Bai Weiwei's eyes flickered as she guiltily avoided her father's sharp gaze.
She smiled casually, her tone tinged with sarcasm.
"Dad, what are you saying? How could I do such a thing?"
Bai Weiwei picked up her wine glass and took another sip to hide her inner turmoil.
"Maybe it's just that God has eyes and doesn't like her."
She slammed the wine glass down on the table and turned to walk towards the stairs.
"I'm tired, I'm going back to my room to rest."
Bai Mian watched his daughter's retreating figure, his brows furrowing even more. He had a feeling that things weren't so simple.
But at this moment, he had no evidence and could say anything more.
Bai Weiwei returned to her room and locked the door.
She leaned against the door, slowly slid down, and sat on the ground, her heart pounding as if it were about to burst out of her chest.
She hugged herself tightly with both hands, her body trembling slightly.
Once this storm passes, everything will be fine!
"Damn it!" Bai Weiwei gritted her teeth and cursed under her breath.
Just then, a rapid cell phone ring broke the silence of the room.
Bai Weiwei suddenly looked up at the flashing phone screen.
An unfamiliar number.
She hesitated for a moment, but still answered the phone.
"Hello?"
"Miss Bai, it's me." A rough male voice came from the other end of the phone.
Bai Weiwei immediately recognized the other person's voice.
It was that truck driver!
She gripped her phone tightly, forcing herself to calm down.
"What's up?"
"When are you going to pay the final payment?" the driver asked impatiently.
Bai Weiwei took a deep breath. "Didn't we agree that we'd give it to you after everything was done?"
"The matter is settled, but now there are police everywhere, and I can't move an inch!" the driver said anxiously. "The risk has increased, and the final payment will also increase!"
"What do you mean?" A sense of foreboding rose in Bai Weiwei's heart.
"Ten times! I want ten times the price! Otherwise..." The driver's voice carried a hint of threat.
Bai Weiwei's expression changed drastically. "Ten times? Are you crazy! Where would I get that much money!"
"I don't have that much money right now. You should go abroad to avoid trouble first, and I'll give it to you once I've raised the money."
"Go abroad? Do you think I'm stupid? If I go abroad, you won't have to pay me anymore!" the driver sneered. "Let me tell you, Bai Weiwei, don't try to fool me! By this time tomorrow, I want to see the money! Otherwise, I'll ruin your reputation!"
After the driver finished speaking, he hung up the phone immediately.
Bai Weiwei stood frozen in place, holding her phone, and pounded her fist on the mattress.
She was actually threatened by a lowly, lowly person!
Li Susu's eyelids trembled, and her consciousness gradually returned from the chaos.
She felt as if her whole body was falling apart, especially her lower abdomen, where waves of pain were unbearable.
Through my blurred vision, I saw an anxious face.
"Su Su, you're awake!" Li Yulin's voice was filled with deep concern.
Li Susu blinked hard, trying to see everything clearly.
The ward was all white, and the pungent smell of disinfectant made her feel uncomfortable.
She moved her lips, but found her throat was so dry that she couldn't make a sound.
Upon seeing this, Li Yulin immediately picked up the water glass from the bedside table, carefully helped her up, and brought the straw to her lips.
The warm water slid down her throat, moistening her parched mouth and making her feel a little better.
“Brother…” Li Susu finally managed to utter a faint sound, thick with a nasal tone.
