Xiao Jingxi noticed Ren Yaoqi's momentary distraction and raised his eyebrows slightly.
The dishes arrived quickly. Hongying and another maid of Xiao Jinglin went out to set the table, without asking anyone from the restaurant to do it. Ren Yaoqi believed that someone must be watching in the kitchen as well.
There weren't so many things to pay attention to when he had dinner with Xiao Jinglin a few times before. Ren Yaoqi couldn't help but glance at Xiao Jingxi, and then he understood a little. He couldn't help but sigh that the Yanbei Palace was really a strange place. Raising a son required much more attention than raising a daughter.
Xiao Jingxi was very observant and immediately caught Ren Yaoqi's gaze, which made him feel a little puzzled.
Seeing that the arrangements outside were almost complete, Xiao Jinglin pulled Ren Yaoqi up and said to Xiao Jingxi expressionlessly, "She just thinks you're too delicate and not as easy to get along with as me. She doesn't mean anything else."
Ren Yaoqi turned his head away silently.
Princess, are you really being kind enough to help me explain?
Ren Yaoqi didn't know if she was dazzled, but she saw the blue veins on Xiao Jingxi's forehead twitching under his perfect smile.
Ren Yaoqi coughed lightly and felt that she should say a few words to ease the atmosphere: "I want to thank Mr. Xiao because he has been troubled by having me as a female relative." She admitted that she was the pampered one, not the young man who was not easy to mess with.
However, Xiao Jinglin didn't appreciate it and opened her mouth to say something else. Ren Yaoqi was afraid she would list some of Xiao Jingxi's "delicate" qualities, so she hurriedly pulled her along and walked a few steps faster, interrupting with a smile, "I rarely eat in restaurants outside. Come to think of it, the two times I went out were both with the princess."
Xiao Jinglin didn't continue, but just followed her words and said, "There aren't many restaurants in Yunyang City where you can eat. There are only two or three. We should go and try them later."
Xiao Jingxi walked out slowly, without any trace of embarrassment on his face.
Because they were both boys and girls, and not all of them were blood relatives, it was not appropriate for them to eat at the same table. So the maids brought in three tables, two for Ren Yaoqi and Xiao Jinglin, placed side by side, with Xiao Jingxi sitting across from them, similar to the arrangement at some banquets.
I guess Xiao Jinglin doesn't like eating like this, so she complains about Xiao Jingxi's arrangement.
However, Ren Yaoqi also felt that although there were no outsiders present except the three of them and a few maids, appropriate rules should still be followed. She did not think that Xiao Jingxi's arrangement was bad because, generally speaking, she was still a person who followed the rules.
Tan Kee’s signature dish is roast duck, served with crispy roasted noodles, which looks so appetizing.
In addition to a plate of sliced roast duck, there were several other hot dishes on the low table for her and Xiao Jinglin, both meat and vegetables, and the colors were beautiful.
However, the dishes on Xiao Jingxi's table were extremely light. There was no red or green color at all. They were all watery soups, and most of them were vegetarian.
Ren Yaoqi remembered that Xiao Jingxi was in poor health, so he must have to avoid certain foods when eating.
The meal was not uncomfortable at all, even with Xiao Jingxi present.
From beginning to end, Xiao Jingxi sat there quietly, lowering his head to eat, picking up the dishes by himself, and not asking anyone to serve him. I don’t know if it was because of what Xiao Jinglin just said. This chapter has been read (please click on the next chapter to continue reading!)
