Normally, Mrs. Ren should have finished her lunch and was about to take a nap, but today she was sitting on the south kang in the right side room with Mr. Ren and chatting.
Seeing Ren Yaoqi come in, Old Master Ren was the first to say with a smile: "Fifth girl is back? Have you had dinner?"
Old Mrs. Ren also smiled at Ren Yaoqi, the dimples on her face making her look particularly kind: "There is hot lotus soup in the kitchen."
Ren Yaoqi stepped forward and bowed: "Thank you, Grandpa and Grandma, for your concern. Your granddaughter has already eaten."
Old Madam Ren waved to her and pointed to the seat next to her and said, "Come over here and sit down to talk."
Ren Yaoqi looked at the "throne" next to Old Lady Ren, thought for a moment, then lowered her head and walked forward, sitting on the brocade stool next to it. She said shyly, "Granddaughter, I'd better sit here so that I can listen to the teachings of my grandparents."
Old Master Ren stroked his beard and laughed.
Old Mrs. Ren said angrily, "You child..." Thinking that she was shy, she did not force her.
"Where did you go for fun with the princess today?" Old Master Ren finally started asking questions.
"First, I went for a walk outside the city, but found that there was nothing fun outside the city, so I went back to the city. Because the princess doesn't like crowded and noisy places, she just found an inconspicuous restaurant to have lunch. Then she came back." Ren Yaoqi said honestly.
"Oh? Outside the city? Is it near our Ren family's coal mine?" Old Master Ren said thoughtfully.
Ren Yaoqi's heart churned. What did Old Master Ren mean by this? Did he think Xiao Jinglin had ulterior motives for coming to the Ren family, or that the Yanbei Palace was interested in the Ren family's coal mine?
He continued without hesitation, "I hadn't noticed it before, but now that I've heard your name, I remember it. We also ran into the Ren family's camel team transporting coal on the road. I think it must be near the coal mine."
Old Master Ren and Old Madam Ren looked at each other, both of them with deep thought in their eyes.
"What did the princess talk about with you? Did she mention anything about our Ren family?" asked Old Mrs. Ren.
Ren Yaoqi pretended to think for a moment and said, "It wasn't anything about the Ren family. He did chat with me for a while about the horses and camels that transported coal."
Old Master Ren frowned and pondered: "Horses and camels?"
Ren Yaoqi nodded.
"Is there anything else? I heard that the princess asked you to send away everyone around you and only leave a maid to serve you?" the old lady asked again.
"The princess doesn't like having people around her, so she asked me to send them away. The princess told me about some of the things she encountered outside the Great Wall, and also asked me how I passed the time in the boudoir. As for other things... I don't know what the old lady is referring to?" Ren Yaoqi asked puzzledly.
"Did the princess come to Baihe Town alone this time?" asked Old Master Ren.
"It seems that she came with the second son of the Xiao family. The second son of the Xiao family wanted to do something, so the princess came to me."
Old Madam Ren's smile grew even kinder. "How long will they stay in Baihe Town? Since you're so familiar with the princess, our Ren family must show their hospitality and treat them to a good feast. If we could invite Second Young Master Xiao as well, that would be even better."
Old Master Ren also nodded with a smile on his face: "Your grandmother is right. Can you see if you can post another one for the princess?" This chapter has been read (please click on the next chapter to continue reading!)
