Li Susu stood in front of the dressing mirror, carefully examining the red marks on her face.
Shen Ronghua used a lot of force; judging from the strength, she hated her to the extreme.
Li Susu chuckled self-deprecatingly, took out her first-aid kit, and applied some ointment to reduce the swelling.
She didn't want others to notice anything unusual about her.
But as I was applying the ointment, tears involuntarily streamed down my face.
She couldn't tell whether she wanted to cry because she felt wronged or because of Shen Ronghua's words.
"Fu Xingzhou, I shouldn't have gotten entangled with you in the first place!"
Li Susu muttered a few words under her breath, cursing Fu Xingzhou's ancestors for eighteen generations, before wiping away her tears and going to change her clothes.
It's quiet and deserted here, but it's bustling and lively next door.
As soon as Bai Weiwei entered the room, she immediately pressed herself against him.
"Xingzhou, I'm sorry for making things difficult for you tonight."
Shen Ronghua glared at her angrily, "Weiwei, you have nothing to apologize for. It's all that bitch Li Susu's fault!"
"Fu Xingzhou, have you lost your mind? How could you fall for a woman like that?"
A half-empty wine bottle sat on the living room table. Fu Xingzhou had started drinking alone after returning home because of Li Susu's words, "I don't like it."
I was having a headache from drinking when these two women came to make things worse.
"Mom, what nonsense are you talking about?"
"I'm talking nonsense? Don't you know what you did tonight?"
"What's so great about that Li Susu? How could you embarrass Weiwei in front of so many people? She's your rightful fiancée!"
Shen Ronghua's accusations made Fu Xingzhou increasingly irritable.
"Mom, I've already said it, I've called off this marriage."
"Don't mention it again. Also, please don't interfere in Li Susu's affairs; that's my private matter."
Shen Ronghua became even angrier when he saw his son directly contradict him without even blinking.
"Private matters? Your marriage is a major event for the Fu family!"
"And that family heirloom jade pendant, Li Susu just said she doesn't care about it at all!"
"She acts so high and mighty, yet she lives next door to you. Can't you see through her intentions?"
Fu Xingzhou's drunkenness had mostly worn off, and his eyes grew even colder.
"The jade pendant has been returned?"
Bai Weiwei quickly chimed in, adding fuel to the fire.
"Xingzhou, you've been so good to her and even helped her out of a difficult situation, but she doesn't appreciate it."
"She just said it herself, that she didn't want it, and she even talked back to her aunt a few times. She looked really fierce."
Shen Ronghua snorted coldly, "A divorced woman has the nerve to refuse the Fu family? I think she's just sour grapes!"
"Enough! Give me the jade pendant."
Fu Xingzhou, no longer wanting to listen to their back-and-forth conversation, reached out his hand, wanting the jade pendant back.
Bai Weiwei tightened her grip on her bag and looked at Shen Ronghua for help.
If she hands it over this time, we might never see her again.
How could Fu Xingzhou possibly give it to her again? He'd love to get rid of her.
"Xingzhou, the family heirloom jade pendant was originally meant to be passed down to the future mistress of the Fu family. What's wrong with giving it to Weiwei now?"
"You're going back? Do you intend to give it to Li Susu?"
Fu Xingzhou ignored his mother's words and looked at Bai Weiwei with a gloomy expression, emphasizing it again.
"Give me the jade pendant; it's not something you should take."
"You can't possibly be the future mistress of the Fu family."
