ting hated the Liu family who had interfered and forced Madam Lei to commit suicide, he still planned to wait until the Liu family arrived before burying her. This was also what Madam Lei had instructed.

If the Lei family rushed to bury Madam Lei before the Liu family, the rumors would be even harder to stop. The Lei family could lose anything, but not their face. If they lost even that, they would have nothing left.

Lei Ting narrowed his eyes and said in a deep voice: "I know, do as I say!"

Although he didn't know what the purpose of the person who delivered the letter to him was, he had no choice.

He recalled the stubborn, crazy look in his grandmother's eyes before she died. That old woman, who had been stubborn and tough all her life, tightly grasped his hand and said word by word, "The Lei family cannot be destroyed in our hands! No, not even if we die."

Seeing Lei Ting's insistence, Liu Gui still lowered his head and agreed, but asked: "What if someone obstructs?"

The more they want to keep things quiet, the more someone will not let them have their way.

A sneer appeared on Lei Ting's lips: "I'm just worried they won't come."

"Master?" No matter how calm Liu Gui was, he was still a little surprised.

Lei Ting closed his eyes, the weariness on his face no longer concealed. "The funeral isn't really tomorrow. We're just trying to convince them we're holding it early to hide the truth. It's simply because of my incompetence that my grandmother is suffering again. She can't even rest in peace in death."

Liu Gui shook his head and said, "Master, you should understand the Madam. As long as the Lei family can be saved, the Madam will not care about these things."

"Yes, she doesn't care. But as her children and grandchildren, can't we not care? After all, I am incompetent." Lei Ting said in a hoarse voice.

He agreed to the plan in the letter because he understood his grandmother. To her, nothing was more important than their branch regaining its ancestral glory. She believed that everything could be sacrificed for this purpose.

On the second day, the sudden burial of Madam Lei caused quite a stir in Yunyang City.

Although the Lei family has deliberately kept a low profile, it still attracted a lot of attention.

The head of the Lei family explained that it was because his grandmother had appeared in a dream at night, so he asked a high-ranking monk to tell his fortune. The conclusion was that it would be better to keep the coffin for three days rather than seven. This chapter has been read (please click on the next chapter to continue reading!)
