Chapter 384: Planning and strategizing
Ren Shijia was delighted to see sisters Ren Yaoqi and Ren Yaohua come to see her together, even though they had only met a few days ago at Ren Yaoqi's coming-of-age ceremony. (You can find this site here)
Little Lincen could already walk and talk. He was white and chubby, smiling whenever he saw someone, and very lovable. Seeing someone he knew coming, he quickly climbed onto the kang table, grabbed two pieces of honey cake, and gave one to each of Ren Yaoqi and Ren Yaohua, looking at them eagerly: "Sister, eat some cake."
It made everyone in the room laugh non-stop.
Ren Shijia was now content with having a son, and her only wish was to see him grow up safely. However, because she had suffered so much in the past, as she watched her son grow up, she became more and more wary of the other branches of the Lin family, fearing that Cen'er would be harmed one day.
Ren Shijia had proposed to Lin Kun several times that they move out of the old Lin Mansion and start their own business, but Lin Kun had other plans in mind and did not agree to Ren Shijia's wishes. Ren Shijia was a gentle person, and the couple had never had a quarrel in their many years of marriage, but because of this incident, Ren Shijia and Lin Kun had quarreled several times.
Ren Shijia is a strong mother. For the sake of her son, she doesn't mind completely breaking up with the Lin family, but Lin Kun's obsession with the Lin family is too deep.
Ren Shijia and Ren Yaoqi discussed the Ren family's affairs. Ren Shijia was naturally aware of her family's current predicament. After the incident, Lin Kun and Fifth Elder Ren Shimao had gone to help. However, the Lin family had its own problems, and Lin Kun couldn't stay in Baihe Town forever. Besides, he was only a son-in-law, and Old Master Ren might not trust him wholeheartedly. So Lin Kun simply returned, only helping out when the Ren family needed his help.
Ren Shijia was naturally worried about her mother's family, but she had never asked about what was happening outside, so even if she was worried, it was only with her heart.
Ren Yaoqi held Lin Cen in his arms, peeling pine nuts for him while asking Ren Shijia, "Is my uncle out?"
Ren Shijia wiped Lin Cen's mouth with a handkerchief. "It's the end of the month, isn't it? He's meeting the shopkeeper in the outer courtyard and will be back in the inner courtyard for lunch. You should stay for dinner today too. A while ago, Fifth Brother had some wild delicacies brought back from the Northeast and gave some to me. It's a good time for the kitchen to prepare a few new dishes to try."
Since leaving the Ren family to strike out on his own, Master Ren Shimao, the Fifth Master, has expanded his business considerably. Besides his calligraphy and painting shop, he's also opened a shop specializing in rare and exotic goods, selling local specialties all day long. Business is surprisingly brisk. Her kitchen often receives a variety of delicacies from the land and sea delivered by the shop assistants from Ren Shimao's shop. Master Lin Wu, now well-off, is generous to his brothers and sisters.
As expected, Lin Kun came back before lunch was served in the inner courtyard. Ren Yaoqi and Ren Yaohua stood up to greet him, and he greeted them gently.
Lin Cen quickly climbed down from the kang, ran to Lin Kun, hugged his legs, and smiled so hard that his teeth were showing: "Daddy, hold me."
Lin Kun didn't play the game of hugging his grandson but not his own son. He bent down and picked up his son, letting him sit on his arms. He gently pinched his chubby little round face and asked with a smile, "Brother Cen, were you good today? Did you make mother angry?"
Lin Cen bit her fingers and laughed foolishly. Ren Shijia couldn't stand it anymore, so she stepped forward to take Lin Cen and said angrily, "Go in quickly, change your clothes and wash your hands before holding your son."
Lin Kun didn't care and went into the inner room with a smile.
Lin Cen broke free from Ren Shijia's embrace and got off the ground, striding after his father with his short legs: "Daddy, Daddy..."
Looking at his son's back, Ren Shijia half-seriously and half-jokingly complained to Ren Yaoqi and Ren Yaohua: "The heartless little boy only knows how to pester his father." Although he said so, there was a smile in Ren Shijia's eyes.
Ren Yaoqi couldn't help but smile when watching the interaction between the family of three.
After finishing their meal in Ren Shijia's yard, Cen Ge'er had the habit of taking a nap, so Ren Shijia took his son to the inner room to coax him to sleep. Ren Yaoqi and Ren Yaohua took the opportunity to say goodbye.
It just so happened that Lin Kun also wanted to go to the outer courtyard, so he went out with the two sisters.
