Chapter 252 I loved you, but it’s not enough!
Marquis Anyang's words shocked Gu Junze. He stared at the man in front of him, whom he once regarded as his enemy, trying to catch any trace of falsehood in his eyes.
"I didn't poison you because you were born weak, so how could I possibly poison Anyang?" Marquis Anyang shook his head, a trace of pain flashing in his eyes.
"I was also looking forward to your birth. When you moved for the first time in my belly, Anyang was very surprised and took my hand to touch you. Your legs were kicking so vigorously..."
Marquis Anyang's voice became soft, as if he was immersed in distant memories.
His fingers tapped the wine glass lightly, his eyes full of tenderness as he recalled the most beautiful memories in his heart.
"I was the one who chose your name. Your surname is Gu, and your name is Junze. A gentleman is like a virtuous person, and his grace covers all things."
Gu Junze listened quietly, with complicated emotions surging in his heart.
He never thought that his name was given by the man in front of him.
At that moment, he believed that he truly loved him like a father.
All along, Gu Junze has been guessing about the truth of that year.
He always believed that Marquis Anyang could not accommodate him when he was still in his mother's womb, and he survived because of his good fortune.
Marquis Anyang drank another glass of wine. "At that time, Anyang really wanted to live with me. Unfortunately, that man came and her mind changed. She wanted to divorce me."
Marquis Anyang paused slightly, as if he didn't want to talk about it anymore, and his eyes turned bloodshot.
"Who is that person?" Gu Junze asked, although he had already guessed it.
Marquis Anyang raised his head and looked directly at Gu Junze, "Duan Qingye."
"Your mother was on the battlefield, and she and Duan Qingye were in love with each other, but this man only cared about his country and his family, and wanted to expand the territory of Zheng and merge with the Eastern Jin."
"Your mother was completely disappointed in him. After returning to Beijing, she found out she was pregnant with you. She couldn't bear to have an abortion, so she married me."
Marquis Anyang's voice was bitter, "I thought time could change everything, but I was wrong."
Gu Junze clenched his fists, his nails digging deep into his palms. That man had betrayed his mother!
Marquis Anyang put down his wine glass, his eyes sharp. "Do you think the Emperor would tolerate his sister having an affair with a general from an enemy country? He certainly wouldn't tolerate her giving birth to a child who is Duan Qingye's bloodline?"
"So... it's the emperor?" Gu Junze said with certainty.
Marquis Anyang nodded and said, "The emperor sent the imperial physician to take Anyang's pulse, saying it was to regulate his body, but in fact he was giving him medicine. By the time I found out, it was too late."
Gu Junze chuckled. It turned out that his fate had been determined from the moment he was born.
"What about Gu Chengyan? Why did he take Chu Ruohan away?" Gu Junze forced himself to calm down and return to the original question.
Marquis Anyang sighed, as if he wanted to tell everything about the past in one breath.
"Looking at your face, which bears a striking resemblance to Duan Qingye's, and seeing you suffering in your wheelchair, I felt a surge of satisfaction."
"The Emperor knew that I poisoned you secretly. He wanted you dead, so he turned a blind eye."
Marquis Anyang's voice was low and painful. "I really loved her so much that I asked the Emperor to give her name when he conferred the title of Marquis after her death..."
The story of the previous generation was almost over. Gu Junze knew that Marquis Anyang would not tell him where Gu Chengyan was.
A cold light flashed in his eyes, "If Han'er is hurt in the slightest, I will make him pay with blood."
Marquis Anyang looked at Gu Junze and suddenly laughed, "You really are like Anyang. Even I am afraid of your ruthlessness."
Gu Junze turned around and was about to leave, but was stopped by Marquis Anyang.
"Wait," Marquis Anyang stopped him, "In the study of the Marquis's mansion, there's something Anyang left for you. She said that if one day you know the truth, she'll give it to you."
"Did she really love you?" Gu Junze suddenly asked.
Anyang Hou was silent for a moment, "I loved you, but it was not enough."
Gu Junze turned and left. The tear of Marquis Anyang finally fell, and a trace of blood flowed from the corner of his mouth.
This wine is poisonous!
He didn't want his body to be torn apart; it would be so ugly! Anyang had said that his eyebrows and eyes were very delicate.
He thought, if he was completely unrecognizable when he got there, how would Anyang recognize him?
Under the candlelight, he seemed to see the woman with a beautiful smile in his memory.
The corners of his mouth rose slightly, "Anyang, wait for me, soon... we will be able to meet..."
As the last breath dissipated, his hands fell limply, and the candlelight swayed violently a few times in the howling wind before finally going out.
Darkness swallowed the entire room, leaving only endless silence and sadness.
When Gu Junze left the Heavenly Prison, he paused for a moment.
He turned and looked at another cell, where Gu Cheng'an was imprisoned.
Gu Cheng'an's treatment was completely different from that of Marquis Anyang.
Inside the square cell, there was only a pile of hay and a broken wooden barrel used for toilet, and the air was filled with a foul smell.
Gu Cheng'an curled up in the corner, his clothes were dirty.
Hearing footsteps, Gu Cheng'an raised his head and saw Gu Junze standing outside the prison door. A hint of surprise flashed in his eyes, followed by an unconcealable joy.
“Big Brother!”
Gu Cheng'an's voice was hoarse due to thirst. He stood up with difficulty and staggered to the prison door.
The cell door opened, and Gu Chengan looked up with confusion in his eyes, "Brother!"
He didn't know Gu Junze's background. He only knew that he was not implicated because of his relationship with the royal family.
"Come with me." Gu Junze said.
"Brother, jailbreaking is a capital crime. We, the Gu family, are lucky to have you here. You must not make any mistakes." Gu Cheng'an said anxiously, his voice full of worry.
Gu Junze gave him a cold look and asked, "Do you know where Gu Chengyan is?"
Gu Chengan was stunned, "Wasn't Chengyan arrested?"
"He took Han'er away." Gu Junze's voice was low and dangerous, with a cold light flashing in his eyes.
Gu Chengan frowned, his eyes full of confusion, "What?"
"So, follow me." Gu Junze said no more and turned to leave.
Gu Chengan hesitated for a moment, but finally followed, "Brother, Chengyan and sister-in-law?"
Gu Cheng'an hesitated to speak, obviously he had misunderstood.
"Let's get out of here first." Gu Junze kept walking, his voice terrifyingly calm.
The two men walked quickly along the dim corridor, taking Gu Cheng'an around the unconscious guard.
"Brother, if I leave, how will you explain to the emperor?" Gu Cheng'an asked in a low voice.
Gu Junze didn't answer, but just kept moving forward.
His thoughts were all on Chu Ruohan, and every minute or second of delay could put her in greater danger.
Finally, they arrived at a small, hidden door. Gu Junze gently pushed it open, and outside was a pitch-black night.
"Let's go." Gu Junze whispered.
The two quickly passed through the small door and came to a secluded place in the alley.
A carriage had already been waiting there. Ying Qing was standing beside the carriage. When she saw Gu Junze coming out, she immediately went to greet him.
"Prince." Ying Qing said respectfully, "Second Young Master."
Gu Junze nodded.
The three of them got on the carriage, which slowly drove away from the sky prison and blended into the night.
