Chapter 295: Too Scared to Reveal

Chapter 295: Too Scared to Reveal

Qin Fang continued, "What's even more bizarre is that he's clearly a servant of the Wei family, yet he's constantly provoking Wei Qiming, as if he's just waiting for him to cause trouble in the capital."

Doctor Qian asked doubtfully, "Young Madam, what are you thinking about?"

"I think constantly stirring up trouble runs counter to the interests of the Wei family." Chu Ruohan analyzed, "It seems like someone arranged it."

"Arranged by someone?" Qin Fang was a little confused. "Who could be the driving force behind this?"

A hint of coldness flashed in Chu Ruohan's eyes: "Jing Guifei, or Prince Su."

"They might be trying to use Wei Qiming to escalate this incident."

Doctor Qian frowned. "If that's the case, Wei Qiming might not even know it, but he's become a pawn on someone else's chessboard."

"Qin Fang, send someone to keep an eye on Wei Qiming." Chu Ruohan ordered, "I want to know his every move."

"Yes, young madam." Qin Fang accepted the order.

"Also," Chu Ruohan added, "Don't relax on Biyu's side either. Find a way to get close to her."

The next morning, in an alley in the south of the city, a woman in plain clothes carrying a basket knocked on the gate of an ordinary courtyard.

"Who?" A vigilant female voice came from inside the door, accompanied by the barking of two big dogs.

"Sister-in-law, I'm a new neighbor, and I specially brought you some homemade snacks to try." Chu Ruohan changed her tone and sounded like a simple woman.

There was silence for a moment, and then a cold response came: "No need, just leave it at the door."

Chu Ruohan put the basket in front of the door, turned around and left, but did not go far. Instead, she hid at the corner and observed.

Soon, the door opened slightly, and a thin hand reached out and picked up the basket with lightning speed.

Chu Ruohan took the opportunity to catch a glimpse of a thin woman in a gray dress in the house. Although she was middle-aged, she still had the beauty of her youth.

For several days in a row, Chu Ruohan knocked on the door with different snacks, but was never able to enter the courtyard.

Finally, on the fifth day, when Chu Ruohan once again delivered the carefully prepared pastries, the courtyard door opened a crack, revealing a vigilant face.

"What exactly do you want to do?" Biyu asked coldly.

Chu Ruohan took off her hat, revealing her true face, and said softly, "I just want to talk to you about the baby you brought back from outside the palace more than 20 years ago."

Biyu's face turned pale instantly, her lips trembled, and her eyes were full of fear.

Just as she was about to close the door, Chu Ruohan had already gently leaned against the door frame.

"I'm not here to hurt you." Chu Ruohan said sincerely, "I just want to know the truth and save your life."

"I don't know what you're talking about." Although Biyu's tone was firm, there was a hint of panic in her eyes.

Before the door closes.

Chu Ruohan said: "This matter has spread outside. Can you still save your life? Even if you are not afraid of death, what about your daughter?"

Chu Ruohan could feel the person behind the door stiffen, and after a while, there were footsteps walking away.

Qin Fang walked out from the darkness and asked in a low voice, "Young Madam, what should we do now?"

A smile appeared on the corner of Chu Ruohan's lips. "Proceed as planned."

This woman must know many secrets, but she was too scared to reveal a single one.

The next morning, panicked cries were heard from the Jade Courtyard.

"Mom! Mom! Dahuang and Xiaohei are both dead!" A young girl's voice was filled with horror.

Biyu rushed out of the house and saw two big dogs that were ferocious in the past lying in the yard, foaming at the mouth and dead.

Her face suddenly changed, and she squatted down tremblingly, reached out and touched the dog's fur. When she touched the cold corpse, she couldn't help but shudder.

"Mom, what's wrong with them?" Fang Youran asked in horror.

Jade stood up suddenly and looked around, her eyes full of fear: "Someone wants to kill us! Quick, pack up, we're leaving tonight!"

Fang Youran was so frightened that her face turned pale. "Are we going to move again? Why is it always like this?"

Biyu didn't answer, but just hurriedly packed up the things in the house.

As night fell, Biyu and her daughter packed their simple luggage and prepared to leave under the cover of darkness.

Suddenly, there was a rustling sound outside the yard.

Biyu grabbed her daughter alertly and said, "Don't make a sound!"

She carefully moved to the window and looked through the gap, only to see several dark figures circling the yard, holding something in their hands.

A pungent smell wafted into the house.

"Oil! They are pouring oil!" Biyu cried out in horror and pulled her daughter to escape to the backyard.

At this moment, flames started in the front yard and the raging fire spread rapidly.

Just as Biyu and her daughter arrived at the back door, there was a sudden knock on the door.

"Sister Biyu! Open the door quickly!" a female voice shouted anxiously.

Biyu hesitated for a moment, then pulled the bolt. Standing outside was a strange young woman.

"Follow me!" Song Ruyan grabbed Biyu and her daughter without hesitation, "We're surrounded!"

The three of them walked quickly along the alley, flames shot up into the sky behind them, and gradually thick smoke filled half the sky.

"Who are you? Why did you save us?" Biyu asked breathlessly.

"Now is not the time to talk!"

Song Ruyan didn't even look back and led the two of them through many twists and turns until they finally arrived at a secluded courtyard.

After entering the room, Biyu looked around vigilantly, only to see Chu Ruohan sitting quietly at the table, the teacup in her hand steaming.

"You!" Biyu recognized Chu Ruohan and her face turned pale instantly.

"Please sit down." Chu Ruohan gestured for them to take a seat. "I said I won't hurt you."

Fang Youran tightly grasped the corner of her mother's clothes and looked at the strangers around her with fear.

"Don't you want to say it now?" Chu Ruohan asked softly, her eyes falling on Biyu's face.

Biyu's face was pale, and her lips trembled slightly: "I don't know what you are talking about."

"If my people hadn't arrived in time tonight, you and your daughter would have probably been burned to death."

Chu Ruohan sighed, "Do you think that if you can hide for a while, you can hide forever?"

"Mom, I'm scared." Biyu's daughter sobbed softly, "Why do we always have to hide?"

Chu Ruohan looked at the poor mother and daughter and her tone softened a little.

"Are you going to let your child hide from you forever?"

Jade closed her eyes and tears rolled down from the corners of her eyes.

The room was silent, with only the faint aroma of tea lingering in the air.

When she opened her eyes again, they were full of determination: "You promise not to hurt my daughter?"

"I guarantee it with my life." Chu Ruohan said solemnly.

"You and your daughter will be fine. Once this is over, I will send you out of the capital completely."

Biyu took a deep breath and began to tell the story of that stormy night.

"That day, the Empress was in critical condition due to a difficult labor. The Emperor didn't even come, and was only busy drinking and having fun in the Xianfei Palace."
