Li Yulin sat in the car, his hands clasped together, his knuckles white.
He took a deep breath and looked at Li Chenglin beside him.
"Big brother, are you really confident that you can still perform the surgery on my little sister after we recognize each other?"
Li Chenglin remained silent for a moment, his eyes filled with complex emotions.
He spoke slowly, his voice low but carrying an undeniable firmness.
"If that's really the case, I'd be even more determined to heal my little sister myself."
He paused, a flicker of pain crossing his eyes.
"I studied medicine to protect my family's safety."
Li Chenglin clenched his fists unconsciously, his fingertips digging deep into his palms.
"My mother died on the operating table because of the high risks of the surgery..."
He closed his eyes, seemingly trying his best to suppress some kind of emotion.
Looking at his elder brother's restrained appearance, Li Yulin felt a pang of sorrow in his heart.
He reached out and patted Li Chenglin on the shoulder, his tone gentle yet comforting.
"Brother, it's all in the past now."
Li Yulin took a deep breath, his eyes resolute.
"We'll face this together as a family, and everything will pass."
Li Yulin's phone suddenly vibrated, breaking the heavy atmosphere in the carriage.
He glanced at the caller ID and answered the phone.
"Hello?"
A frantic voice came from the other end of the phone: "Mr. Li, something terrible has happened! Miss Chen is in trouble!"
Li Yulin's heart sank suddenly, and his face turned deathly pale.
"What happened to Su Su? Where is she?" His voice trembled slightly with nervousness.
"At the city's central hospital, it seems...it seems...it was a car accident!"
"Car accident?!" Li Yulin gripped his phone tightly, his knuckles turning white.
He turned to look at Li Chenglin, his eyes filled with terror.
"Big brother, Su Su was in a car accident, she's at the city's central hospital!"
Li Chenglin's expression also changed drastically. He immediately urged the driver, "Quick! To the city's central hospital!"
The black sedan sped towards the city center hospital like an arrow released from a bow.
Throughout the journey, Li Yulin's heart was in his throat. He kept urging the driver to drive faster, his mind filled with Li Susu's pale face.
Li Chenglin also pursed his lips, his eyes filled with worry and self-blame.
Upon arriving at the hospital, the two practically rushed into the emergency room.
"Su Su! Where is Su Su?" Li Yulin asked the nurse anxiously.
The nurse pointed to the ward next to the emergency room: "Miss Li is over there, but..."
The nurse hesitated, her eyes flickering.
Li Yulin and Li Chenglin exchanged a glance, a sense of foreboding rising in their hearts.
They hurried to the ward door, only to see Li Susu sitting by the bedside, looking worriedly at Chen Ke, who was lying unconscious on the bed.
The two brothers were stunned.
"Susu, are you alright?" Li Yulin quickly walked to Li Susu's side, looked her up and down, and only breathed a sigh of relief after confirming that she was not injured.
“I’m fine.” Li Susu shook her head, her tone heavy. “It’s Chen Ke, he… he was in a car accident.”
"Car accident?" Li Chenglin repeated the word, his brows furrowed. "What happened?"
Li Susu briefly recounted what had happened, her tone tinged with doubt and unease.
"I have a feeling this isn't an accident."
Li Yulin and Li Chenglin exchanged a glance, both feeling that something was amiss.
Chen Ke was perfectly fine when we met before, so how could he suddenly be in a car accident?
"Susu, I have something very important to discuss with you privately." Li Yulin looked at Li Susu, his tone serious.
Li Susu shook her head and refused, saying, "Chen Ke saved my life. He's so badly injured now, I have to stay with him."
Li Chenglin tugged at Li Yulin's sleeve and gave him a wink.
He knew now was not the time to talk, and Su Su's attitude was also very firm.
"Okay, then you take care of Chen Ke first, we'll contact you later." Li Chenglin patted Li Susu's shoulder, his tone gentle.
The two brothers turned and left the ward.
