"Sorry, this is my family affair." Ren Yaoqi said with his head down.
Xiao Jingxi thought for a moment, then said thoughtfully, "Let's play chess. If you win, I won't ask any questions, and Zhu Ruomei will go with you. If you lose, you must tell me the reason, and Zhu Ruomei will be mine from now on. Her life or death has nothing to do with you."
His voice was still calm and gentle, but the words that came out of it left Ren Yaoqi dumbfounded.
But although the curve of Xiao Jingxi's mouth was elegant and perfect, his words did not sound like a joke.
Ren Yaoqi was slightly angry, but the smile on his face softened a bit. "Second Young Master Xiao, isn't this a bit unreasonable?"
Xiao Jingxi smiled and asked kindly, "How can I force you to do something? I was the one who saved Zhu Ruomei, otherwise he would have fallen off the cliff and died. As for the family affairs you mentioned..."
Xiao Jingxi glanced at Ren Yaoqi with a half-smile.
Ren Yaoqi was speechless again.
Since she opened her eyes again, she had never been humiliated by anyone. But this person was Xiao Jingxi.
Others always described him as brilliant and intelligent. But now Ren Yaoqi felt that this man must be a thousand-year-old fox transformed into a spirit.
Ren Yaoqi bit his lip secretly. Xiao Jingxi seemed to know that Ren Yaoqi had already agreed, and said with a smile: "Bring me my chess pieces."
His voice was not loud, but the servant who had brought tea earlier heard it. After a while, he came out with a chessboard. Walking behind him was a man of medium build who was dressed similarly to him. Ren Yaoqi looked up and was slightly stunned.
The one walking behind that guy, holding two chess pots in his hands, was Dongsheng.
Dongsheng and the other man both placed the things in their hands gently on the stone table without looking away, and then quietly retreated. But before leaving, Dongsheng couldn't help but raise his eyes and glance at Ren Yaoqi.
Xiao Jingxi noticed Ren Yaoqi's gaze and said with some amusement: "My Si Tongxi and Ren Wujie also have some connection."
Congratulations? He even changed Dongsheng's name?
Ren Yaoqi took a few white chess pieces and looked at them for a while, and found that they were exactly the same as the set of "Snow Seals" made of Go stones that she had seen from the abbot before.
"That's really a woman's honor." Ren Yaoqi replied indifferently.
Xiao Jingxi didn't think it was a problem and smiled slightly: "How about letting you play black?" He actually indulged him like coaxing a child.
Ren Yaoqi smiled back at him: "No, guess."
She dared not take advantage of him, Zhu Ruomei was a lesson for her.
Xiao Jingxi didn't care and gestured to Ren Yaoqi to start with a smile.
Ren Yaoqi casually grabbed a few more white pieces and glanced at Xiao Jingxi.
"Double." He slowly lowered his head and took a sip of tea without even looking at the ground.
Ren Yaoqi opened her hands and counted: "It's an odd number." She played black.
Mr. Pei is a chess fanatic. In his previous life, Ren Yaoqi played countless games with Mr. Pei and even studied with him some endgames recorded in rare books. His chess skills were honed day by day.
So Han Yunqian is no match for her either.
However, after only a few moves, Ren Yaoqi felt that Xiao Jingxi was different from any opponent she had ever encountered.
