The dramatic business battle finally subsided. Both the Li and Fu families suffered some losses, but not significant ones. Fu Xingzhou focused on recuperating, while Li Susu temporarily took over the Fu Group.
In just half a month, Li Susu managed the Fu family business with remarkable efficiency, and her abilities were recognized by the Fu family. However, because Fu Xingzhou was injured because of her, the Fu family felt that she was a "femme fatale" who would bring misfortune upon them and was not suitable to marry her.
The old Fu family mansion was filled with a faint scent of sandalwood, but it couldn't mask the tense atmosphere in the air. Fu Xingzhou's mother, Shen Ronghua, along with several relatives, sat around Fu Xingzhou's sickbed, ostensibly to visit him, but in reality, their meeting was a battleground of wits.
"Xingzhou, you're being foolish. How can you entrust such a large family business like the Fu family to an outsider?" A woman wearing a mink coat and adorned with jewels was the first to speak, her tone full of worry but actually laced with barbs.
“Yes, Xingzhou, although Li Susu is quite capable, she is still a member of the Li family. What if…” another relative chimed in, hesitating to speak, his eyes darting around as if he were hiding some unspeakable secret.
Fu Xingzhou's face was pale, but his eyes were firm: "Aunties, everyone has witnessed Su Su's abilities, and I trust her."
"Trustworthy? A woman is someone you marry to carry on the family line and manage the household. A strong woman like Li Susu, be careful, or the Fu family might be swallowed up by the Li family!" The woman in the mink coat's sharp voice was like a sword, piercing Fu Xingzhou's heart.
Fu Xingzhou frowned deeply, his tone tinged with impatience: "My private matters are none of your concern."
The relatives exchanged awkward glances, then fell silent and took their leave. Shen Ronghua, however, stayed behind, walked to Fu Xingzhou's bedside, and said earnestly, "Xingzhou, I'm doing this for your own good. Look at these photos; they're all girls from respectable families, well-educated and reasonable. Aren't they all better than Li Susu?"
Shen Ronghua took out a stack of photos, featuring various beautiful women, all smiling charmingly. Fu Xingzhou, however, didn't even glance at them, pointing instead to his injuries and asking, "Mom, do you remember why I got hurt?"
Shen Ronghua snorted coldly: "Isn't it all because of Li Susu!"
“I would give up my life for her. Now that the world is at peace, do you think I would change my mind?” Fu Xingzhou’s voice was not loud, but it was firm and unwavering.
Shen Ronghua wanted to say something more, but Fu Xingzhou closed his eyes and waved his hand, saying, "Mom, don't worry about it."
Shen Ronghua sighed helplessly and turned to leave. As he reached the door, he saw Li Susu standing outside, carrying a thermos.
Shen Ronghua's eyes narrowed, realizing that Li Susu must have overheard their conversation. However, she didn't hide it and said directly, "Miss Li, your fate is incompatible with Xingzhou's, so it's really not suitable for you."
Having gone through so much, Li Susu was no longer the fragile woman she once was. Her eyes were firm, and she showed no sign of backing down: "Aunt Chen, after everything we've been through, there's no way I can let go. If you don't like me, we can live separately after the marriage, and I will never get in your way."
Li Susu's words were resounding, leaving Shen Ronghua speechless for a moment. She opened her mouth, but found herself unable to find a suitable rebuttal. After a long while, she finally found her voice and asked with a hint of disbelief, "You...you really intend to marry into the Fu family?"
Li Susu smiled, a confident gleam in her eyes: "Why not? I love him, and he loves me. Marriage is a matter between two people; it has nothing to do with others." She paused, then added, "Aunt Chen, I'd like to speak with you alone, is that alright?"
Shen Ronghua was puzzled, but looking into Li Susu's open eyes, he nodded as if possessed. There was a coffee shop nearby, and the two sat facing each other.
"Aunt Shen, do you think I'm not good enough for Xingzhou? Is it because of Bai Weiwei?" Li Susu got straight to the point.
