Ren Yaoqi had no choice but to accept the box that Concubine Yun gave her: "Thank you, Concubine."
Concubine Yun nodded and sat in silence for a while. She waved her hand and said, "You guys go down and rest. You're tired today. Tell the princess that I won't be coming over this afternoon."
Xiao Jinglin and Ren Yaoqi responded, then stood up and walked out.
After walking a long way away from Feiwu Pavilion, Xiao Jinglin and Ren Yaoqi looked at each other, then returned to Lanyue Pavilion in silence.
The two of them went to the princess together with the jewelry box given by the princess dowager.
The princess opened their jewelry boxes and looked at them, then said casually, "Just keep them."
Seeing that there were no outsiders in the room, Xiao Jinglin spoke very bluntly: "Mom, doesn't grandma dislike Yaoqi? What happened today?"
It made sense for Concubine Yun to give her jewelry. After all, she was her grandmother, and while her attitude was usually rather cold, she still gave her gifts during festivals and was quite nice to her. However, the last time they met, it was obvious that Concubine Yun had a problem with Ren Yaoqi. Why did her attitude change so quickly?
The princess did not directly answer Xiao Jinglin's question. She thought for a moment and turned to look at Ren Yaoqi: "What do you think, Yaoqi?"
Ren Yaoqi looked at the princess and felt a little embarrassed. After all, she was not a member of the Xiao family. The princess and Concubine Yun were the mother-in-law and aunt.
The princess smiled and said, "There are no outsiders here. Say whatever you think. No one will blame you if you are wrong."
Ren Yaoqi asked tentatively, "Is it because of what happened yesterday?"
The princess smiled and nodded: "You are a smart child. So take it with peace of mind."
Ren Yaoqi glanced at the princess, nodded, and said nothing more.
Xiao Jinglin was about to ask when Nanny Xin came in, apparently wanting to report something to the princess. Seeing this, Ren Yaoqi and Xiao Jinglin had no choice but to leave.
When they returned to their room, Xiao Jinglin asked Ren Yaoqi, "You just said that Grandma's attitude changed because of what happened yesterday?"
Ren Yaoqi nodded, handed the jewelry box to the maid to put away, and then pulled Xiao Jinglin to sit on the kang. "If it wasn't Yun Qiuchen and Yun Wenfang yesterday, but someone from another family, how would the Yanbei Palace deal with them?"
Xiao Jinglin thought for a moment and said, "It's hard to say whether I can save my life."
"Then why are Yun Qiuchen and Yun Wenfang okay?" Ren Yaoqi asked with a raised eyebrow.
Xiao Jinglin understood immediately: "Of course it's because I have my grandmother's protection."
Seeing that Xiao Jinglin understood, Ren Yaoqi said no more.
Concubine Yun saved Yun Qiuchen and Yun Wenfang, allowing them to return to the Yun family unharmed, and did not pursue the Yun family's responsibility. This was naturally due to the compromise of the Yanbei Palace.
Concubine Yun understood this and gave the princess and Xiao Jingxi some face. So today, Concubine Yun rescued her, invited her to dinner, and even sent her a box of jewelry. In fact, it was because she felt guilty towards the princess and Xiao Jingxi.
Although Ren Yaoqi knew that Concubine Yun did this not because she had changed her mind about her, she did not feel disgusted by her behavior.
As the biological mother of the King of Yanbei, the mother-in-law of the Princess, and the grandmother of Xiao Jingxi, Concubine Yun didn't take her actions for granted. At least after shielding her family, she understood that she was in the wrong and knew how to make amends. There are too many people in this world who like to take advantage of their status, seniority, and age to do whatever they want. In comparison, Concubine Yun is more forgivable.
As for whether Concubine Yun liked her or not, Ren Yaoqi didn't force it. No one could be perfect and be liked by everyone, so being able to respect each other was good enough.
After a break at noon, the Qianjin Banquet continued in the afternoon.
