Fu Xingzhou stopped abruptly. He looked at the scalpel pressed against Li Susu's neck, his heart feeling as if it were being gripped tightly by an invisible hand, almost suffocating him.
"Chen Ke, don't do anything rash! You'll kill Su Su if you do this!" Fine beads of sweat appeared on Fu Xingzhou's forehead. He dared not make any rash moves, for fear of provoking Chen Ke and causing her to do something drastic.
"I'm acting recklessly? Fu Xingzhou, you forced me to do this! You stole my Susu!" Chen Ke's emotions grew increasingly agitated, and the scalpel in her hand trembled slightly. "Now, I'm going to make you pay the price!"
The atmosphere in the ward was extremely tense, like a taut string that could snap at any moment.
Just then, one of Fu Xingzhou's bodyguards seized the opportunity, rushed forward, and delivered a karate chop to the back of Chen Ke's neck. Chen Ke let out a muffled groan and collapsed limply to the ground.
Fu Xingzhou quickly stepped forward, took Li Susu from Chen Ke's arms, and held her tightly in his embrace.
He looked down at Li Susu, who was pale in his arms, and felt a mix of fear and relief.
Thankfully, she's alright.
In a daze, Li Susu slowly opened her eyes. The first thing she saw was Fu Xingzhou's anxious face. She blinked blankly, her consciousness gradually returning.
"Where...where am I?" Li Susu's voice was weak and hoarse, with a hint of confusion.
"Su Su, you're awake!" Fu Xingzhou was overjoyed, holding her hand tightly as if he were holding the whole world. "You're alright, you're safe." He gently placed her back on the hospital bed, his movements as tender as if he were handling a fragile treasure.
Li Susu tried hard to recall what happened before she lost consciousness, but all she remembered was a chaotic scene and Chen Ke's distorted face. Fear surged through her again, and she instinctively grabbed Fu Xingzhou's hand, her fingertips trembling slightly.
"What happened? Where is Chen Ke?"
"Don't be afraid, it's all over now." Fu Xingzhou patted her hand reassuringly. "Chen Ke has been brought under control, you're safe now." He called the on-duty doctor to carefully examine Li Susu's condition.
After examining him, the doctor's tone was much more relaxed: "President Li is out of danger and in good condition. He just needs to rest for a few days."
Hearing the doctor's words, Fu Xingzhou finally felt relieved. He dared not leave her side for even a moment, staying by her side without leaving her side.
Li Susu's spirits improved somewhat, but when she thought of the crisis facing CN Group in Z country, a trace of worry appeared between her brows.
"How's things going in Z country... CN?"
"Don't worry, Yulin is over, everything is under control." Fu Xingzhou looked at her with heartache. "The most important thing for you now is to rest well, don't worry about anything else."
"But……"
"No buts." Fu Xingzhou interrupted her, his tone gentle yet firm. "Su Su, take care of yourself, okay?"
His deep gaze was fixed on her eyes, as if trying to see into the depths of her soul.
“Do you remember what happened?” he asked softly.
Li Susu closed her eyes and tried hard to recall, but found that her memories were like fragments, scattered and blurry.
"I...I don't remember very clearly, it seems...some scenes...little by little..."
"It's okay, take your time, don't rush." Fu Xingzhou held her hand, his fingertips gently stroking the back of her hand, giving her silent comfort. "This time, I will stay with you and never let you get hurt again."
However, Li Susu's peace was merely the calm before the storm.
Chen Ke was being closely watched by Fu Xingzhou's men, making it impossible for her to move an inch, not even getting close to the hospital gate. She dialed Li Susu's number again and again, but no one answered; only a cold, mechanical female voice responded to her increasingly desperate heart.
"Damn it!" Chen Ke slammed her phone on the steering wheel, the sharp horn piercing the silent street. She was unwilling to accept it. She had done so much for Li Susu, even risking a falling out with Fu Xingzhou, and in the end, she didn't even get a thank you!
"Since you're so heartless, then don't blame me for being impolite!" A ruthless glint flashed in Chen Ke's eyes as she started the car and sped away. She wanted revenge, she wanted Li Susu and Fu Xingzhou to pay the price!
Country Z, CN Group headquarters.
The overcast sky seemed to foreshadow the fate of the CN Group. Ever since Chen Ke began openly suppressing the CN Group, all cooperative projects have come to an abrupt halt, the cash flow has dried up, and the group is on the verge of collapse.
Li Yulin was at his wits' end. He tried everything, but nothing worked. He knew it was all Chen Ke's revenge.
"Chen Ke, what exactly do you want?!" Li Yulin dialed Chen Ke's number, his tone filled with suppressed anger.
"What do I want?" Chen Ke sneered on the other end of the phone. "I saved Li Susu's life, but she chose someone else. What do you think I want?"
"Are you crazy! There's absolutely nothing between you and Su Su!" Li Yulin thought Chen Ke was completely unreasonable.
