Chapter 251 Teasing

Chapter 251 Teasing

The rain came suddenly and violently, and the tents in the military camp were shaken violently by the wind, with some tents even leaking.

Ren Yang directed everyone to strengthen the support, and to plug the leaks with strips of cloth and bundles of straw.

Move supplies to the center and higher parts of the tent to avoid them getting wet and damp.

The tents belonging to Meng Lingge and the others were made of relatively better materials and were more waterproof.

The task of reinforcing the tents was not theirs to do. Meng Lingge thought that the soldiers who stayed behind and those who went out had been rained on and were prone to catching a cold, so she took Lushui and Qiulan to the kitchen and used the available ingredients to stew a hot and sour soup and make ginger and jujube tea.

Although these tea soups are simple to make, there are currently over 100,000 people in the military camp. To ensure that everyone can have some, in addition to Meng Lingge and Lvshui Qiulan, the kitchen staff were also busy. They all set up the large pots that are usually used for cooking rice and stewing soup.

Thinking that the supplies sent by the Blue Feather Kingdom today included more than 30,000 horses, plus the more than 10,000 horses already in the military camp, Meng Lingge found a small amount of perilla leaves and dried tangerine peel in the military camp's supply depot. She used them all to boil water to help the horses keep warm.

Once I get busy, I can't stop at all, and I don't have time to worry anymore.

When Wen Zhiming led his troops back in triumph, he saw wisps of smoke rising from the military camp in the distance. He couldn't help but feel suspicious. The vanguard had reported to him before he returned to the camp, but it wasn't mealtime yet. Why were they already cooking?

Upon seeing this, Cao Ran couldn't help but ask, "Could it be that the strategist, knowing of our great victory, has prepared some delicious food for us?"

Cao Ran was the oldest among the officials, and privately considered Wen Zhiming's uncle. He was the only one in the entire military camp who dared to joke about Wen Zhiming and Meng Lingge.

"I will go and take a look first."

Wen Zhiming spurred his horse forward, leaving the others behind.

He was worried that Meng Lingge would get caught in the rain, given how heavy and sudden it was. She was pregnant, and even a slight cold or flu would be much more difficult for her than for others.

"The King of the Northern Frontier is in a hurry to report the good news to the strategist!" Cao Ran shouted, and the soldiers behind him joined in the commotion.

Laughter and chatter rose and fell.

In the past, no one would have dared to be so unrestrained, but today, with General Cao taking the lead and receiving a large amount of weapons from the Blue Feather Kingdom, everyone in the military camp was in a very good mood, so they all loosened up a bit.

Wen Zhiming listened to the laughter and commotion behind him, but showed no anger.

Although Meng Lingge's identity must be kept secret, his affection for her is undeniable, and he is naturally happy that his soldiers understand his feelings.

Wen Zhiming rushed towards the military camp's kitchen, his strong intuition telling him that Meng Lingge would definitely be there.

Sure enough, the first thing he saw after he dismounted was Meng Lingge, who was moving around the huge stove and directing everyone in the kitchen.

She wore no makeup, dressed in plain clothes, her hair was slightly messy, and there was a faint trace of soot on her left cheek. She looked like a young cook waiting for her husband to return home.

Wen Zhiming looked at him, and a smile appeared in his eyes and at the corners of his mouth.

Meng Lingge was captivated by that intense gaze. When she turned her head, she saw Wen Zhiming smiling as he walked towards her step by step.

The air was filled with the aroma of hot and sour soup and various herbs, both fragrant and spicy.

Wen Zhiming stepped forward and pulled Meng Lingge into his arms, gently wiping the ash off her left cheek. "You look like a little kitten. What have you been up to?"

Meng Lingge smiled, her bright eyes looking at Wen Zhiming.

"I have prepared hot and sour soup and ginger and jujube tea for the soldiers, and perilla leaf and tangerine peel water for the warhorses. I have asked the doctor, and these are all things that dispel cold and dampness."

Wen Zhiming placed his hand on Meng Lingge's waist. "You can just tell the kitchen staff to do these things. You don't need to do them yourself. You must be tired after working for so long."

Meng Lingge said, "I'm not tired. I was just a little worried about you, but now that I see you're back safely, I'm relieved. Your clothes are soaked, have a bowl of ginger and jujube tea first. I'll get you some."

After she finished speaking, she took a spoon and a bowl, filled a large bowl with ginger and jujube tea for Wen Zhiming, and handed it to him.

The tea is piping hot with a strong ginger flavor, making it an excellent remedy for dispelling cold.

Wen Zhiming sipped the tea slowly, his gaze still lingering on Meng Lingge. The tea warmed him from his mouth to his stomach, and his love spread from his eyes to his heart.

"No wonder the King of the Northern Frontier ran so fast. It turns out the strategist gave him special treatment. I wonder if we can benefit from it?"

One look at the large pots set up in the kitchen and you know that everyone in the military camp has a share.

Cao Ran asked the question knowing the answer already, and he did so in a loud voice.

All the soldiers who had rushed over turned their attention to the two of them. Laughing, they shouted, "We want some too! Let us share in the glory!"

Meng Lingge blushed slightly and quickly said, "Everyone has some. Not only everyone has some, but even the warhorses have prepared perilla leaf and tangerine peel water. Everyone line up and come one by one."

Upon hearing this, the soldiers cheered in unison and dismounted to form a line.

Wen Zhiming quickly finished the bowl of ginger and jujube tea, pulled Meng Lingge to his side, and whispered, "Leave this to them. I have something to tell you."

Meng Lingge waited in vain for Chen Luo and Chen Ling to return. She wanted to ask Wen Zhiming about it, but the soldiers had already formed a long line. It would be too abrupt to leave with Wen Zhiming in front of so many people.

Cao Ran couldn't help but laugh when he saw this. He squeezed next to Wen Zhiming and said loudly, "Those who have already drunk their fill, please don't block our line. Make way, make way."

He quickly pushed Wen Zhiming aside, and Wen Zhiming was holding onto Meng Lingge, so both of them were pushed aside by him.

Seeing this, Qiu Lan and Lu Shui quickly came over: "Leave this place to us. Miss has gotten wet in the rain. Go back and dry yourself off and change into clean clothes."

The three men's unexpected assistance led the soldiers to guess that the Northern Frontier King and Meng Lingge were in a hurry to leave. They all lowered their heads and chuckled mischievously. How long had it been since they parted? The two of them couldn't wait to whisper to each other.

The King of the Northern Frontier was a hero and a tough guy on the battlefield, and he treated his soldiers with utmost impartiality. However, he was incredibly affectionate towards this newly appointed strategist.

Meng Lingge's face was burning hot, and to avoid embarrassment, she practically ran away, pulling Wen Zhiming along with her.

The roads were slippery from the rain. Wen Zhiming watched as Meng Lingge pulled him along as they ran. Worried that Meng Lingge might slip, he stepped forward slightly to check on her, then scooped her up in his arms and carried her forward.

Most of the soldiers went to queue for soup, and they didn't encounter many guards along the way. Meng Lingge boldly hooked her arm around Wen Zhiming's neck, looked up and whispered, "Was everything alright today?"

Wen Zhiming nodded and said, "As we expected, we encountered an ambush when we were almost at the trading place. All ten puppets were hit by multiple arrows. Fortunately, we were prepared and quickly surrounded the ambushing enemy from both sides. Except for a few survivors, the rest were all annihilated."
