Chapter 195 Feeding

Chapter 195 Feeding

Wen Zhiming's resting tent was not far from the central tent, separated only by a few tents.

After being separated for two months, the two reunited, and their affection for each other was even stronger than before. Seeing that Meng Lingge did not refuse, Wen Zhiming gently put the face mask back on Meng Lingge.

The two walked out hand in hand.

The three generals in the military camp, Cao Ran, Ren Yang, and Liu Fuling (who has now been promoted to commander-in-chief), all knew Meng Lingge. They would meet with her frequently in the future, so Meng Lingge's identity could not be kept from them.

Two days prior, Wen Zhiming had informed the group of Meng Lingge's arrival. He also told them that the Emperor's decree for divorce was invalid, that Meng Lingge was his only wife and now his princess, but that to protect the Meng family, her identity should not be revealed to the public for the time being.

Cao Ran and the other two had no objection to this. Meng Lingge was the princess consort of the Northern Frontier King, which meant that they had won over another civil official in the court. Moreover, Meng Xingyuan was considered the head of the civil officials in the capital. With his help, they would have a better chance of conquering the capital in the future.

Cao Ran and his two companions would not reveal Meng Lingge's identity, but many of the lower-ranking officers and guards in the military camp knew Meng Lingge. It was impossible to explain to them one by one, and these people were not entirely trustworthy.

Therefore, it would be safer for Meng Lingge to wear a face mask in the military camp.

Along the way, the guards were quite surprised to see Wen Zhiming and Meng Lingge behaving so intimately.

Their Northern Frontier King was cold on the outside but warm on the inside, but he seemed very distant and indifferent to women. From the capital to Nanmian Mountain, he hardly ever held hands with women, let alone spoke to them.

There were few women in the military camp, but they were not non-existent.

Several young girls accompanied the relatives of the officials. During the rest stops, local officials also presented beauties to the king, but the king of the Northern Frontier always avoided these girls.

The fact that the Northern Frontier King allowed this foreign merchant's daughter to enter and leave the central military tent with her face covered was already surprising to them. Now, he was even walking hand in hand with her into his private tent, and his gaze was gentler than they had ever seen before.

Clearly, this young lady was greatly favored by the King of the Northern Frontier.

The guards dared not stare directly at Meng Lingge, only following her out of the corner of their eyes after she had passed. Compared to the Northern Frontier King's usual solitary life, they preferred him to have a beautiful woman by his side; after all, a hero paired with a beauty has always been an exciting sight on the battlefield.

Moreover, the Northern Frontier King was agile and ruthless. In the past, his cold face instilled fear in them, but now that he was with this girl, he had put away his sharp edge, and the oppressive feeling he brought to them had lessened.

The guards were all determined to treat this girl with utmost respect and never offend her.

Meng Lingge and Wen Zhiming ignored the guards' furtive glances and shock, and went straight to their resting tent, where they sent someone to bring them dinner.

After instructing the guards not to disturb him unless necessary, Wen Zhiming used a coded signal to order the guards to leave, then drew the tent curtain and approached Meng Lingge.

Dinner consisted of two bowls of thin porridge and half a roasted rabbit.

Meat was scarce in the military camp. This rabbit was one he had hunted in the mountains a few days ago. Thinking that his wife was coming, he asked the cook to process it and air-dry it for preservation. Fortunately, the weather was cool and the rabbit meat had not yet spoiled.

After discovering Meng Lingge and her entourage's carriage, he ordered the cook to cut the rabbit meat in half, giving one half to the guests brought by Meng Lingge and keeping the other half for his wife.

He was used to simple meals in the military camp, and he couldn't let his wife eat porridge and pickles with him every day.

Now that my wife is pregnant, she needs even more nutrition. It seems I should go to the mountains when I have time. If I can hunt a deer, it will last for several days.

Or order your guards to buy some meat from somewhere else.

He could share joys and sorrows with his soldiers, but he would never wrong his wife and children.

As Wen Zhiming watched Meng Lingge eat, he thought about how to improve his wife's meals.

The roasted rabbit meat was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with a fresh and tempting aroma, making it a rare and delicious flavor.

Meng Lingge was indeed a little hungry. She ate a few pieces of rabbit meat and drank a few sips of porridge before realizing that the person next to her had not yet touched their chopsticks and was looking at her with complicated eyes.

Recalling the man's earlier initiative and the meaningful smile he gave when he drew the tent curtains, Meng Lingge's face grew increasingly red. She couldn't help but say, "Eat something too. I'm not going anywhere. Why are you staring at me like that?"

Wen Zhiming then looked away, tore the meat off the roasted rabbit into small pieces, put them into Meng Lingge's bowl, and took the remaining rabbit head and skeleton in his hand.

"My wife is so beautiful that it makes my appetite grow."

"You're so glib." Meng Lingge felt a sweet warmth in her heart, but was too embarrassed to continue the topic. She picked up a piece of rabbit meat from her bowl and brought it to Wen Zhiming's lips. "Eat more, you're too thin now."

Wen Zhiming's eyes were fixed on Meng Lingge, and he opened his mouth to accept the food his wife offered.

At first, the two simply fed each other a bite, but as they ate more or less, Wen Zhiming's hands and lips seemed to become uncontrollable, and the atmosphere inexplicably became ambiguous and romantic. The meal gradually became a little inappropriate.

As Meng Lingge lowered her head to drink her porridge, Wen Zhiming stole a kiss from her when she wasn't paying attention. Meng Lingge put down her bowl and said helplessly.

"Are you going to let me eat or not?"

"My wife eats my wife's food, and I'll kiss mine." Wen Zhiming wiped Meng Lingge's mouth, and after wiping, he touched her cheek with lingering affection.

He didn't want to disturb Meng Lingge's meal, but after not seeing her for two months, he missed his wife terribly and was already trying his best to control himself.

Meng Lingge couldn't do anything about him. Since she had almost finished eating, she stood up and said, "I'm done eating. Is there any water in this military camp? I'd like to take a bath."

"A bath?" Wen Zhiming's eyes lit up even more. He helped Meng Lingge to sit down by the bed. "Please wait a moment, my wife. I'll go prepare the water right away."

In general military camps, bathing was an extremely luxurious affair.

Fortunately, there was a stream near where they camped on Nanmian Mountain, which easily solved their water problem.

Wen Zhiming simply went out and gave the order, and soon a cook brought over the boiled water.

He ordered water to be placed outside the tent, and he carried it in himself. Two screens in the corner of the tent divided the space into a tub-sized area.

Meng Lingge watched Wen Zhiming running in and out, fussing around, even arranging bath towels and scented soap. Then, with a light laugh, she picked her up and began to undress her.

"Alright, I can do it myself. Don't stand here." Meng Lingge pushed him away and said softly.

She hadn't forgotten that this wicked man had promised to give her a massage last time, but instead he took advantage of her and refused to leave the bathtub.

She's pregnant now, she can't let this wicked man do whatever he wants.
